At this point you’re just complaining about everything and anything to complain about everything and anything. It’s pretty standard to put players on the trading block on display, and when they perform their stock can go up. Has JDMs value gone up today? It certainly hasn’t gone down.

Now that’s ultimately cherry picking, and narrowing in my argument. That’s a months worth of baseball, great teams get off to poor starts all the time. Sox started to play excellent in June before they got hit with the injury bug. So yes, you can blame it on injuries partially, but be fair to my OP in which I also credited the teams performance to player underperformance. Aside from Devers, I believe every regular is having a career worse or at least a below average career year. But still, that team got hot before the injuries started piling up and they became an AAA team. That’s been the season so far in a nutshell

JD has a .813 OPS this year, that’s well above average, he’s still a good hitter. Yes, not as elite in years past but there’s probably a lot of teams that believe he will be at least the .800 guy down the stretch with a chance of getting hot. That’s a sought after commodity at the deadline, not going to fetch a teams top prospect but there are going to be teams willing to give up some talent for that.

Those are just the facts

At what point is something excuses or reasons? Which is fair? The Sox have been playing games and fielding teams where they have more guys who started the year in AAA and less guys who are MLBers. All teams deal with injuries, and the better systems have depth, or can trade to fill in the gaps, but almost no one can account for losing as much as the Sox have. Is that Blooms fault? Or JH or Cora’s? IDK, maybe, that’s not what I’m here for. But let’s try to imagine for second this team with a reasonable bill of health right now. That team probably commands the first WC spot right now. Anyones AAA team would get crushed against MLB teams

That’s also a great argument for how bad this team would still be even if they kept him.

I suspect he gets challenged at some point and has to make an adjustment, and that may take some time. I suspect his development will slow down at some point, and don’t think he’s an option to this team until 2025 for that reason (maybe mid season 2024). The thing I like about Rafeala, is he has a high floor, I think it’s very plausible he doesn’t make anything more than modest adjustments but he becomes a super utility player. Not the sexiest profile, but you need those guys on your roster too.

I think it’s important to put things into perspective as well. This is effectively Blooms 3rd season with the Sox. 2020 - he walked into a train wreck, even if they kept Price they were down 3 starting pitchers with no depth. They were also starring down a 1/3 of a season that wasn’t even guaranteed to have a post season so I think all and every GM in baseball would have sold off assets in that position. 2021 - the depth he added largely contributed to a team that was two wins away from a WS. We can debate this all day, how much of the team was his and how lucky they were (all valid points) but I’d also like to point out that as the naysayers say he’s the GM and responsible for the product on the field. If that’s true in bad times it’s also true in the good times. 2022 - it gets a little hard to defend Bloom here, but people are acting like his entire track record is horrible because if one bad season. The Mookie trade didn’t cause 1/2 the team to underperform and over $100 million per annum in assets to go on the DL. You read that right, the Sox have over $100 million In per annual money sitting on the sidelines right now. The Sox have three rookies in their rotation right now and there best hitter on the DL, add in a power outage from Bogaerts, regression from Dalbec and they’ve dug a hole that would be too big for anyone to overcome. It’s not an excuse, it’s just a reality. Bloom didn’t put Sale and 1/2 the team on the DL. He has more payroll flexibility, and a much deeper farm to pull and trade from heading into 2023, I fully expect this team to recover, and I’d they don’t I might be ready to jump on the fire Bloom bandwagon, but right now it’s premature and IMO very shortsighted. It’s a projection of one’s own despair of their favorite team being bad. It’s what it’s I suppose.

Lol, I don’t even know why Im lowering myself here but I’ll bite. Duran is the 3rd MAYBE 2nd guy in a 3-4 prospect package to get you an ACE last spring, now maybe he’s the 4th guy. Let’s go by real world examples and not sports talk. Talk is easy, talk is cheap. When did a guy of Durans prospect ranking every headline a trade for a 1A starting pitcher? I gave you a specific real world example of a pitcher the likes of your desired caliber commanding a MUCH higher cost, I expect the same in return. Again…..I’ll wait but not expecting much.

Two of them being ranked much higher than Duran and one of them being ranked #1 overall. That would be Kopech and Moncada. I checked my work…..now show me yours.

People always complain about the Sox not "splurging" yet can never reconcile those complaints with them being top spenders. Every. Single. Year. And how many rings does John Henry have compared to his counterparts during his tenure as owner of the Sox? I'll wait. EDIT: this is not a defense of anyone or anything or any particular move. It's just a reminder to look at the big picture.

I think they'd have to work the trade market this offseason, and they should have the ammunition to do it. Especially if they become sellers and trade guys like Eovaldi and JD.

Trades like that are almost impossible to value because you only had Mookie for one more year, everything he's doing now is OFF of his cost-controlled years. Now I get the rebuttal there is "well we could have resigned him". Well, maybe but it's more probable than not that they wouldn't. Still, the money that gets spent elsewhere is almost impossible to quantify. You could tie in Mookie money to almost any transaction going forward for the next few years.

If the last decade has taught us anything it's how quickly you can turn an organization around. The Sox have the money, and the system to do so. I have zero problem with them selling off assets that are of the expiring contract kind. Yes, they will get a bunch of shiny prospects that many hate because they're just prospects. But remember, you don't have to develop every single one and live with their adjustment periods at the MLB level, you can trade them for MLB capable players. With the money coming off the books this year, I fully expect the Red Sox to rebuild this team this offseason. Next year, this will truly be Blooms team.

I've never been one to get all hot and bothered and judge things in a vacuum. People who blame for this teams woes, where were they when this team was 2 games away from a world series last year? The team is with it's flaws, and is largely underperforming (last year they overperformed). I think a lot of the finger-pointing at Bloom and calling him a bad G.M. is extremely short-sighted but I will say this, he lost the Renfroe/JBJ trade. And that's ok, no one is going to win every trade. One of my reasonings for justifying the trade was the fact that Renfroe had a career year last year.......well......he's having an even better year this year. Yes, these prospects could amount to something and turn the tables and you can't judge a G.M. by one trade but as of right now it's looking like bad move.

I don't think this is true, or fair. He's a business man, and a better product leads to better revenue. The larger scheme of things suggests the Sox are fine. Ever since the "CURSE" was broken the Sox have done just fine in reinventing themselves. How many times have we taken a step back for a year or two only to come roaring back to a WS title? 2007 maybe, but certainly in 2013 and 2018...So it's settled. 2023 is our year. As a matter of fact, the more we suck the rest of the way the more convinced I am. Kidding, kinda not really.

The Sox level of play, plus his own injuries have probably pushed back the arrival of one named Casas in Boston. Mine as well let him eclipse the service time next year, show up more ready, and get that extra draft pick for finishing atop the ROY voting.
