  1. Not inspiring.
  2. We really need to go after Judge. Let Xander go.
  3. Kiki is okay on 2nd base, but at this point in his career he's not going to turn into an every day player. And the talk about Gallo is a joke. The guy strikes out so much the climate activists are looking to him to cool the earth, not play baseball.
  4. That would be a terrible outfield. I guess Henry is going to make that run after the Redskins, err, Commanders.
  5. Good players at the minor league level don't necessarily translate to good players at the major league level.
  6. I've come to the conclusion we need to fire both Bloom and Cora. The minors are crap. The team is disjointed.
  7. With 2022 in the books, the Red Sox are now 9796-9098, and will need to average 102 wins each of the next two seasons to reach 10,000 by the end of 2024, which is something they have never accomplished in the 122 years of the franchise (the best was averaging 100.5 recently in 2017 and 2018, the only time the Red Sox averaged more than 100 wins in two consecutive seasons). So it's not going to happen. 9 teams have more wins than the Red Sox (all over 10,000).
  8. Joey Meneses is looking better than Juan Soto and Josh Bell combined so far.
  9. We dropped the ball this year. The top free agents are: Looking at guys under 35: Offense 1). Aaron Judge (by far the top player in free agency and we lack power) 2). Tre Turner (the best player in free agency and we have two shortstops) 3). Nolan Arenado (the best 3rd baseman in the league, and we have a good one) 4). Anthony Rizzo (we need a first baseman) 5). Josh Bell (about the same as Hosmer) Pitching 1). Carlos Rodon 1). Aaron Nola 3). Jacob deGrom (injury prone) 4). Clayton Kershaw (not sure why we didn't show interest last year, he's still solid) 5). Luis Severino Our FA effective guys: Nathan Eovaldi (need to sign him) Michael Wacha (he was a surprise) JD Martinez (we need a DH, his power stats may be down, but he can still hit) Chris Sale (injured) Eric Hosmer (injured)
  10. With 41 games remaining in 2022 (60-61 right now), the Red Sox have amassed 9,778 wins as a club (including as the Americans). To reach the 10,000 wins mark by the end of 2024 we will have to average 100 wins a year in 2023 and 2024. I don't see it happening, but I will root for it to happen.
  11. I really enjoyed hearing Jerry's Boston accent juxtaposed with Eck's California accent and the authority the two had sharing their experience talking about being on the team and the struggles they had. Eck as a Hall of Famer commands respect with his knowledge of the game. The players in the 70's had it tougher than the players of today. I like listening to the older players. The accents also makes the games more interesting to listen to, making it more compelling. Have fun at home, Eck.
  12. Have any of you watched a Worcester game? There is not a lot there. Our minor leagues are in serious trouble. I watched a game against Buffalo recently, way overrated is how I would describe it.
  13. JBJ is a 0.228 career hitter with an OBP of 0.307. He's been a below average player forever. Why Bloom picked him up again is insane. But it's not just JBJ, Franchy Cordero is a 0.220 career hitter with an OBP of 0.288. And somehow it gets even worse with Jaylin Davis, a career 0.182 hitter, with a 0.261 OBP (why/how is he on our team?). Travis Shaw? Rob Refsnyder? Jonathan Araúz? Terrible.
  14. Hosmer is a professional hitter, though his OBP is sub-star.
  15. I've never heard this sound when Eovaldi pitches. Is it a grunt? It's weird. ESPN broadcast 8/1.
  16. Pham is 34. This is another nothing move by the bonehead CB. At least Pham has a career OBP of 0.358. We get C Reese McGuire for RP Jake Diekman.
  17. I imagine that half of the team will be (or are) on the block. The way we've played over the past week and half the writing is on the wall. The FA's (JD, Eovaldi, Wacha, etc.) will be on the move. Here's to 2024 or 2025.
  18. Even though he's 7 years older, I'd rather have Judge than Soto. I think the Yankees will come strong for Soto because of his lefty bat.
  19. Time to move on from these three guys plus JBJ and Downs.
  20. That pinky looks mangled. That will take another couple of months to heal.
  21. I'm not trading Xander. He is a good player (as a SS he's very good), but at this point he's not HOF. Next year he will be 30. Can he play 10 more years? I thinks so, but where is his peak? Are we seeing it today? Or in 3-4 years when his contract is up? Nomar Garciaparra peaked at 29. Then injuries. Our best shortstop until Xander was Rico Petrocelli (and he shifted over to 3rd at 28). JD, Eovaldi, Kiki, Vazquez, Wacha and Hill's contracts are up. JD has been solid and can continue to produce for a couple more years, but he's 35 next month. Maybe he gets a two-three year contract. I'd rather us put money into a big slugger like Judge. He's the premiere player going into FA (there is really nobody else). He'll be 31 next year.
  22. Offensively we are terrible. Of players with 10 or more at bats, only Bogaerts and Martinez have an OBP above 0.310. That's a serious problem. For us to be competitive we need to have 4 to 6 guys with OBP above 0.360 and a team OBP above 0.339 (we are at 0.280).
  23. The JBJ trade was beyond terrible. His career BA is 0.229, and his OBP is a paltry 0.310. Renfroe has similar stats but at least his OPS is 80 points higher. For Story, his career BA at Coors is 0.303, OBP was 0.369 and OPS was 0.972. Great. But away from Coors it's 0.241, 0.310, and 0.752 respectively. Not good. He was 4 for 18 (3 singles and a homer) for his limited career at Fenway before this season with 5 strikeouts. Clearly we need to have him hit at home, and against the East. I think he can adjust.
  24. He was good until he signed that contract.
  25. When does Story hit the field?
