  1. Any plaudits coming from you, oh Deity, are more special than making the catch I made to get the Dal-Rich Rebels the Texas state championship at the Pepsi Games in 1988. Still have the ball !
  2. Tauchman's catch would have been routine in Boston's deeper CF . I didn't see Tris Speaker play, but did see Piersall , Lynn, JBJ , Duran and now Rafaela. There's just no comparison between them. Speaker actually made a considerable number of errors , mostly attributable to the tiny gloves they had compared to today's cestas. 1950's era pitching by Boston did give JP a lot more chances. Lynn played for 5 teams, so if he was that good surely someone would have locked him up to a 10 yr, $300 million deal, just not Boston though. JBJ was smooth and slick to the spot the parabolic arc of the ball would fall to Earth , like Ziggy Stardust.
  3. Cool , wet weather in SoCal tonight, not likely a rainout but not a good night for sore backs, legs, shoulders or pitcher's grips on the ball. Love to get the 1st win in this series.
  4. The Orioles series in Boston to open Fenway will be the real test, although the Angels won't be as weak as the A's were. After the 9-0 opener, the Sox scored 5 runs total , but won them all. Pitching through 4.32% of the season has been great . Then we get the Angels at Fenway followed by the Guardians (5-2) for 4, then 3 in Pittsburg ending April 21. Red Sox should be still over .500 at that point
  5. Sorry for the very early posting of the game thread but may not be available Friday to continue the winning streak Kutter Crawford teed up to face Griffin Canning .Griffin is a middling starter with one loss in his only start of this year. 5 runs in 5 innings, with only 2 K's Kutter is one of our 5 starters producing good results, getting the team to a 5-2 record The Angels have a flawed team and a not great BP. But they haven't met the Red Sox bats yet . Pitch around Michael Nelson Trout and the Sox should get 2 of 3 in Anaheim
  6. Next game, Friday the 5th vs an Angels team that can be beat also.
  7. Thank you inept A's. Sox were only slightly less inept today but it goes as a W in the book, which is the stat that counts. Kenly in back to back closes, throws 26 then 21 pitches. Give the man the day off tomorrow, AC. Kenley will get hit hard throwing high zone against good batters
  8. Yet another blown DP ball. This time Valdez's relay to 1st. Unbelievable
  9. Jansen is high with the majority of his pitches, then can't quite get the corner. Tells me his back problems are preventing him from a full follow through on his motion. The guy is going to be a problem, even if he does save this one
  10. 10 hits and a walk for 1 run ? C'mon man ! Yoshi still asleep at the plate. So now it goes to Kenley to do his stuff and save the victory/sweep
  11. Sox flirting with messing this one up, and potentially blowing another superb pitching job. Take the sweep the A's are offering
  12. Story with 2 blown DP's today. Not the pitcher's best friend.
  13. Devers shoulder may be sore but that scorcher of a double tells me he is starting a hot streak. 2nd/3rd , 1 out, how many can we get? None thanks to DP Casas. Can he actually hit a fly ball ?
  14. Just don't feel this will be ending 1-0. Never let an opponent like the A's hang around this long. Find a way to get on base and work your way around to score. infield single, steal 2B, go to 3B on a slow roller out, then a sac fly.
  15. Meanwhile in NYY land, Aaron Boone has limited Verdugo to one neck chain per game . Verdugo who is used the 3 or 4 per game feels naked on the field, and he is not talking about his talents .
  16. Joely does seem to have it settled down a bit better than he showed in Seattle. Slaten's pitches look fairly flat, not a lot of movement.
  17. Rare to have that depth of talent and flexibility on the bench ready to report for duty.
  18. Probably an astute prognostication .. Let's see-- sore during ST, 2 days off of first 4 to rest it, isn't hitting well---- Yeah, sore left shoulder on a guy who overswings with some regularity, and holds the bat with both hands on the extended follow through. If , in fact, the shoulder is hampering his hitting, it won't get much better as the season progresses until Raffy gets on the 15+day IL.
  19. This time Story makes the play and Pivetta holds his shutout. Get some runs, boys.
  20. Story has an example of a play NOT MADE, but no error, that may cost Pivetta this inning. Should have been an inning ending DP, but turns into a hit given Trevor's matador defense. Followed by a check swing "bunt" hit to load the bases. Worse yet, Joely Rodriguez is warming up.
  21. Pretty soon Duran, the OBP machine, will weary of Devers failure to hit behind him. Even Jarren cannot outrun the DP balls being served up by Raffy. Rafaela is out-stating Devers at the plate right now. Yes, this is an intentional slight at Devers who needs to get going.
  22. Pivetta treated to the absolute minimum lead possible in baseball, 1-0 . Holds up well through 4 with another nice play at the Cf wall by Rafaela, not quite the hard running catych of last night, but enough to save a run and help hold Pivetta's and the Sox lead. Interesting debate on how to quantify the value of difficult plays made to save runs vs rbi's from hits/ productive outs. Cedanne is a player in any event
  23. Pivetta still throwing blanks through 3 . Hitters batting blanks through 3. Need a breakout inning here Abreu did get a hit so there's that
  24. Was that a double steal that Devers should have swung through or a run/hit and he got some bad luck when Stripling speared it ?
  25. That actually was a very good grab and throw in a tough spot. Raffy definitely made that play.
