  1. Agreed, but I think teams boards can vary wildly, they’re all probably the same if close to it for the top 10-15 players. Most teams probably have the same guys in there in varying orders. But the further you go down, the more they vary. This is something I always try to remember. If the Sox pick someone at #14 who is ranked 20th that doesn’t mean they made a bad pick. It just means he was the best player left on their board while Someone else didn’t have him there. The rankings we see is just several boards, what we don’t see is the 30 boards of every team. So we don’t see the vast majority of the rankings out there.
  2. There seems to be some confusion over the difference of a bad trade vs. the decision to trade someone. Mookie Betts was my favorite player, I knew he was going to be a star when he was in Salem. We can say the decision to trade him was the worse decision in a very very long time. But that should stand alone on the return, think of it as a sunk cost. Reality is you were trading what ended up being a 1/3 of a season of Betts. Players without team control, no matter how good they are, are only going to bring back so much. Yes trading Betts was stupid, and it f***ing sucked, but the return was fine. If Betts had 2-3 years of control left I would have expected a MUCH higher return. This is how these things work.
  3. Exactly! Big decisions like that are at the ownership level. Henry traded Betts, Henry was the cheapskate
  4. Because Verdugo was under team control for 5 years and Betts 1/3. That’s how you evaluate value. That’s exactly how you do it
  5. Let’s keep the conversations about the 2023 draft, if you want to go off topic and bash Bloom let’s keep it to the “fire bloom” thread.
  6. Yes Bloom only took Mayer because he fell and anyone would have done that. Before Mayer fell Bloom was going to cut a deal with Matt McLain (which means they would have had a better draft elsewhere, still pretty good). McLain is batting .301 with and .880 OPS with plus defense in the major leagues right now. Roman Anthony he took last year and is already a top 100 prospect, the year before Mayer he took York’s #1 who is also a top 100 prospect. Look I won’t argue against the various blunders Bloom has made, but drafting isn’t one of them. Let’s get the conversation BACK about this draft
  7. No but 5 years of Verdugo is > 1/3 year off Betts. Over and over and over again.
  8. No, but guys often do, odds are at least one of those guys will stink coming back, aside from Story it’s not like any of those guys are coming off a big surgery. It’s very logical to expect those guys to improve this team. It’s totally fair however to speculate additional firepower added.
  9. Yeah, I did. I would rather sign a Yama, Giolito, Ohtani, Urias, or Nola to headline the group. With a strong preference for Nola. On top of that I wouldn’t trade him. I’d take offer the QO and take the pic. Sox could get hot down the stretch.
  10. Sox have a horrible record of drafting pitching in the first round too
  11. Bloom was rumored to be picking Matt McLain and sign him to an under slot deal. Obviously things changed when Mayer fell. McLain fell to #17 currently sporting a .880 OPS and plus defense at SS at the MLB level in Cincinnati. I don’t think anyone would have complained about that. This is the draft class where the high schoolers who didn’t get drafted because of Covid are eligible in the draft. This will be the deepest college class in the draft ever. Position players are 5x safer. I have zero problem going way later in the rounds in pitching. If you have the right scouts and department developing them, that’s a wining strategy. If your first pick busts, it can really blow up your draft.
  12. As bad as Bloom has been, his ONE strength has been his drafting. Also, if you look at pretty much every mock draft out there, there’s almost no pitching talent around where the Sox are pitching. This is one of the most position heavy drafts we’ve seen in a very very long time
  13. It’s been rumored the Sox are going to go under slot at #14 and cut a deal. Names being thrown around Tai Peete Colt Emerson
  14. Weei they’re talking about not trading Paxton and signing him to help with this young rotation. I could not disagree more. I’m all for keeping Paxton if the Sox want to stay in it. I’d rather try to make a run this year and just offer him a QO
  15. Every year I’ve followed Sox prospects they have had most of the Sox top picks listed as probables. So this list should give us an ideal of who they may target. http://news.soxprospects.com/2023/07/2023draft.html?m=1
  16. Today is draft day, picks 1-70. I know not all fans are interested in amateur ball and the big wide world of prospectadum and that’s ok, to each their own! I don’t expect this thread to live long. But we can discuss draft talk here and for those interested in getting to know our picks we can post scouting reports from results as well.
  17. Next year, yes
  18. FYI This is the guy I’ve been talking up here for a while. I think the Sox need to be heavily invested in Yama.
  19. Keep Rafaela, kid has JBJ defensive potential and can do it in CF and SS. Mats needs to love to the pen. Keep the farm, this is supposed to be “sustainable growth”. Go buy an ACE to lead Bello/Whitlock/Houck, if Sale is healthy great.
  20. When is Cora going to learn nothing good ever comes with Kike at SS. He belongs at 2nd and CF and that’s it
  21. Right right right. All I said is Kike has a much more extensive record hitting in the playoffs than just 2021 like you said. Don’t get it twisted brotha!!!
  22. It was a very short sample size before he got hurt but Chang really seems to set the defense right on this team. Almost makes me want Story to come back and stay at 2nd
  23. It was a very short sample size before he got hurt but Chang really seems to set the defense right on this team.
  24. It wasn’t just 2021, he’s a career .900 ops playoff batter over 16 series and 200 PAs. He’s consistently performed in the playoffs. And he’s a career BWar 16 player. Sure he sucks now and might be gone soon one way or another. But he was a good player and you’ve never liked him even when he was
  25. Kike seems to perform better at 2nd, even with the bat. We are going to find out shortly if that’s the case. At least with Chang back he will not touch short, or at least shouldn’t. It will be interesting to see what happens when Story is back. Kikes tenure in Boston might not last to the end of this season
