  1. Their usage of Houck has been funny, as has his pitch mix been. All the opposite of a guy you’re throwing in your rotation. I don’t think we see Houck in a non relief role unless he’s piggybacking or being followed.
  2. I think Houck will be a great asset out of the pen, he might piggy back and throw some long relief too. I can see them throwing Houck out behind Sale when comes back.
  3. We shall see, everyone has changed their board several times the past few months. Jordan Lawlar was flown to Pittsburgh to meet with the team just two days ago. I think he’s still very much in play for pick #1.
  4. If you’re more likely to stick at SS you’re more likely to go higher in the draft, which explains those results. If you’re a HS shortstop who scouts think will move to Corner OF you’re probably moving to the later rounds. Maybe late 1st early 2nd if teams really think you can hit.
  5. Interesting, I think another good exercise would be to look up/down MLB rosters and see what position all the position players played in HS. That would be less work than looking at all 40 rounds, opposed to 1. Regardless, Bogaerts isn’t going to influence the decision of Lawlar VS. Rocker or Mayer VS. Leiter. They will take BPA
  6. Here’s my top 6 mock. Final addition. Lawlar Leiter Mayer Davis House Watson
  7. There’s a draft thread under the “Red Sox minor league” section
  8. Maybe at an earlier date he would have taken money like that, probably less years and with opt-outs, but it likely would have retained him here for maybe one more year. By the time they traded him he was a year away from FA, not getting arb years bought out, I'd expect the dollar value needed to retain Mookie is equivalent to what he signed with LA.
  9. That's very interesting, I wonder what the details were? I'd imagine the contract would have been filled with opt-outs, like Bogaerts is. And, at the end of the day, he DIDN'T accept that extension.
  10. I'd be willing to place a gentlemans wager that theres no way Duran plays CF in Boston this year as long as either Verdugo or Kike are in the lineup. Verdugo is a much better fielder than Duran is right now.
  11. It's really nice to see Groome turn things around. I think he can even be better than he's showing right now. I remember in one of his games I think he walked a couple of guys consecutively and the last one of 4 straight pitches, the pitching coach came out to the mound and he immediately locked it down struck a few guys out, and got out of the inning. That suggests the struggles he does have are fixable, and that's a good sign. He's still a young arm learning how to pitch. I'm not saying he's not tradeable, but I think we can hold this stock a little longer and sell higher (or develop him).
  12. I believe I heard this on the BA podcast months ago but there were some rumblings that Mookie Betts didn’t want to resign here and was set on reaching FA. So I think that’s a fair argument
  13. I think it’s the opposite. The Rangers or Tigers would be fools to not call his bluff if they believe he’s the best player available there.
  14. You hit the nail on the head. We don’t know how well Duran might pan out in the majors but you take a prospect with his pedigree and turn him into a bench guy.
  15. Well I think it’s fair to say my prediction of a Duran call up on July was wrong. This may partially be due to how well the team is playing, particularly Santana who was hitting really well the past week. Although his 0-5 last night brought him down to .267/.313/.400, which is not bad but not great. I also factored in the Sox history of bringing guys up during west coast trips as precedent, which made the trip out Oakland an attractive guess.
  16. I don't think drafting Mayer and Lawlar has any influence on the future of Bogaerts and Devers. When talking about those guys you're effectively talking about drafting highschool age hitters. Many Highschoolers who are drafted are shortstops because that's where teams put their best player, they could easily end up almost anywhere else on the diamond.
  17. I have no doubt Chris Sale will be back and pitch this year. The question becomes is he 100%? or is he 80%? If he is 100% what type of workload can we expect in October?
  18. The problem with Chris Sale coming back is he has to be ramped up slowly and his workload is going to be limited, he had Tommy John surgery and hasn't even begun a rehab assignment yet. He truly is an X factor, I don't think it's not plausible he can help this team in October but that's also asking a lot right now. We just don't know how long it's going to take and even if he's elite again will he be ready to handle the workload on his arm?
  19. True, but I do think this year is unique in that there are not any clear-cut top tier guys at the top. I think this is more of a testament that the top 6-8 guys in the draft are all viewed very similarly in terms of the ceiling.
  20. A lot of guys are, almost everyone in the top 8 has been mocked #1 at some point recently.
  21. Devers is fine at 3B, I don't know what his problems were early in the season, but after the first month, he's looked good over there.
  22. Yeah, I'd love to get Leiter in our system too. I'd be very happy with one of the top hitters in this class, especially Lawlar or Mayer.
  23. "4. Red Sox: Henry Davis, C, Louisville The names here continue to be Davis, the top college bat in the country, Lawlar, Watson and Rocker, of those who weren’t taken in the top three of this mock" So the Sox are pretty much in on everyone not named House in that top tier of 8 guys.
  24. Latest Mock Draft from Mayo: Pirates - Marcelo Mayer Rangers - Jack Leiter Tigers - Jackson Jobe Red Sox - Henry Davis Orioles - Kahlil Watson D-Backs - Jordan Lawlar Royals - Kumar Rocker Rockies - Brady House. So much Fluidity between those 8 guys. I think that's very likely your top 8. The actual order on the draft day might be a little different but that's the top teir.
