  1. Bloom offered $9M at 360 years.
  2. The best point you made so far is the fear of Bloom promising 8 or 9 additions -- instead of 4 or 5... because we all know by now that means more "value" players instead of the most valuable players.
  3. They can't be that inept -- they have degrees in classics at reputable institutes of higher learning. Taillon just signed for the equivalent of Eovaldi's last contract, so assume Nate is gone, too -- because that was a Dombrowski deal. And might as well forget about Senga, if another team is interested (reportedly, there are several). The Red Sox have drawn their lines in the sand... which keeps spilling from the hour glass at a tortoise rate.
  4. Performing in the postseason is definitely a factor -- and players don't want to hear about sample sizes; they know. It's fair for Yankee fans to be concerned... ARod always faced added pressure in the playoffs. But true fans know batting stats aren't everything, because anyone who has actually watched entire postseasons knows that Mookie Betts always contributes, on defense and/or baserunning.
  5. But Chaim, if you ever do sign any player in demand, you have to realize you're not overpaying. The GMs doing their jobs trying to build contenders for 2023 aren't exceeding market prices -- they're just establishing and complying with new market prices.
  6. And yet, we're told, more offers are imminent. Wait, check with the first base ump... did he offer? He went --
  7. Maybe it was just an offer for Heaney's upside, while the Rangers agreed to also pay for his downside and inbetweenside. Or maybe the Red Sox offer was only for a bus ticket to Texas. Heans took offense, expecting to fly first class... which didn't make sense to Bloom, but Chris Young's analytics project a lot of highside.
  8. Heaney will reportedly provide followship and a lot of lowside.
  9. 2023 will be really strong. It's going to feature a hitter who slugged a 100-mph fastball out of Yankee Stadium when he was just 20 years old. And now he's about to enter his prime...
  10. John Henry has not changed. He's always wanted it this way. Moneyball was written 20 years ago. Here are Henry's lines from his recruiting scene in the movie version: JH: "You won the exact same number of games as the Yankees, but the Yankees paid 1.4 million dollars per win, and you paid two hundred sixty thousand. Yes, I want you to be my General Manager. Any GM that doesn't tear down their team and rebuild it using your model is going to be a dinosaur." Chaim Bloom is just playing Brad Pitt playing Billy Beane. Meanwhile, D Rex has an open checkbook down at Citizens Bank Jurassic Park...
  11. "if he keeps getting outbid"... we'd better hope it's that, and not that a target is signing elsewhere because it's anywhere but Boston.
  12. He what? Theo just broke a chair in his hotel room.
  13. Sam just reported a teaney offer is imminent.
  14. Kahnle's coming off an injury? Purrrrr-fect -- that's exactly the type of value Red Sox fans are looking for. He's the kind of fan favorite we've come to expect, a great underdog guy to root for to stay healthy and not break down by July when we know our cheaphf baseball officer won't replace him at the deadline despite flocks of tweets of reported interest while the class president insists to the Nation we're absolutely going for it and are all in with our way better team.
  15. “I really philosophically believe that you win with star players,” said Dombrowski, who declined to discuss specifics until Turner passes his physical. “Now, you can’t win with star players alone, but you can build around star players. I’ve really always had that belief. As I’ve observed, it’s been successful for the clubs that win."
  16. Dare we attempt to translate Bloomspeak... "leadership" can only mean old, as in veteran experience... "consistency" better mean durability, because someone who's hurt every other year or month is inconsistent... ... but doesn't "upside" mean having promise and potential? Like, someone who can improve... which means maybe not so good yet... or more likely, not so expensive yet -- though not necessarily with a current address in a bin, metal receptacle, on a plantation or flea market.
  17. How do you envision the latter? Franchy is an Oriole, so at least that boosts Boston closer to Baltimore in overall team defense. Maybe Kike stays healthy and in center... though anyone is better than Duran. Yesterday, Bloom finally mentioned Story at short -- so who will he get to replace Trevor's Gold Glove at second? It's also going to be difficult to find any outfielder better than Bradley. Are the Sox willing to pay for a new catcher who is an actual better receiver than McGuire? One underrated area is a full season with Casas at first, which will help tighten up the entire infield. In his debut month it was clear Casas is a legitimate first baseman -- and not someone trying to learn the position in the big leagues. To me, he already looks as polished as any Sox sacker since Youk. But what Bloom really meant when he said he wants pitchers with upside and leadership is that they can throw accurately to every base, including home base. I heard scouts are holding PFP auditions right now in always sunny San Diego...
  18. Bloom says he's still engaged to Xander, but Chaim won't give him a ring.
  19. 1. extend Devers; 2. sign Andrus and Senga; 3. instead of Judge and his albatross contract for the next 10 years, I'd substitute Eovaldi/Haniger/Taylor Rogers for the next three...
  20. I sure hope the Rangers and Phils can reset by next year so they can celebrate it on social media with their fans, who I'm sure will be ecstatic.
  21. And part of that plan was to immediately shift focus into locking up Devers longterm, so the same Betts-Bogaerts fiasco wouldn't transpire for a third time. Fool me thrice... oh, wait -- raise ticket prices!
  22. I don't see it happening with any of the other top SS options. If you pay big bucks to anyone besides Bogaerts, it means calling him the priority was disingenuous. Otherwise, pony up and make him stay.
  23. I'm agreeing with this, too. Dombro was moving on when he noted, "Hey -- we can't sign them all."
  24. I'm not denying Schilling (or Tiant), but a couple points no one makes about McGriff: He was 7 shy of what used to be an automatic HOF benchmark (pre-steroid era) -- 500 home runs -- but people forget he lost 48 games in 1994 due to the work stoppage; McGriff hit 34 homers through August 11, and if he just continued at his seasonal rate -- one every 3.35 games -- he would've easily socked at least seven more. Even if he didn't bat in every remaining game (if '94 played out), his monthly average was 6.8 HRs... and Crime Dog was hot, with 7 dingers in his last 10 games before the strike. Maybe most important, McGriff starred during the PED Era... and stayed lithe and lanky throughout.
