  1. It is probably Capt Obvious speaking through me, but if ever Eduardo Rodriguez needed to suck it up and pitch 6 hard innings, this is the night. He needs to keep them in the game more than just the first 2 innings. Either he can be a big game guy or his agent will get pissed on when trying to shop him this winter. I'll give ERod 2 runs allowed over 6 innings and pat him on the back. He will still need some hitting support but that is in others hands.
  2. No Arroyo nor Iglesias either at 2B. The loss of the DH in NL parks penalizes AL teams more than the NL gaining one in AL Parks.
  3. The team entered the final 9 games pretty much in a great place to hold the WC#1 ; win at least 1 of the Yankee games 2 of 3 vs O's ; sweep the Nats. Somehow the train wrecked and they have dropped 5 of 6 , now truly need the Nats sweep and even that may only get you game #163 with Jays or M's, which the Sox will need to win to get the WC#2 the following day. You can debate the starting pitchers for the Washington series all day , but you then need someone to pitch next week if you achieve your goal or you are quickly out anyway. But if you don't burn the 3 legit starters against the Nats, you don't need to worry anyway. One thing that is wearisome is reading/listening to the interview quotes from Cora and team members like Bogaerts in Ian Browne's puff pieces saying that we need to improve, fix our very poor AB's and avoid giving up the 3 run blasts. Just play the game . I have no interest in what you are thinking or even if you do think . Don't sugarcoat it, you blew the opportunity for a great season, even short of the WS, and now are scrambling to avoid being on the DNR list.
  4. And for exceeding expectations, you will get your participation trophy mailed to your primary address or second home or cabin in the woods, Red Sox
  5. Book it and also I have a great investment opportunity but need your credit card # first
  6. This was a .500 team coming out of ST with weak pitching and 4 AAAA'ers in the lineup regularly. The O's screwed them out of the gate then, and are finishing up the job now.
  7. Have no fear, final score will be 8-6 Red Sox, but they will make your ulcers bleed watching it.
  8. nevin, a .167 hitter. Richards really f***ed this one up
  9. Totally concur. The problem with the September Sox is not the pitching, it is the bats and key guys having awful hitting tendencies
  10. Honestly, how bad can a human ump be. Awful pitch by Pivetta. The , given the gift, Pivetta gives it back on a 3 runner.
  11. Remind me to never trade for Jahmi Jones
  12. Pivetta loses command
  13. With this game in contention and Toronto 1 back plus getting to play the same Orioles at home for their final 3, you have to say it's a virtual must win out for both the Sox and Jays. Yankees can lose 1 and not be caught One hint for Boston, do not let inferior team hang around and think they have a shot at you. Find the big inning bats and put this one away.
  14. I think Manny Gonzalez went to the Laz Diaz , Angel Hernandez and C.B. Buckner School of Umpiring.
  15. Pivetta has command of his curve ball so far
  16. Umpires not going to playoffs are in a hurry to get home , just like about 20 other teams.
  17. Just think, if Pivetta does get the CG SHO, then our next 24 hitters could all K and we still win
  18. Mullins K's but he has a better BA (.297) and OPS(.897) than any Red Sox regular other than Shwarbs .924 OPS. Wonder if he will be looking for a new home in a couple years.
  19. The real benefit of getting the lead on the first pitch is that if your pitcher(s) throw a shutout, the game is already won, similar to last night. Now that this W is secured we can relax and just enjoy the game
  20. At least starting off in the lead, a beneficial position. Sort of missed a breakthrough inning though
  21. As examples to better comprehend: #1 describes the back end of the bullpen # 2 describes Sale and Eovaldi #3 describes no one who has graduated from the Sox MiLB system in the last 20 years
  22. True prime, in today's dollars Ted would have been $35-$40 million. I believe that with his exceptional military service he actually did not play in his true prime years.
  23. Or maybe 4 more ? Need to win them all. Don't underanalyze
  24. Is it too early or too presumptious to speculate on the 26 man roster for the WC ? We know Iglesias can't play, but who else may get shuffled ?
