  1. Valdez can give the ball a ride. Oakland plays down to their AAAA status and ability
  2. Casas at least makes contact and bounces a single up the middle to score Duran with 2 outs. That works.
  3. Is Wong dinged up or is AC trying to get McGuire's bat into the offense more. ? Wong seemed to be the #1 catcher for most of 2023 and through ST.
  4. After seeing the pitching results in Seattle the past 4 games, it was interesting to see Peter Abraham's comments on the marked reduction in 4 seam fastballs being used by Boston, mimicing the same strategy in SF last year. Bailey may be making a real mark on the pitching staff. None of our guys are power pitchers anyway. So we will have to see if a heavy diet of breaki9ng balls and changeups interspersed with fewer heaters has an effect on these arms. Who does call the pitches at this time ? Wong/McGuire per a game plan for each hitter or direct from the bench by Bailey ? I did see McGuire looking over that way quite a bit Sunday . Maybe it was fielder positioning or maybe pitch calling.
  5. Tanner Houck has the challenge of keeping up with the remarkable starting pitching displayed against the Mariners. Can he break the 3rd time through the lineup curse? A's run out Joe Patrick Boyle, one fine Irishman, who at 6'-7" will be throwing downhill at our guys. Boyle , 24, went 2-0 over 3 games for the 2023 A's with a 1.69 ERA ( meaningless) and a.081 WHIP over 16 innings ( meaningful) . What did we learn in Seattle ? Pitching looks focused both starting and in relief. #26 on the roster actually got in an inning without getting scored on. Hitting is O'Neill , Devers skipped 50% of the games , Casa and Duran not yet helping . Wilyer Abreu is 1 for 7 with 4 K's. Putting this thread out early due to a busy Monday upcoming and don't want to forget it
  6. Now onto 3 with the A's.. Got to be 2-1 minimum. Could be a rewarding trip West this time.
  7. Nice win for the Visitors , great starting pitching. Could easily have been 4-0, like NYY in Houston . Encouraging in general. Still a few roster moves to make as April rolls in.
  8. I guessed that Boston would throw Rodriguez again today just to prove a point . Joely did get through the inning with no real damage, got robbed by the HP ump. I would still not let him be #26 for long.
  9. The umpiring at HP gets worse with time. Joely had a legit K on Urias, turns into a walk.
  10. Which is when, so I don't miss it ?
  11. Abreu does get a hit , much to his credit, but he hit it too hard so Yoshi couldn't try to score from 2B. Wilyer just can't get it right. Just trying to bait Max
  12. That was a pro swing by Valdez, huge 2 out HR. Long way to go but again the table is set for a win, now pick it up.
  13. The umpire problem rolls on. HP ump calls exactly the same pitch a ball, then a strike. Whitlock will be challenged to get 5 innings with the high 40 pitch count.
  14. Abreu just not ready at all, but O'Neill is hitting like he can. Stay in the lineup , Tyler
  15. Whitlock dealing to match his rotation mates. Good to see
  16. So Miller, along with 3 other Mariner pitchers are all Cy Young candidates so far, BUT the K rate on the BoSox is not looking good. Somebody besides Devers needs to hit a ball. Duran, Casas and Story are not doing much so far.
  17. Although I advocated for Bernandino to be on the roster and available, we are arguing over the 26th slot on a roster that is loaded with question marks and "soreness' to key players. I had told myself to not get emotionally involved with what happens to this year's version of the Sox, and realized after last night's loss, why give a flying F .
  18. Unprepared, overmatched, on his way out when Refsnyder comes back.
  19. What might have been a surprisingly positive start to the season with a couple early wins already has the stench of the Bloom era wafting up to the roof of T-Mobile. The vigilantes are out in full force to get Cora, Breslow and probably Bailey fired over Joely Rodriguez . I have a different take: Wilyer Abreu, willyer go back to AAA and learn something useful on the baseball diamond like hitting and fielding But in the spirit of Easter renewal, let's help the boys get a series split in Seattle. Whitlock has the enormous job of matching the stellar efforts of Bello, Pivetta and Crawford. Oh yeah, Jansen is a dead weight this year, which I pointed out before Game #1. Put him on the PUP list and trade him to the Patriots.
  20. You are correct, he only saved the opener, so belatedly in much agreement with you.
  21. A classic lesson in how to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. This is why 78-84 may be a reach in 2024
  22. The phat phuque cannot go two nights in a row
  23. Abreu is on this team exactly why?
  24. Sooner or later, Cora will realize Joely is a snake bit MF and quit using him. Brennan B. come on down
  25. Yoshi with a truly key hit, after McGuire shows why he should be in the game in later innings. Now to seal the deal, 3 easy outs for the win
