Might I add that it doesn't look good for Carson Smith either. He had a "setback" in his rehab and the organization has said that they "don't rule out a return this year" which to me is jargon for...."he's probably not coming back this year."

Sox could use a high leverage reliever and we've all seen what the market for those are the last couple trade deadlines. Teams could ask for Rafael Devers for a closer caliber reliever and someone else will pay it if you don't. I think they need to start cycling through guys in Pawtucket and see what sticks. Chandler Shepard, Jalen Beeks, Kyle Martin, Brandon Workman and focus on a stop gap 3B. It is obvious they will not rush Devers.......but perhaps that might change come July 31st if he's still crushing it in the minors and the price for a 3B is too high. Personally I think the plan is to promote him after the AA all star break. So if he's mashing it in Pawtucket for a couple weeks I think the team might reconsider bringing him up in August.

Eh, I disagree. You don't trade for Chris Sale no questions asked. A last place team with Chris Sale is still a last place team. I'm not knocking the trade as we were far from a last place team last year.

If this team isn't good enough to win the WS this year then I'm even more PO'd that we depleted almost our entire farm system for 2-3 years.

Thanks guys, I've been following the international thread on the Soxprospects site but haven't time to post a lot. Flores was described by one scout as "the best prospect I've ever seen". A lot of hype around this kid, and the Sox have a very good recent track record with their recent top international signings. It's worth following baseball americas Ben Badler on twitter the next week when it comes to these July 2nd signings. Baseball America is really completely unrivaled when it comes to international prospects.

This is really a lack luster list. Chavis has definitely raised his stock some and Ockimey has shown a good approach at the plate but both these guys value will be tied into their bat as their defense is sub-par. This is more true for Ockimey who can only really play 1B. Most of these guys have more paths to never playing in the bigs than ever becoming everyday regulars. Beeks, Shawaryn, and Anderson have value as potential future relievers but this list shows the Sox lack of depth in the farm system. Mata might be a guy who commands some interest as he probably has the highest upside arm after Groome in the system. Bryan Mata/Chavis/Ockimey might get you a decent 3B....but it won't get you the Moose. Unfortunately, our system has been so depleted there is no way we would get an all star caliber player without giving up Devers/Groome. Maybe you part with one of those guys if you are trading for a guy who is about to hit FA.

I agree that Chavis will likely move off position, but I also agree that he is trade bait. DD is trade happy, and with the system depleted and the only two blue-chippers left in areas of need it makes sense that a guy who significantly raises his stock like Chavis is something for him to dangle to another team.

I agree with the overall point here. The guys who are supposed to hit have not hit. But a WS caliber deep lineup has guys up and down who can pick up the slack when others slump. You don't have to have a silver slugger at every position, but having a guy below the Mendoza line really sticks out. This team has appeared to have put all its eggs in the basket over the next three years, you'd think it would be imperative to find a viable solution at 3rd. I'm ok with the defensive stop gap who can play one side of the ball well. But we can't go into the playoffs with Marrero at 3B

I'm not sure if Lin can hit worse than Marrero. At the very least he's Marrero at the plate with a little bit more speed. Still, the Sox need a more viable solution at 3B.

Lin is not your answer in the infield. I see him more of an up/down guy riding the shuttle from Pawtucket to Boston......and that's the best projection he's had since he was signed.

I think it's a great sign, he should add some stability to the back of the rotation. If Erod can come back healthy, and/or Price can do what he did last year and have a very strong season after his first month then the pitching should be fine.

I was a little concerned with Chavis numbers the last month in Salem. His K rate was up and everything else down (except a few homers) Still, it's a relatively small sample size and perhaps he was just pressing because he was a bit bored down there.

Then again it's not like Fister has been washed up and so bad he's not a MLB pitcher. He pitched last year! He just wasn't as good as he's been in the past but even if he pitches no better than he did the last two years he will still be a viable option at the back of this rotation.

Every once in a while a team catches lightning in a bottle with a guy like Fister. Maybe we can be that team!!!!!

Who knows, he's so young and advanced for his age it might not set him back as much as people think. No matter where he was he was going to need a few years to build up his innings. It will interesting to see how he progresses from this point forward.

If your 2nd best pitcher is a guy who gives up more hits than innings pitched and can't get out of the 6th then you are not a world series caliber team and you're a deeply flawed team.

At least Peavy had a much larger track record of success where is a lot of people were skeptical that Pomeranz was a starter long term (still are). Also, I'd argue that Espinoza has a much larger ceiling that Iglesias did.

Interesting enough the Sox best prospect is a 3B in Rafael Devers. He's also a blue chipper that regarded about as high as guys like Betts/Bogaerts/Moncada in recent years. Sox don't look to rush him and screw up his development, so the question becomes do you want to waste what little assets you have left to trade for a rental when you have Devers coming up right behind? Not sure I have the silver bullet to that problem. It looks like we have the solution long term but no solution immediately, and DD has given this team a 3 year window so we need a quicker solution.

Theres also a ton of guys not on that list who may not be stars, but they have big league experience and in some shape or form added value to big league teams at some point.

I'd be insanely surprised if we didn't land him. I believe we have signed 100% of our top 10 picks under the new system the past 6 years. -
I believe he was also battling with an injury. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends the year in Greenville.
