  1. Weiss proves the crapshoot theory. You just can't run these dogass relievers out for 2 innings. Thanks, Chris Sale for your stellar effort
  2. LOBsters all around
  3. Weiss gets a clean inning thankfully. But when you are sweeping up the Angels discarded relievers, I will tell you it's a crapshoot, like most of them.
  4. Cricket players take better swings then Yoshi does now. He has always needed to stay inside and slash it to left . When he gets away from that he is not the same
  5. Now having expressed serious disgust with sale, keep in mind this game is now at 7-5 very winnable. Go get it, Boys
  6. Seriously, if Chris Sale says he needs to be better and keep working at it, then I will fly to Boston tomorrow to advise him to grow the F up and perform. He is an albatross contract happening before your eyes Story will be next
  7. Weather forecast shows rain until about 6pm EDT, but more rain in each day's forecast through Thursday. Poor playing conditions
  8. There has to be some story about Trevor Story's radical failure to hit . The lack of a normal ST has faded as he now has 100PA's . 1 HR and 5 rbi's combined with .486 OPS is way off the mark. 36% K rate, using PA's, exceeds his career rate of 28.5% . His BB rate of 5% means he is chasing a lot of pitches to no avail. He will turn 31 in November so may be at the top of his productive arc in baseball. Trevor does bring the defense and the arm is looking good , but the team needs some basic production from the SS position. Might have to wait until ST to see what the real Story actually is.
  9. Homage to the best #9 ever to play at Fenway on 9/9 , the Kid, Splendid Splinter, Teddy Ballgame, self described SOB , Jimmy Fund volunteer , Mr. Williams. So glad I was able to see him live in the 1950's . Lots of discussion on various threads regarding our 50+ pitch, 3-5 inning "starting" pitchers . Today we can see if the wily old veteran Chris F. Sale can show how to do it differently. In his last 3 starts, Chris has not exceeded 5 innings , allowing 7 runs in 14.2 innings (4.43 ERA/ 1.41 WHIP). His O's opponent is Jack Flaherty , who has not excelled either, with less than 5 inning starts in his last 3 . Overall ERA of 6.66/ 1.52 WHIP. Flaherty cam3e over from the Cardinals in a trade at the deadline. Imagine a first place team trading for pitching support in late July. Normally , you would expect the Sox hitters to get some runs on Flaherty but until the current streak of no timely hits, and 50% K's can be broken, the team's results remain broken. Just stay ahead of NYY for another 3 weeks.
  10. This 2023 team seems to continue its streakiness with all players contributing in strange ways . A 50%+ K rate over two games may be a SSS but it's not the first time this season that they have gone into a collective hitting funk. Of course, Rays and O's pitching may be a part of it.
  11. The stats do tell a story on all of these 4 pitchers. The top of rotation types get stronger as the game progresses and their pitch mixes vary to keep hitters from timing them. I do wonder as to what extent conditioning and pitch calling may have to do with their significant decline after 50 pitches. One thing they all have in common is pitching middle-middle and up in zone vs. commanding the corners. Also lack of a definitive 2 strike pitch to close out a batter.
  12. It's getting weary watching the games and then seeing the postgame comments by Cora and the pitcher of the day speak of how they just need to get better. Paxton is a pro at it, as is Sale and now Houck is spouting the line. I appreciate their intent and effort , but why not, just once, actually do it ? Get better, think, execute, do whatever to be successful. I'm personally tired of listening to why you were almost good . Get over the hump or find a new line of highly paid work.
  13. You can count on that ! But the guy will have one leg and no fingers .
  14. My only reason is that in the PDT, these games run from 4pm to 7:30 pm and then it's still dinnertime, plus I watch brilliant sunsets over the hills between innings. We can still go out for dinner or entertainment . This season which should have been interesting really is in the dumpster where Bloom shops and Cora picks out recyclables
  15. Do not waste a 2 year contract this winter on Duvall. Try some other jabroney
  16. The position players must be saying WTF am I doing out here ? 10 Runs scored over the last 4 innings.
  17. Just another general butt whooping by a superior team. Sox just don't have anyone who is hitting or pitching very well right now. Have they packed it in ? Pretty much Walter continues to prove that he needs some pitching training from the Rays or Dodgers
  18. Orioles can hit HR's in Fenway but not so much the Sox
  19. In the clubhouse, it's called the "Pilin' of the K's"
  20. Even basic defensive plays are beyond Valdez's comprehension.
  21. Devers K'ed with a RISP, but Turner brings Dugo in to take the RBI lead for this season. Devers is a drag on this team.
  22. Story so far behind the FB, the umpire had already thrown out the next inning ball, and had a drink of Gatorade by the time Trevor fully rotated through the sir without nary a sound of wood vs hide being made
  23. Heart of the lineup Turner, Casas and Duvall are 5 for 5 K's. Then Duvall makes it an even 6 for 6.
  24. Pitch count now OK to very good, but one pitch location, not so much.
  25. Houck improves his pitch count to 43 for 3 innings, so he could get 5+. Also throwing a shutout for first 3, not the first time . He now will work on completing the 2nd time through the lineup.
