The Rays are 1st in defense, 2nd in runs scored, and 3rd in pitching in the AL. Interesting comparison with the SOX in that the SOX have a .259BA while the Rays as a team are at .232. Yet, both teams are a hair apart in runs per game. Can anyone say timely hitting? Another interesting stat is the Rays' OBP is .318 and the SOX are at .319. It appears the Rays have been more patient and selective at the plate. One last stat is the Rays' defense has prevented 29 runs, which is 2nd only to the Padres' 34 in MLB.
Combine this well-balanced team with a very good and innovative manager and an excellent FO and they are very much for real and are probably the team to beat in the AL East.
And this is the nicest thing I'll ever say about anything in Florida.
