  1. So... we won't get to see Chapman smirking on the mound after giving up another walk-off bomb in the next postseason?
  2. Ort didn't have a season with 12.9 K/9 like Crochet just did. For reference, Blake Snell is the all-time career leader in K/9 with 11.2.
  3. Elmer's actually an Elrod. Sox fans may never see him turn into Soul Man, but hopefully someday he'll get to pitch to Jake Burger.
  4. Caution: Red Sox still-crappy defense could be exposed by Crochet whiffing batters, because now they'll have a lot more chances at dropping throws or chucking them away going round the horn. But if Boston landed Fried instead -- he who causes more weak contact -- there'd be more chances at live plays handled by weak infielders... And compare the costs: the Yankees paid more money than for any southpaw in the history of baseball... the Red Sox parted with four players who haven't even made the majors yet (and so, may not).
  5. My father was a farmer. Dig up and ship out a few trees, plant some more in the spring.
  6. I'm on board with this. Even the top-ranked prospects in the world... remember, both Benintendi and Moncada were #1 overall on at least one reputable MLB prospects list back when the Red Sox paid the cost acquiring their last lights-out lefty from Chicago.
  7. Crochet is a much better acquisition than Fried -- for the current Red Sox' starting defense. I'll take a swing-and-miss lefty over a pitch-to-contact lefty any day, especially on a club with below-average defenders at C, 3B, 1B, and who knows what at 2B (hey, kinda like the Yankees' D)... ... not to mention Crochet's a lot younger, with a lot less mileage on his arm, making a little less than the most money in the history of MLB southpaws.
  8. Give the Mets our comp pick from whoever signs Pivetta for $75 million. (it doesn't sound like Bregman's coming, if you hear Brez vs. Prez).
  9. Brock and Hugh are in -- with me that makes three. Hate to see Teel go, but they kept their TOP 3, plus their minor league HR leader in The Password, and Bleis, and Arias, and Romero. We're ok. So, the Red Sox dealt their last two #1 draft picks for a pitcher that was a first rounder. Since Boston barely ever uses its top picks on arms -- and waits to find pitchers once they're proven big leaguers -- isn't this the plan? And forget about the two years; they're not swapping all that capital if they're not extending this guy. Maybe he's our Wheeler. Let's go.
  10. It's obvious they told the Red Sox to use the 25th Discontentment on Kennedy. But he gave himself a pardon.
  11. I gotta go with Hugh, here. The Red Sox are jesters of the industry for being Interest Kings, but they would be total losers if they went this far hoarding young talent, and then traded anyone on the brink of really making it. What we can count on are more surplus deals cleaning out the system of what they deem mid-level prospects: Yorke, Lugo, Paulino, Kavadas -- which will continue to supply them with surplus mound mediocrity... and the hopes of harnessing one or two ponies into horses someday.
  12. Arenado has 10 Gold Gloves, same as Mike Schmidt, who had a career dWAR of 18.4. Arenado has a career dWAR of 20.1, and he's still only 33. Devers may not be a Gold Glover at third base, but someday he may win the Vezina Trophy (given to the NHL's best goalie) -- nobody in baseball makes more kick saves or deflects more shots with his glove than Raffy.
  13. Breslow and Bloom disagree. They insist we can play 16 vets and prospects in the same game, as long as half of them are bargain bin rehabbing reclamation relief pitchers (and don't worry about reaching the three-batter minimums; there will be plenty of at bats to go around at the salad bar manned by these soft-servers).
  14. I just want to be able to watch him and chant, "Hecan'thit, hecan'thit, swing batter!" ...at least for the 10 starts or so he'd give us.
  15. Arenado listed the Red Sox as one of the six teams he'd wave his no-trade clause to play for. The Yankees are not on there. Then I read Bradford saying Arenado had volunteered to move to first base, and that was probable if he came to Boston... WHAAAAAAAATTTT?!?!?!?!?! Arenado is one of the best fielding third basemen in baseball history, the Red Sox' infield defense is a bad joke, and they want to trade for him to try a new position? His offense hit career lows last year, so how exactly would he and his $32 million dollar salary help THE REBUILD? Catching throws from inaccurate wild arms? Sorry, patients. We all have to be patients... of the psych ward reserved for Red Sox fans waiting... every offseason this decade.
  16. I've been typing this point for a month. The Yankees' infield defense isn't any better than Boston's, so good luck with the most expensive lefthander in history. New York can afford (or isn't afraid) to throw stupid money away. Getting the ghost of Arenado will only help the D for a year or two. But the only way Breslow and Co. come out of this looking good is if they actually land a swing-and-miss starter -- or two -- to the rotation. Ya, it's only Dec. 11th, but there's also a limited number of power arms available, unless you want to trade the Number One prospect in baseball or the Minor League Player of the Year...
  17. Beginning to lose interest in the kings.
  18. Red Sox are not interested in Aaron Judge, but Buehler, who struck him out in the World Series. How boring.
  19. Listen, Breslow said they were going to be aggressive this winter, and you'd better believe it. Even reporters are insisting it's true; Tom Arrivederci said Sam Kennedy pushed him out of the way and took his taxi in Houston last night.
  20. All the GMs are looking at recent history and salivating: fireballing Sox southpaw, former closer, gets traded and wins the Cy Young Award... it just happened to another guy who began his career in Chicago! Those who forget the past...
  21. Getting Chapman is garage diving. He ventilated his garage with a pistol.
  22. 50-50, the Red Sox' record with the Wonger? So the key will be who catches the other 62!
  23. Story is what he is, at this point. Anything we get from him is a bonus going forward. I'm more worried about anyone who thinks the Red Sox can contend with Story in his 30s hitting 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the batting order.
