  1. Without Aaron Judge, the Yankees flaws are very apparent. There are quite a few , but the most glaring is Stanton. As strong as he is , with all that power, he looks absolutely lost at the plate. With all respect, he resembles a Little Leaguer who is afraid of the ball.
  2. Sox pummel the Yankees. Not to worry though. We can still complain about Kluber.
  3. Athletes, like everyone else, have to be evaluated in the era they lived/played. Times change. It is generally said that today's athletes are bigger , stronger and faster. For a number of reasons , that is mostly true. But they are not necessarily always better. It is not really possible or fair to compare athletes from different eras. I think a Muhammad Ali would make today's heavyweight giants look like bumbling fools in the ring. But we will never know.
  4. It seems that sometimes the wrong guy gets credit for the win. Some pitchers seem to get more run support than others. When you see a starter with a good won/loss record and a high ERA or vice versa , you might need to look deeper. I know all the talking points both pro and con. I am not going to debate them now. After all is said and done , I don't think a pitcher's won/loss record is entirely meaningless. Winning is , after all, the object of the game. But the " ghost runner " is an abomination meant only to try and get the game over with quickly.
  5. The value of won/loss records for pitchers is a subject for debate. But this is such a rare occurrence that it is not relevant to that debate. The ghost runner rule is plain stupid.
  6. The jury is still out on the Red Sox. But the Judge is still out on the Yankees. Beat them in New York . Beat them in Boston.
  7. I think we should get back on track here. We have seen where these kinds of things can lead.
  8. Yes. I absolutely think it comes from the front offices as team policy. They probably have done studies that show that it is beneficial in the long run. So, I can't blame Cora for it. I do think it is somewhat unfair to the paying customers, however.
  9. I would take a shot if I could find anyone dumb enough to take the Rockies straight up tonight.
  10. Are these days off for players really the manager's decision? Or are they being dictated by the front office?
  11. I honestly don't see how the Sox can lose tonight. Whitlock has been pitching well lately and Austin Gomber is truly awful. No sure things in baseball , but this game is about as close as you can get. Look for the offense to come alive against Gomber and put this one away early.
  12. When the food is consistently bad , it might be time to replace the chef.
  13. MLB cheapens the regular season with gimmicks like three wild cards. It is all about bleeding more and more money from the fans. That being the case, you still have to go for it. The playoffs are definitely a crapshoot. The wild card teams all have a legitimate chance at the brass ring.
  14. Everyone reaches the end of the line sooner or later. Always have memories of so many great plays he made in centerfield.
  15. It's the computer age, so folks are always going to be coming up with new stats/metrics to try and analyze everything. And many people do get much of their enjoyment of baseball in this way. The ballpark atmosphere is quite different. There, batting average, home runs and rbis are still in vogue. For pitchers, it is wins/losses, era and saves. There is a big difference between the ballpark experience and watching the game on TV or your tablet. Many of us now go the ballpark less and less frequently. Some don't go at all. Watching the game from home is what we do. And I think it affects how we enjoy the game and not necessarily for the better. I am personally not into all the analytics, but I do realize that they are here to stay. To each his own.
  16. Hank Aaron was a lifetime .300 hitter with more than 700 home runs. But his xfmdoowops were very mediocre.
  17. Saw something some wag posted online. Things have changed; now, Yankee fans are chanting " Yankees Suck " and Red Sox fans are chanting " Red Sox suck " .
  18. Some folks want to dismiss the 2020 season as if it never happened. The trouble is , you can't do that. As much as we wish it didn't happen , the reality is it did. The season was abbreviated for obvious reasons , but it was fair for everyone and the best team won. It probably was just as well that it wasn't longer because it was rough watching the Sox pretty much mail it in many nights.
  19. Andrus is a ham and egger. Bogaerts is a terrific player.
  20. In my opinion, David Price gets more grief on here than is warranted. In four years with Boston he was 17-9 , 3.99. - 6-3 , 3.38. - 16- 7, 3.56. and 7-5 , 4.28 . The Sox won the division three of those years. Price was a lot better than some of the jabronis the Sox have been running out there the past few years.
  21. It is getting harder and harder to justify any defense of Bloom. How much last place baseball can you abide?
  22. Sellout crowd at the Stadium last night. This is still the best rivalry in sports.
  23. A sweep is very possible. Without Judge, the Yankee offense looks pretty run of the mill.
