  1. You are correct. I was crying and sobbing so hard at the thought of losing any of these guys i forgot that Mookie would only become an FA after the 2020 season , but then I looked at the calendar and realized it would still be "next" year (2020), so it all made sense. Well, except for Porcello who needs to be resolved after this season, and JDM could pull out his option, although more likely look at that in 2020, unless his back is really bad in which case we will get to see his full contract. In any case, I don't expect to see JBJr in the long term future in Boston.
  2. Based on his first 43 G/163 PA's, resulting in a .531 OPS, he will need to OPS at about .870 for almost 2 months to reach OPS .700 by the A-s break. I really don't think his situation is resolvable until the Sox know where Betts lands and JDM's option choice is made. This tends to push Jackie to a non tender status if there is a chance he could get $10MM via arbitration. Maybe next year's super thread will be , "How did we lose Betts, Martinez, Porcello and Bradley" all at once ? The most productive time in terms of potential value might be to try and move him at the trade deadline to a wannabe contender who has an injured OF'er or needs defense in late innings.
  3. It's always good to have choices and a game plan with options . Based on both history and recent pitching, do you prefer to try Johnson mid season over going with Weber until he might flame out. Maybe it comes down to minor league options, but I would ride Weber as the #5 or spot starter until other teams catch up to his off speed approach with good movement. Last thought on Pedroia. The Sox will be paying him the next few years no matter if he can play or not. The current off season and rehab stints have not produced usable results. Why not send him away from pressing the issue, with the commitment to return next ST and see if the procedure done and effort to rehab can produce results after a long rest. If he then returns next ST and can play part time, let Pedey be a valuable bench guy in lieu of Nunez. I realize this is contrary to his laser show personality , but someone ( a Dr. or DD) needs to tell him to accept reality and make something of it.
  4. I'm confident of two things: 1. Dustin will never be back as a FT player, and not even a majority time player. 2. The Sox will let him wallow around in Portland/Pawtucket and any where else he wants to bring his gear. On the day Pedey says he's ready , then they will deal with it. He's out of sight and almost out of mind for the interim. There are other situations to solve first, like who to move for Holt and should we trade JBJr for a good #2 starting pitcher (sarcasm alert)
  5. Fernando Tilt-A-Cap shows up in Boston ?? I would trade myself to Oakland. He is a dumpster fire waiting to ignite, and no added strength to our BP.
  6. Never fear contact by Jackie
  7. Ok for all the carping on the 4 sub .200's, it was JDM who DP'ed and now Pearce and Nunez have back to back hits, station to station running. Takes 4 hits to get a run, and a walk to Leon, bringing up the lead run at bat, Jackie Bradley, JR
  8. Nunez's stealth play: swing at a pitch so bad that it injures Chirinos , trying to get into the Astros bench.
  9. Well noted. This one is a complete team effort so far
  10. Sox could finish this one with more errors than hits. Astros showing how to take advantage of the other team miscues. That's a winning mentality. Of course when it counted in 2018, the Astros choked on the chicken
  11. For all I know, Sale will win this game 10-2. But I do not see the sharpness of a real #1 carrying his sloppy teammates to a win. Glad we have Chris because otherwise Hector Velazquez and Brian Johnson would be the answer.
  12. here's where you see how JDM's back really is. Time to deliver His back has got to be hurting his swing. That one was weak. Not taking outside edge strikes to RF ?
  13. Slow, slower, slowest, down/in, down/away.
  14. Although Sale makes his mistakes, he also gets little hitting support and s***** defense behind him
  15. looking at the Astro's lineup stats BA/OPS, I have tried but just can't find the equivalents of Nunez, Pearce, Leon and Bradley. How do they win without those guys ?
  16. The obligatory Porcello by Sale is now out of the way. I can only assume Weber did not get the memo on how to dominate.
  17. 39 pitches, 9 outs with 6 K's. Was Miley never available to us?
  18. 4 guys in the lineup hitting well below .200 . They may be warming up their bats slightly but the reality is they all suck vs MLB pitching
  19. It's called fundamentals from ST. Oh wait , they probably dropped that drill to get some golf in.
  20. Nice play Steve Pearce. He had enough time to make a standard toss to Sale. Sale's WP moved the guy to second, and Sandy's attempted tag missed Diaz. Create-a run by Astros without the ballleaving the infield, except for the original ground ball single.
  21. Better try something stronger than hope. The second inning batters were in worse shape than the firsts.
  22. Agreed, he needs to pitch them to a win, although he can't personally score the runs. At some level the K's are pointless.
  23. Just what I was thinking re: Mookie, but Cora will not backtrack on his mid-winter decision, even though Beni is clearly a movable feast
  24. Chavis isn't the right guy to lead off vs Miley. The K was predictable
