There goes Logan Gilbert #14 to the Mariners. I guess he was sort of a pipe dream though.

reminiscent of Groome falling in the draft, I have a hard time seeing him falling that far. The thing is once you fall out of the top 12 or so you're falling to teams who didn't anticipate you being there and didn't plan on having the money for you so theres a chance the teams draft the guy they had in their plans and the player keeps falling. I forget the players' name but there was a guy a few years back who was a consensus top 10 picks who fell out of the first round but still got one of the highest bonuses in the draft because a team a big bonus pool was able to afford his demands in the compensation round. He could fall, but he might blow up your whole draft too to get him.

If Available the Sox will select Logan Gilbert or Brice Turang. Very good chance those guys go off the board in the 15-25 area of the draft. Aside from those guys falling the names that have been heavily connected to the Sox the past week have been. Seth Beer. OF JR Clemson. Shane McClanahan. LHP JR. Florida Steele Walker OF JR. Oklahoma Seth Beers name has been showing up a lot leading right up to the draft, he definitely wins the coolest name in the draft. Also, of interest, is Roger Clemens son Kody Clemens is in this draft and has had talks with the Sox leading up to tonight. I'm not sure where he's projected to go but he's on the board for this team as well.

Coming up through the system Devers was always notoriously a slow starter, although this time it could also be trying to adjust to the league. He's still insanely young, and I have little doubt in time he's going to be a beast at the plate.

I'd like to see Beeks given a shot at some point. Many people have him pegged for a reliever at the MLB level and maybe he can be a great one at that buy when you do what he's doing at AAA right now you give the kid a chance to prove you wrong first. I wouldn't mind seeing a 6 man rotation for a month or so. The extra rest might help get some guys back on track and keep the staff fresh for the playoffs.

I think Ben C. and Theo take a guy like Turang. But Dave Dombrowski seems to have a history of predominantly drafting college pitchers, especially RH pitchers. The Sox have been said to really really like Logan Gilbert, but there's a good chance he is gone by the time he falls to the Sox. With the system Baren, and the MLB team in win now mode I wonder if the Sox go heavy in the college department and try to draft some guys who can reach the majors quicker.

Theres a lot of talk that the Sox will take Turang if he is there, but there's also a ton of talk connecting him to NY too. The Sox are also connected to a 1B/OF prospect named Seth Beer. Not much of an athlete, and probably will stay at 1B as a pro so that rules out 1/2 the teams but supposedly he can hit. He should make it on having a cool name alone.

If the league is fixed, how come we never hear about this from the owners? If I was a billionaire team owner who saw my team lose because they are not Golden State or whoever you bet your ass I'd be vocal about it. Also, I'm not much of a conspiracy theory guy. Back when I use to judge boxing matches I remember the one thing you never want to see is an equal match, because 100% of the time whatever call you make the otherside accuses you of being "biased" or "blind" and I believe I've been called an effing AH a few times too. When everything else is even, both sides always think they win. Now when you break things down play by play, there are a bunch of missed calls in every single game. How often does an umpire make a bad strike or ball call? 99% of the time, if you stepped back and took an ubiased look at it you'd end up seeing that they're making bad calls for both sides. I'm pretty sick of Golden State/Cleveland myself.....but it will be nice to see Lebron lose for a 3rd time in a row.

They had Vasquez and Leon both playing well, and they thought Swiharts bat was too good to give up so they gave him reps elsewhere. Swihart was still developing but he was a top 25 prospect in all of baseball at one point for a reason. I think the Sox screwed up his development, but lets hope the book isn't closed on him just yet.

I don't buy it, then why even start the season with him? It obviously came down to the money but it couldn't all be about the money. Because if it was all about the money and not the slump then why not let him play it out and then release him when he gets closer? Makes zero sense, this was about his play. And yes, the leash was much shorter because of the 22 million, that seems like the most logical explanation to me.

On a brighter note, the MLB team is really really good.

I posted this on another forum pre season about the Sox system. Not the prospect who could make the biggest jump, but the one prospect who could really make the biggest impact in our system if he did, I thought that guy was Chatham. He was the #1 ranked SS in the draft and we got him. It was a weird year though were there weren't really any top ranked college SS in the draft at all but you never know. We got Pedroia with a 2nd round pick. It would be nice to strike gold again with an up the middle college player in the 2nd round.

any one of these guys could have a 3 hit night and skyrocket past the other one right now. Sox should have given Blake more developmental time behind the plate, he'd have a golden opportunity right now.

No it's not, but the kid is a projected lottery pick for a reason. He's also 7'1 with a 7'10 wingspan. You just can't teach that. He would instantly be a rebounding blocking machine in the NBA. His only caveat is his offensive game isn't as developed as his defensive game. But the Celtics don't need scorers with Kyrie and Hayward coming back. Bamba can also shoot the 3 which is unique for abig man like him. He resembles Joel Emblid in many ways. But the narrative in here that Bamba is a smokescreen is very plausible, Danny Ainge is very good at not showing his hand. But I'd love me some Bamba.

the 22 Million was obviously a HUGE part of this and definitely central to the decision....but no way they DFA him if he was still raking. Why? that would literally make no sense, and even if plausible why not wait another 200 PAs? the 22 Million become 100% relevant the moment he started to slump. At that point, the Sox decided they likely weren't getting much more out of Hanley, his 22 million could be better spent next year, and the roster spot could go towards a kid who still has talent in a system devoid of it.

JBJ is an elite defender at an elite position, and as bad as his numbers are I think he can hit and will in streaks. You need your offense to be consistent as a whole but you can live with a guy like JBJ in the bottom of your order and ride the offensive waves. You can't have a whole team of those guys, but I'm fine with JBJ on this team now, and into the future.

this is literally the most disappointing season for Sox prospect watching I've ever seen in my lifetime. The system is empty.

Bogaerts is going to get paid in FA. If his injury really damped his numbers last year and he is the guy he is this year next....He's easily going to get 25 million a year. If you could extend him now at 20 per annum, then I'd jump all over that. If not, trade him for prospects and sign Machado.....but I'm crazy.

The conclusions I see in here are disturbing and I'm glad many of you are NOT the G.M. For what's worth I'd probably ruin this team too. Correlation without causation. People assume that because the team is playing great now that guys like Pedey and Bogaerts would add nothing too it is just ludicrous. Guys will have peaks and valleys and as the season goes on having more talent will help push this team into the playoffs.

I think that is a little unfair. 2017 draftees mostly have a couple weeks of sample sizes right now and the 2016 draft was all about Groome. As weak as our system is, I still think Groome has a lot of potential with a high ceiling. However, he does have a long way to go. A lot of the picks from our 2016 draft are also already gone, Guys like Anderson and Nogosek left to bring in Nunez and Reed. Others like CJ Chatham, Dalbec, and Shawaryn have showed potential too. Chatham lost some time recovering from an injury but he's off to a hot start and Dalbec has the best raw power in our system. Yes, those guys are far off and not big candidates to be stars but how many teams end up drafting more than one high ceiling prospect who puts himself in that stratosphere every year? and like I said that draft was all about Groome. The 2017 draft is just ridiculously too soon to even talk about. Also, I think drafts are more of an indictment on a team and it's scouting department than a G.M. although I think a G.M. probably does have his hands all over the first round pick. So lets see what Groome and Houck do. Houck who was drafted in 2017 doesn't even have 11 innings yet this year.
