  1. It is sometimes hard to tell when Max is serious and when he is just trying to get a reaction. Jansen has an 88 % career save percentage . As far as I can tell, there are only three closers in history with a better percentage. But it is hard to please everybody.
  2. You know a guy is great when people always remember the few times he wasn't. Jansen is one of the best of all time.
  3. Yankee fans didn't realize that Volpe's drive hooked foul. They were celebrating prematurely.
  4. Without Judge, the Yankee lineup does not look very impressive.
  5. Jabronis for $40.00 , Alex
  6. Too much analysis. It's baseball. There are no major upsets in any single game. No bookie in the country will ever give long odds on an MLB game. This is not Alabama vs Kent St. football. Too many variables. In the long run, the good teams will win more than the jabronis.
  7. The mood swings are getting out of control here. There should be some excitement with a weekend series in the boogie down Bronx. Hold off on the despair for a little while longer. The Yankees are vulnerable without Aaron Judge in the lineup. And their pitching is really banged up. Let's see how this weekend goes.
  8. Verdugo benched for not hustling last night. Looks like Cora is losing patience with these guys.
  9. Kind of ironic that the " Money Ball " team, the low rollers, the small time Charlies now want to move to Vegas.
  10. Five years ago , the Sox had a truly great team. One by one, they dismantled it and brought in replacements. They decided to go in a different direction and said as much. So far , that is not working out very well. Too many mistakes were made. Hopefully, things will get better before too long.
  11. Henry seems to have developed a disconnect with the ballclub. Don't see or hear much from him .
  12. There are an awful lot of empty seats at Fenway lately. Looks like quite a bit fewer fans than the announced attendance. Must be a lot of no-shows. Despite it all, I don't see any shake up coming any time soon. Bloom's and Cora's jobs seem safe for now.
  13. Although the Sox are settling a little deeper into the A.L. East basement , there is still plenty of season left. I don't think it is time to jump in the lifeboats just yet. Look around MLB .There are a few good teams that have not hit their stride as yet , most notably the Padres. It just takes one hot streak to turn things around. Much too soon to give up.
  14. Somebody posted that wild, blundering Sox play yesterday up on YouTube , set to the old Benny Hill music. As aggravating as it was to watch, it really is pretty funny with that music.
  15. John Henry has Bloom helping clean up the hot dog wrappers and peanut shells in the stands between games.
  16. The Red Sox could sell for five billion dollars. This is at least in part due to the loyal fanbase. But you can't keep alienating them by raising prices and cutting the budget. The luxury tax was the owner's idea. They should not use it as an excuse now. Sox Nation is showing their discontent. And this is not just a problem in Boston. MLB in general is constantly looking for ways to bleed more and more money from the fans.
  17. Judging talent is a big part of the G.M.'s job. There are always going to be some hits and some misses. But the G.M. has to be accountable for the product on the field.
  18. Six shutout innings, one hit , seven strikeouts. Could have went further if needed, but a Texas blowout. Also, not too much mocking Seager's contract lately. The Rangers are looking pretty good.
  19. Very poor baseball by the Olde Towne Team . Straight home, boys. No pizza or ice cream today.
  20. With Casas struggling and Dalbec tearing it up in AAA , doesn't it seem like an obvious move to option Tristan and promote Bobby for one more look ?
  21. Nathan Eovaldi is from Texas. Nolan Ryan is his role model. So, it is very possible that he preferred playing there. Wacha has an injury history and apparently some of his metrics did not match up with his won - loss record and ERA. J.D. did seem to be declining. The Mookie and Bogaerts situations have been beaten to death. And so on and so forth. You can try to justify and spin every single move. Here is the problem: The Red Sox have spent far too much time in the cellar since Bloom took over the reins. This is not acceptable to many of us . We want it to change.
  22. Koji was a very underrated pitcher for much of his career. He finally got recognition in 2013 , but he was always very good. Kimbrel and Jansen have kind of had parallel careers , with both reaching the 400 save milestone this season. It could be a long time, if ever, until someone else does that. Chapman is closest , but seems to be stalled. Edwin Diaz , of the Mets, might have the best chance . He is 29 , with 205 saves . He is currently on the 60 day I.L.
  23. J.D. Martinez : 13 year MLB career. .288 batting average. Almost 300 home runs. .875 career OPS. 5 time All Star. But he can't hit the slider ???
  24. One thing that always bothers me is how some folks seem to hope that former Sox players struggle. Even guys that helped win championships in Boston. Does that actually make you feel better about things? I see it even with a Sox icon like Mookie, so no surprise that it happens with J.D., Bogaerts and others. Why do that?
