  1. How many 0 a nd 1 run games have we had this year with Sale pitching. I think at least 5. May this not be another.
  2. There are no Red Sox hitters in the top 80 (Majors) OPS. Hanley has 49 rbi, Sandy Leon with just over 200 at bats in the eighth hole has 36. I still think we need a DH who can also play an average left field (5th outfielder). Maybe a power switch-hitter would be nice.
  3. Actually you can throw in any Minors' starter we have, because you can BOOK IT that they will at best be end up end of rotation guys, even when selected in the first round. We will pick up our starters from elsewhere, PER USUAL.
  4. Especially when there's no Sept. extended bench to blab about.... the chance for some of the minor league guys to shine, while resting the bigs for a better day.
  5. At least Seattle has a 1-0 lead over Yanks in a real baseball game. And we can also look forward to Sanchez suspension--it might match up with our 4 game series there.
  6. This is way too familiar. This is Farrell's greatest weakness as a manager--he doesn't seem to know at what point a game can be saved, if he's willing to act.
  7. I couldn't agree with you more.
  8. One of those very rare Sox complete game outings (not by Chris Sale) and against one of the best lineups in the the AL. It's funny how we penciled in a win last night and lost, and a loss tonight, and won handily with a one-hitter by Doug Fister. He allows a leadoff homer and perhaps all of us said "Here we go again" but never allowed another hit through nine innings. Surprise! Surprise!
  9. I agree. I think what we might want to say is that, as with our starters, we really, at the moment, have only one truly dependable guy, and at times this is frustrating. But Reed is coming around--and has had about 6 no-runs-allowed outings which is great given the time he's been here, and all the adjustments that need be made.
  10. It's truly sexist, though. Isn't it interesting how men use the words they insult women with on men who aren't male enough. These same men seem to be aware of racist terms and avoid them but blank out (and even "love" as in the p word used above) sexist terms. Also, interesting how the blowing of one game can bring out such a lust of anger. It's fine to criticize, and show some spunk doing it, but this is over the top which is why another poster jumped on it.
  11. I get the gist of it, but one thing I appreciate about this board is the absence of all these personal ratings. My chief reason is that they promote responses which have popularity and ratings in mind. You don't write what you really want to but what elicits votes. This is a subtle pressure that takes you away from your own opinion and thought. It's like a journalist having to write for an editor (this will be changed so I will say it his other way). Up and down votes here might cause a minor form or self-censorship but I think it's real enough to undermine one's independence. (I don't mean to get too lofty but you get my point)
  12. I dissent. I don't think the idea of the "whiny" professional athlete has much traction. Never when it comes to injuries, and rarely when it comes to ego. I've noticed over the years that fans rarely mind the ego of star athletes on their own teams---except when they begin to under-perform, and then the bitterness sets in. The star becomes the spoiled brat or the whiner. This does not mean that I supported the signing of Price for that contract. I was solidly opposed to it, as I was to the signings of Hanley, and Sandoval.
  13. To add to starting rotation woes, Pomeranz exits suddenly with either back spasms or some back injury. I think the undisclosed injury in the trade with the Padres was an elbow issue. So no rel.
  14. First, I never said that it was a smart move... in fact I said I was opposed to a trade. Second, you are nothing like Stephen Curry.
  15. What's with all the Sarcasm. Are you all trying to tell me that a right fielder cannot play left field?? That is weird. Maybe if you mean he's too big a star to change positions, then why is everyone here willing to put him at first. (besides do you think we can save our whole outfield in a trade for Stanton?) Also, outfielders as they age, often switch to left field, so why not put him there first, or maybe we can trade Mookie for Stanton if you don't think he'd play any other pos. I'm not for a trade but I think if there is one, these are the minimal costs we will entail.
  16. Re-read. I said Beni + 2 prospects or Beni + Bogaerts.
  17. First, the Yanks and Dodgers are probably in the driver's seat, but what I would offer is Beni (Stanton takes over left field for the next 9 years in the tradition of slugging Red Sox left fielders), and either two top prospects or Bogaerts. If that's not enough, we move on on.
  18. It was great to see David Price out on the field leading the celebrations of last night's win. It tells me he is highly motivated in terms of the team, and is very much a part of the team.
  19. I don't believe any trade is happening, but if we're involved, I would think that Beni and a top prospect would be the cost. Stanton would be in the outfield.. not a first base. I'm opposed to it.
  20. Obviously the cost of Stanton is the contract or why wasn't he claimed? But I guess teams must want a better deal, a lower yearly price for him in exchange for a few players. We would have to give up an outfielder and a prospect or two in exchange for say 17 million a year instead of 30 million a year. Or am I wrong??
  21. Managers in the NL get more credit for wins, because their job is more complex, and because when a pinch hitter wins a game, the manager is often cited in the press. I get a kick out of the Yankee's John Sterling who in almost every game disagrees with or second guesses Girardi's moves. He gets away with this because he has a kind oh-shucks-what-do-really-know way of criticizing, but you can bet that most of his listeners prefer his authority to Joe's.
  22. I thought that both Bogaerts and Betts would be more convincing hitters than they presently are, but Devers might be different. For one, he's a power hitter, and yes, he does have that Foxx grounded, unflappable, established kind of looks and body structure. And he may be even more of a season saver than was Bogaerts in his first couple months. Wow, 1924. Now that's what I call baseball memory.
  23. And why do I think that Jay Bruce might be a factor for the Guardians in that series with us... I think they've been undefeated since they acquired him.
  24. I've got to think we've seen the worst of Reed. He had 19 saves, 2.57 ERA, 48 k to 6 bb. with the Mets. I know the AL is tougher, but I'm thinking his best is yet to come. Between he and Carson Smith, maybe the bull pen will peak again.
  25. Who really is our no. 2 reliever right now? Is it Reed or Barnes? So far, according to the use pattern, it's hard to tell. It's a good problem to have, but I feel more secure with Reed than with Barnes. Reed may quickly adjust to that to the green monster.
