  1. Also there is this. "Disclaimer: This Future Projected Rosters page is NOT intended to reflect our actual roster projections for future years. These rosters only include players who are under team control for the respective future seasons, and do not account for trades, free agent signings, re-signings, future draft picks, or other acquisitions. These projections only include players under team control for future years (even if in some cases that control is subject to a player option). This page will be updated on a monthly basis."
  2. Mondesi is an exciting player, not a superstar but he will add a lot of value......for a few weeks. Jokes aside, it's a low risk high-reward gamble BUT what is your plan if he goes down? because given his history that is a massive concern.
  3. A small market team that doesn't plan on contending could trade for Barnes, in the hopes that he has trade value at the deadline this year. Sox would probably have to eat most of his salary.
  4. Hope seems like an effective strategy for this team at this point. Maybe they hope he stays healthy long enough for Story to return. If healthy, Mondesi is a great pick up for this team, even if it's only for the first half of the season. This feels like a tall task given his history, but they gave up Josh Taylor for him....so whatevs.
  5. Does anybody here really have any ideal what his "market" was??? The narrative that the Sox grossly overpaid for him appears to be purely conjecture. In reality, an agent would never leak that kind of information, if anything they would make it seem like other teams were out there bidding up with them. If they get the reputation of blowing smoke at GM's and grossly overstating other offers they'd lose the trust of those front offices. People can say what they want about the John Henrys and the Scott Boras of the world but there is an unspoke business language they all generally follow. From what I've heard, teams often have a general ideal of what other teams are involved in and what they are willing to spend. But no one really knows. If Yoshida is as good as they say he can be here, he would have got double in this market.
  6. Also, after losing a series to the Yankees, they beat them in the WC game so whatever.
  7. No, they wanted Story at SS and to extend Bogey. Just because they royally screwed up bringing Bogey back doesn't mean they didn't want him.
  8. I don't think this is a team that will be playing in October, maybe they compete for a WC if a lot breaks right. But I'd take the over on 78 wins. I'd run to Vegas on that.
  9. I'm not saying this a great team, but I'd be willing to bet they win more games than they did in 2022.
  10. If we are going to critisize not trading guys in hindsight, we shouldn't be critical when guys are traded mid season from a team thats' fighting for .500 Heres a reason to be optimistic on Duvall, who at times had been a pretty darn good player. His value, and offense took a big hit the last two years as his offense was ZAPPED by a wrist injury. We all know how a wrist injury can affect you long-term. David Ortiz came back from one and had a whole sub .800 OPS season and looked like he was falling off a cliff then proceeded to have 7 great seasons afterward. Now I'm by not saying he's going to do that but a full season recovered from a wrist injury should yield much better offensive production. Even last year, as the year went on and he was further removed from his inury his offensive gradually went up. .565 .494 .864 .976 If he can provide average to better defense in the outfield with an ops north of .800 and Kike can stay healthy at 2B. Then Duval/Kike might give you just as much value as Kike/Story. We still need a short stop (or a 2nB)
  11. Unfortunately I think they are the only one. If Yoshida was a top 100 on another outlet the Sox would be eligible for draft picks depending on how well Yoshida does in the ROY voting. Oh well, they still have Casas.
  12. Yes, but they could have got under at the deadline if they wanted too. I don’t want to say they went for it but they didn’t give up either. They also didn’t need to reset last year, there’s more pressure to do so. I’m also not saying they definitely will, only that if they did go over and Chose to get under at the deadline….moving those contracts are your best options.
  13. Yes, Barnes is perfect for my list. I can’t believe I omitted him. I’m not saying we trade ANY of these guys but under certain circumstances it makes sense to move them, and they’re guys you can move to save you money. Devers is omitted. Let’s take Barnes for example. Let’s say he has a good season and is looking like his old self. You can move him for a return and clear out a decent amount of money. If the team is doing poorly this makes perfect sense. It doesn’t make as much sense of you’re in contention, unless the bullpen is VERY good and stocked this year and you can trade Barnes for something you need.
  14. Im not saying we should, he’s just movable, and clears money.
  15. How much over were we last year?
  16. If the Red Sox wanted to dump salary before the season, or mid-season, some great trade candidates would be Ryan Braiser Alex Verdugo Nick Pivetta
  17. I was going with @redsoxpayroll on twitter who updated their number yesterday. You have to factor in promotions increasing that number too, Sox don't have much left to spend at all.
  18. Sox have about 11 million left to spend before hitting the luxury tax. Now with the incentives in Duvalls deal that could potentially be 8 million (less with other incentives? not sure if they are included in the projected payroll of $221.88 MM). I'm not sure they can sign a guy like Andrus or Iggy unless they're getting them on a 5 million dollar AAV. Maybe that happens, maybe a trade is still in the works.
  19. I don't see Hamilton ever starting either, which is why I see another move coming. Arroyo/Valdez should be your guys to step up if Kike/Signing goes down.
  20. I think Verdugo is a candidate to have a much better season in 2023, which Boston pretty much needs to have a successful season (on top of many other things breaking right). I wonder if Duvall can bounce back too, a wrist injury zapped his offensive production and in the past, it has felt like it takes a guy a full season to really get his offense back after that. I'm pretty sure Duvall is banking on that too, I would have loved to see a second-year team option on that contract, but it's fine for 1 year and 1 WAR. Good deal on it's own, but one that was necessary because of a botched offseason.
  21. I'm wondering if they can still sign someone like Andrus now, and play Kike at 2nd. A trade could still be in the works too. I just have a really hard time seeing Arroyo/Valdez at 2nd. Arroyo could be good there but for how long? You could easily see David Hamilton SS (if there's no other moves to this roster) starting games in 2023....I'm not sure how I feel about that.
  22. Sox are about to sign free agent Adam Duvall. They view him as an outfielder. Very meh, but what would one expect at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if he lays an egg or has a nice bounce back .800+ ops season.
  23. I have not given up on him, but one can't deny it's not looking so great right now.
