  1. Yes, but those days are paused if he goes on the IL.
  2. I think the Phillies absolutely would have benefited from Song being able to stay on the military list, which is exactly why I didn't buy the whole "Philly could have contacted someone at the DoD and gotten the heads up" conspiracy theory. I still think DD is going a huge disservice to this kid, and I hope this is used as a case study to change the rules. Rule 5 is supposed to help players who are MLB-ready from being stuck and stashed in the minors....but for a guy like Song it could be derailing or at least further delaying an MLB career. Well that's actually not true, because he's going to play in the MLB this year, but the kid had a chance to start and he will not have the luxury of ramping up his innings on a throwing program or developing his pitches without the pressures of MLB in the minors for a few years. It would have made sense for the Sox and Songs development if they could have got another year to protect him
  3. I expect when Bello and Whitlock come back we see the end of Ort and the bullpen gets a lot better. The good news is we are going to get them both back very soon, the fear is other injuries happen....which can happen. Hopefully this team has better luck on the injury front this season. My anxiety will be high with every cringe on the field.
  4. Why are you asking me? why does any player get traded, released, dfa, not resigned? we see a lot of other reasons that don't equate to "he stinks". I don't know the answer to your question, but I do not McGuire is a plus defender, and at this point in his career entering his age 28 season he's actually put up better offensive numbers than Vasquez did up to age 28. Now that might not mean anything, but we do not Catchers are notorious for being late bloomers with the bat. McGuire doesn't have to be a plus bat. If he has a .680+ OPS with the bat and play plus defense he's fine hitting 9th. If he takes a step forward with the bat then that's amazing. Personally, I wanted to make a run at Contreras.
  5. Misery loves company I suppose, but I find joy in the hilarity of people giving up after one game. ONE, Uno, Un, Ett, Um, Odin, Moja!!!!
  6. Reese McGuire is a really good defender. He's a step up in that way. Since he's been on this team he's played better than Vaszquez.
  7. I don’t know the answer to that question, but I figured that’s why DD selected him in the first place.
  8. It was nice to see them battle back, the pitching was disappointing. If the pitching is going to be a strength, they need Bello and Whitlock back and Sake to stay healthy. Paxton still intrigues me, but 10 runs is a bad look.
  9. No, but with number 2 he can still spend time with trainers, get into a throwing program and go on a rehab assignment. That’s real development NOt at the MLB level
  10. Actually they have 15 days from now to have to add him to the 40 man, but since they put him on the 15 IL is it still 15 days? Or 15 + 15? If he rehabs back this year he would have to be out back on the 40 man at some pointzs. s*** now I’m just confused again
  11. I believe the 90 days can be accumulated next year too and at that point he can be optioned
  12. I know the rules are convoluted, and I’m not going to pretend I know them perfectly. Heck we know the sports writers don’t but I’m certain as long as he’s on the 60 day IL he does not have to be on the 40 man
  13. No actual decisions made are excerpt from critique. Go crazy.
  14. I believe when you put a guy on the 60 day you remove him from the 40 man, like we just did with Mondesi. Phillie can now retain Song without burning a 40 man spot.
  15. I think it depends on what we are talking about. Some things are more subjective than others and others not so much. An opinion, depending on the subject can be very wrong and if it's right to someone they're either crazy or they're just misinformed. Other things can NOT be taken away from us. Like, I could say Ohtani is the worse player in the league, does that make it right to me because it's my opinion? how can it be because any reasonable person would say that's wrong. My opinion is wrong. However, I can say Chicken Parm is the most delicious dish ever. That's my opinion and one no one can take away from me because it's purely up to my taste buds and no one else.
  16. In my opinion, Verdugo and Duval are going to be gold glovers this year. It's my opinion. That was a joke, everyone. To be fair, Kike's defense wasn't as spectacular in 2022 as it was in 2021, but it was in a much smaller sample size and he was battling injuries so to say it was average is still pretty good. That's fair. It's also fair to say that if given a clean bill of health we should expect him to play plus defense out there this year. I think he will.
  17. One thing is for certain, and that's this is a unique situation. I think you almost have to throw him being a starter out the window now, Philly will have to carry them on their 40 man, and if they want to compete that's a huge hole on your roster for a guy who can't help your team out right now. If he has a MLB future, hes' going to be helpful much much quicker coming out of the bullpen. Maybe he will become a good relief pitcher, with aspirations to start and come back to the Sox in free agency and become the reverse Rich Hill.
  18. eeeee arrrrrrrrr. He don't pass me eye test!!!!
  19. There's a huge difference between being 26 and doing something every day of your life, and being 26 and not doing it in 3 years. I speak as someone who has been a professional athlete and trained pro athletes for a large chunk of their life. He didn't just miss time, he missed developmental time. The time that he won't get back now because now he has to pitch in the bigs. This is bad because it really screws with the kid's development. No matter how well in shape he stayed in the military, it was not functional towards baseball, and he wasn't under the supervision of MLB pitching coaches facing live batters. He has talent, yes, talent is only half the equation. Franchy Cordero had all the talent in the world and he laid eggs without missing any time. You need development, and you NEVER truly know how a human being is going to develop. Do people really sincerely think we should have protected Noah Song? It really just boggles my mind.
  20. Three things. Your reasoning is purely anecdotal, and conjecture doesn't make you wrong. If they had an inside scoop, why didn't everyone else? I think we would of heard something. It didn't help the Phillies, their hope was to stash him on the military reserve list for the year. Now they were forced to have a kid skip up 4 levels of pro ball after not playing for over 3 years. No one wants to do that. When you consider that, it's very unlikely the Phillies had the inside scoop.
  21. Even when we signed him months back Bloom said they knew they were signing someone who was still recovering. You know how these Bloom haters are, they just make s*** up to complain about. The mind-boggling thing is there are real reasons to critique Bloom. Why not stick to the facts???
  22. Agreed, when they selected Song I believe they thought they could stash him on the military list all year
  23. I get you’re a navy guy, I was in the army myself so nothing but respect to all my fellow us service members but if really cared about song, he wouldn’t have messed with his development.
  24. I'd say Mike RiKard is the one who drafted him, with some input from Reed Gragnani. DD probably didn't know much about him until after he was drafted. Obviously, he fell in love.
