  1. The " greatest bullpen ever " . Yet Booney has to go to " Holdy " in the tenth inning of a must win game. The same " Holdy " who imploded Thursday night. With none other than little Sonny Gray throwing in the pen.
  2. In years past many , if not most , batting champions were left handed hitters. In fact , most of the all time great hitters were lefty. They had a natural advantage. The shifts of today have changed all that. They make it tougher on left hand hitters. Bradley seems to do better when they pitch him middle away. He can then use the whole field.
  3. Getting the last three outs is the toughest thing in baseball. I don't understand why people don't get that.
  4. Closing ain't easy.
  5. He might be just trying to match this game thread in craziness.
  6. " Sizzlechest . " I'm going to use that in my everyday conversation now.
  7. I get that it is not desirable to pay a lot for a closer. But you have to be careful. Closing ain't easy. Blown saves are destructive. A few weeks ago , some wanted to let Kimbrel walk and give the job to Kelly. Now that Kelly has fallen out of favor , Barnes is the man. Thornburg and Smith ? Really ? You , yourself , once suggested we could save money by using the likes of KRod and Clippard to close. That would not have worked too well. Kimbrel is one of the best of his era. Not saying we should bust the budget to sign him , but don't think that just anyone can fill that role.
  8. When you walk some stiff who is only trying to bunt , the baseball Gods get angry.
  9. Darn budget constrictions.
  10. Yankees have scored two runs in the last 22 innings. Now , our offense needs to pick it up.
  11. John Henry in the house. Accompanied by his " luxury tax."
  12. That's why they hold the runner on. They don't want him stealing second.
  13. If there is a stat that shows it is better to have a man on first than a man on second , then it is time to give up.
  14. Tony LaRussa has three rings , something you seem to value , but then who needs a Hall of Fame baseball man when you can find some computer nerd who knows much more about the game.
  15. Sox are 8 1/2 up and counting. But you have to admit that , unlike our decimated one , they have an impressive and well stocked farm system. I guess that is why , in a must win game for them , they have uber prospects Shane Robinson and Luke Voit in the lineup. Why don't we have " kids " like that ?
  16. I am sure that when a GM trades prospects he gets input from the farm director , the minor league managers and scouts. It is common for fans to overrate these kids. Maybe they are not as highly regarded in the organization as we like to think.
  17. And stolen bases are not figured into a player's OPS either. But they should be.
  18. The most obvious differences in this year's team are the home runs , stolen bases and the manager. Three things that the metrics devotees consider overrated.
  19. Seriously , the last update I heard is that he had the surgery and is out for the season.
  20. I think he is in the witness protection program. Can't be found.
  21. Not much has been said about how DD signed Cora before the Yankees had a shot at him. The Yanks wound up settling for Booney. The results speak for themselves.
  22. But some are sadly lamenting the loss of the Javier Guerras from our once ripe farm crop.
  23. We have the best team in baseball. But it is hard to please everybody.
  24. Notin , You are just a contrarian and a small time Charlie. Try to think big for once. Enjoy what you are seeing this year. Or else , stick to what you do best. Scouring the bushes for some obscure , undervalued third string catcher we can sign for depth at Pawtucket.
  25. I think Farrell had become somewhat burned out. Cora brings a more energetic , enthusiastic approach. The players can pick up on that. The results are obvious.
