  1. The Sox were off Thursday. Jansen threw 22 pitches on Friday. Assuming he was healthy, there was no good reason not to use him yesterday. The Monday morning quarterbacks always have a high completion percentage. Now if Cora were to use him again tonight, there would very valid criticism. But I very much doubt he would use him tonight. In fact , he may rest him a couple or three games. I am not the biggest Cora fan , but I can't fault him here. It was the standard book move.
  2. Closing a game is never the easiest job. The pressure is on . Everything is amped up in the ninth inning. The pitcher knows it, the hitters know it, the catcher knows it, the managers know it, the fans know it, the announcers know it. Everyone knows it. The peanut vendor knows it. Everyone except you.
  3. It is May 14. We are not in the heat of a pennant race at this time. The standings updates and wild card chase is extremely premature. Let the season play out a little bit.
  4. Closing ain't easy. Jansen is one of the best closers in the history of closers. You don't get 400 saves unless you are very good for a long time. It's baseball. There are always going to be some bumps in the road. Don't overreact to everything.
  5. The Sox offense can be described as relentless. I don't care who they are facing, they will score runs.
  6. Mixed feelings about the rule changes. Good to see the pace of the game being quicker, but maybe it was sped up a little too much. Especially if it is contributing to injuries. I like stolen bases, but maybe it has become a little too easy. Cheapens it. The shift rule is okay. It certainly seems to help the left-handed hitters in particular. I despise the " ghost runner " and not too crazy about having three wild cards.
  7. Nobody overreacts like baseball fans overreact. Whether it's positive or negative , either way.
  8. Toronto has a few sluggers who can bludgeon a pitching staff. But if you watch them play enough , you see that they just don't play good , fundamental baseball. And that is what holds them back.
  9. The Sox lineup has been putting up some terrific at bats up and down the order. You get the feeling they are going to score every inning. It might be time to give some love to batting coach Pete Fatse.
  10. My uncle Paddy was a clutch player in his day. But he used to ******** about his accomplishments so much that none of us really believed him. Sound familiar ?
  11. The Yankees also made a mistake in recent years by becoming too right handed. The formidable Yankee teams of the past always had more balance in the lineup , with plenty of left handed pop.
  12. No. This is a different Logan Allen. The Logan Allen we traded flopped and is somewhere in the Colorado organization now.
  13. Although it's been said many times, many ways, a baseball season is a marathon not a sprint. But still we forget.
  14. Well, after the Flop at the Trop , it will be interesting to see if the Sox can rebound on this seven game home stand against the Angels and Twins , two decent but beatable teams.
  15. Under Dombrowski, the Sox played good, exciting baseball. Under Bloom, they do not. All of the B.S. in the world does not change that plain and simple fact.
  16. Look at the 2018 championship roster. Then look at the roster today. The difference is significant to say the least. This roster is heavy with ham and eggers or outright jabronis. And the results show it.
  17. To this day, I don't know why Dombrowski was fired. Chaim Bloom took over a very talented team that needed pitching , especially in the bullpen. He has systematically dismantled that team and rebuilt it his way. The results have not been good. And that is putting it mildly.
  18. Just to make the cheese a little more binding, Xander Bogaerts is batting .333 , with four home runs and an OPS of over 1.000.
  19. Reminds me of the Norm Macdonald joke on cliff diving: There are only two results in cliff diving; Grand champion or stuff on a rock.
  20. As human beings, we all have weaknesses and shortcomings. Alex Cora is certainly no exception. Be careful about putting anyone on a pedestal. You will usually be disappointed.
  21. It gives Yankee fans a chance to make the coffee and jokes for a while. We have about run out of them.
  22. The first game of the year always seems to be more important than it really is. Whether by chance or by design , MLB has given the Sox a pretty soft schedule to start the season. The Pirates and Tigers are among the weakest in MLB. The Sox should be in good shape after the coming week . Last season , competing against the good teams was the problem. Have to do better in that area this year.
  23. Five key players for the upcoming Bosox season: Devers - Superstar with the big contract needs to live up to it. Sale- Needs to stay healthy and be the ace and leader of the pitching staff. Jansen - Needs to be the closer we have been lacking for four years and become the bell cow of an improved bullpen. Casas - Hot shot rookie needs to live up to , or exceed, expectations. Yoshida - The X factor. Needs to show that his abilities translate to MLB. If these five things fall into place, it could be a very interesting season. If they don't, look out below.
  24. The injuries were unfortunate, but I do think that the WBC is exciting and definitely good for baseball. The championship game was terrific. I do have to say that the runs that Japan scored were off of pitchers who are just a notch above the ham and egger category. Not even close to our best.
