  1. It was poor reporting, there was a lot of mis-information out there regarding the situation. Not saying the sox didn't do wrong they obviously did, I'm not going back there but this is a subject so few know anything about or are used to reporting that it's easy to get their story wrong. The Sox had all the guys taken away they should not have signed last year and are banned from this current signing period from July 2nd 2016 up to July 1st 2017.
  2. I would never dream of giving up Espinoza unless it was part of a larger package to bring in a true TOTRS. I can't remember any point of my lifetime the Sox having a pitching prospect with as good of stuff and as highly regarded as AE. I mean there was Clemens but I was a child and I don't know how he projected when he was a minor leaguer. I'd be very hesitant to give up Kopech!!! but I would. Kopech is someone who could be shooting up the rankings too once he gets more games underneath him. He's got good stuff, a feel for a 3rd pitch and can reach triple digits.
  3. I just double checked it, they are banned from this current signing period. They can jump back in with zero restrictions next year. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/mlb-takes-away-prospects-red-sox-hammers-boston-international-penalties/#QHbEOsUU0H7WmLpP.97
  4. I'm pretty sure they are baned this year up until July 2nd of 2017. Meaning they can sign guys in the next period.
  5. Then again Ellsbury also had one whole year in the minors than Benintendi did, about 100 more at this point. Jacoby was also a whole year older than Andrew, people forget that Benintendi was a draft eligible sophomore with really just a 1 year track record entering the draft. So it's not going to hurt his development to give him some more time in the minors at this point. No one else from that draft class has reached the majors yet.
  6. While I've generally been on the side of NOT bringing up Benintendi it wouldn't be completely unprecedented to bring him up based on performance and NOT need. Jacoby Ellsbury flew up through the minors and hit his way onto the team in 07 and DD has more of a history than other recent Sox G.M.s of bringing up top prospects to the majors quickly. Yes we probably wouldn't be talking about it much, and yes I think we should be cautious about rushing him but if the need is there and he is just putting up video game numbers in the minors I think you will see it. Now would just be dumb, but by mid August? I don't think it's completely out of question that it happens.
  7. Well we wouldn't of and shouldn't have anyways. We can jump back into the international market again next year and unless MLB comes out with an international draft I suspect the Sox to be very active.
  8. No he's not, I suppose we should include him in there as well.
  9. Yoan Moncada was the futures game MVP yesterday. It's going to be great seeing Moncada/Benintendi/Betts/Bogaerts in the same lineup.
  10. One thing I think I've overlooked is the DD variable. He's been much more inclined than the Sox front offices of the past to rush guys to the majors. Still, you don't see Benintendi is July, he will get at least a few more weeks in AA and if they do plan on bringing him up they should start giving him some reps in LF. Normally you move a guy in AAA but it might make since to do it now because there is a very big wall out in LF in Portland and Benintendi won't get that in Pawtucket.
  11. Well I don't get too caught up in Milb stats with young players. They need to produce eventually but a lot more scouting and projection go into how guys are valued the lower you go. I think Alexander is kind of looked at the same without his value being impacted that much but Alejandro has really increased his value. The Sox prospects were poised to move him up into the 9-11 range assuming Groomed signed which means without Groome he'd be 8-10. So we can deduce that at least one source had the Basabes switch which one was the good one. But perhaps they are just selling high on him too, or he could be emerging.
  12. Earlier in the year it seemed as if BP was more down on Devers and Espinoza than most other scouting organizations. Now it's as if they are more high on them than anyone else. That could have been 5 guys in the top 24, and while I still think the Kimbrel trade was an overpay I think it was worth it (hard to type after the injury but it was) and Benintendi's rise made Margot expendable.
  13. In terms of player development, I still trust their judgment. As I said before the only way I see Benintendi this year is if he really continues to hit and forces the issue. If he's still mashing the ball they might be comfortable moving him up to Pawtucket some time around July 31st, and if someone goes down in August and he's hitting in AAA it could happen. At this point I think it's more likely than not we don't see him. I too would be interesting to see how he does, great prospects struggle often when they come up and it doesn't mean they aren't going to be great players E.G. Bogaerts and JBJ and sometimes guys pretty much hit the ground running too E.G. Ellsbury and Betts.
  14. I know the perception is this wasn't the "good Basabe" but this guys stock was skyrocketing, impressing scouts all year, so for all we know there are teams out there who view him as the better prospect right now.
  15. Whats the worst that could happen? You completely screw up a guys development and screw with him for a year plus. This guy just got to AA, I don't care how well he's hitting there you don't take a guy who just got out of A ball and look at his slash line and immediately think he must be ready and should be called up to the big club. Thank god front offices don't think like that. I placing my wagers right now that the only way we see Benintendi this year before September 1st is if he's really pushing it in the minors AND one of JBJ/Betts goes down.
  16. Torn meniscus is not a sever injury, it's nerve racking anytime you think about having a knee injury and needing surgery. If this was an torn tendon that would be a completely different story but we should get him back and he should be able to get a good month under his belt before seasons end.
  17. Years of control is close to irrelevant if a guy is ready. I have an insanely hard time seeing a guy who is 6 weeks removed from A ball being MLB ready.
  18. And that deal by consensus was considered an overpay by the Sox. Teams overpay, and get steals all the time. Perhaps a G.M. out there would make that trade, but that would be a bad trade for the Boston Red Sox and I think DD would be chased out of town if he gave up both Benintendi and Espinoza for a middle of the rotation starter.
  19. I'd inquire on the price of guys like Tanner Roark, or Drew Pomeranz. I'm not as low on Teheran as others here but I don't think he has any more upside than who he is now. He could help the rotation but they'd still need an ACE or Price to step it up in the 2nd half.
  20. I'd consider Kopech, Devers, Owens for Teheran...especially if we can get a lower level prospect back in the deal as well.
  21. I think the odds that Espinoza is included in any trade is slim to none, with a much better shot if it's part of a larger package for a #1. If the Sox sign Groome, I think the odds are still against it but they may go up.
  22. Every trade and situation is different. What did Texas give up for Cole Hamels at the deadline last year? a better pitcher with a much better track record. Also, elite pitching is more valuable than elite hitting. Espinoza is being talked about as the best possible pitching prospect right now. He still ranks behind Urias, but some scouts are starting to say they see a higher ceiling in him. Every trade and every situation is different, needs and farm system depth also need to be considered. A team willing to go for it my be more willing to deal top prospects. DD has a reputation of trading but also hoarding.....I highly doubt he'd trade both Espinoza and Benintendi unless it's in a package to get a TOTRS back.
  23. So the sum of these two prospects rankings are twice as high as Hanley and Sanchez, also you 're comparing rankings from a decade apart. I like your response coining the phrase "symmetry" but specifically if you were a GM would you make that trade? without just looking at a number, taking into account the scouting reports and how each projects as well.
  24. Would you trade Anderson Espinoza and Andrew Benintendi + another lower level prospect for Julio Teheran???
  25. Championship caliber teams and organizations make all the small moves too, this trade could easily stand alone or be part of more to come. A larger trade could be in the works regardless.
