  1. Regarding the hamstring problem on this team : I spoke to the Sox' team physician , Dr. Vinnie Boombatz. He blamed it on social media. Said the boys need to silence their cellphones and spend more time stretching.
  2. Most of the kudos being given to Chase Adams were due to the low expectations. He did not implode. The fact is that three earned runs in five innings is nothing to write home about.
  3. Since they call it a farm system , I like to use the farm analogy . There is a time to sow and a time to reap. You can't hold on to the crop forever. You have to harvest it. Keep what you need and take the rest to market. If you can market our prospects for some of the best players in the game , you do it. More young players of that caliber , and better , are coming along all the time.
  4. Would have liked to get Britton , but I think the pen will be fine. Kimbrel needs to pitch more often. He looks kind of rusty . Command is not sharp.
  5. He lost it after a while. Everything he touched turned into a muffler.
  6. I think Cone does a good job. But the game is on Fox Sports 1 , if you want to get away from YES.
  7. Supposedly , our farm is " decimated." The Yankee farm is lush with talent. I guess that is why they are starting Chance ( 4.50 ERA in AAA) Adams today . Along with the immortal Shane Robinson in right field.
  8. There is always somebody trying to game the system.
  9. Mookie is on track to be one of the all time greats. He is a special player. Do not compare him with Machado , Altuve , Harper , etc. He is a cut above all of them , with the possible exception of Trout. You do whatever it takes to keep him. Think big. Too many fans think like small time Charlies.
  10. The third base coach has to chew out the non- hustling players. Boone hems and haws and stutters. He comes across as looking very weak. I wonder if George was still alive ; what would have been his reaction had Sonny Gray been pummeled by the Orioles , then walked off the mound to a chorus of boos with a big smile on his face ? The Yankees have problems.
  11. The Orioles just traded Machado because they knew they couldn't afford him. I checked with my local bookmaker , Paul " Needlenose " Minagge . He said the odds of Baltimore signing Mookie were so infinitesimal that no bets would be taken. No pun intended.
  12. And he will beat it easily . But it won't be with the Tigers , Orioles , White Sox , Brewers , etc.
  13. The once proud Bronx Bombers have promoted a guy with a 3-5 record and 4.50 ERA at AAA to pitch a critical game at Fenway Park. Does any more need to be said ?
  14. You are either just a contrarian or a committed small time thinker. There is only a handful of big market , big money teams in play for a guy like Betts. That should be obvious from past experience. That should not be hard to understand. I think he will remain in Boston.
  15. Of course Betts is every bit as good as you say. And if you seriously think some of those teams are possible destinations for him then you are the delusional one. There are only a handful of big market teams that are in play for players of that rare caliber.
  16. There are very few teams that will be competing to sign Betts. Very few. Boston has an excellent chance of keeping him.
  17. People tend to forget that MLB is big business , not rotisserie league baseball. Very important to consider things like the dollar value of a franchise , attendance , concession and merchandise sales , TV ratings , advertising dollars , sponsors , reputation , publicity and such. It' s not all about trying to assemble a decent team for the least amount of money.
  18. Dombrowski has put together a deep and powerful team with a first rate manager. He deserves credit for it. As for the traded prospects , they were not that good anyway. I think he actually maximized their value. There will be more coming along soon enough.
  19. The bigger mistake was made by the nervous Holder. He erred by throwing behind the runner , thus enabling Bradley to dash for home.
  20. This Sox team is a juggernaut. They could actually spot the Yankees four runs , then just roll over them. Holder looked scared to death on the Fenway mound. A sweep would put an end to the race. Don't let up now.
  21. Dombrowski had said they would go with a four man bench and twelve pitchers.
  22. A Sox sweep would pretty much put an end to the division race. Three out of four would come pretty close to it. The Yankees are reeling and ready to be put away.
  23. When Sale returns , Workman goes back down. Someone else still has to go when Devers returns. If not Velazquez , then who ? Brasier ?
  24. I think the best move would be to option Velazquez to Pawtucket. He could stay sharp and be available for recall in case of an injury . If all goes well , he is back when rosters expand , at the latest. [ A DL for Pomeranz would eliminate the need for this.]
  25. The Nats are just 5 1/2 games out , behind two young teams that could well struggle down the stretch. They are every bit as much in contention as the Yankees. I don't see why they would throw in the towel now.
