  1. So far , the trade deadline has produced all of the boredom , speculation and inactivity that the free agent period did . MLB sure knows how to generate interest in the game . Looks like whatever deals are made will come right at the end .
  2. It was 41 years ago that the Yankees came in to Fenway and turned the season around by sweeping the Red Sox in what became known as the Boston Massacre . Could we be witnessing the reverse of that right now ? Very possible . Stay tuned .
  3. The basic , traditional stats are still what the average fan looks at . Not too many are into the advanced , analytical alphabet soup stats that are so prevalent these days . You won't hear a lot of talk about xyzWoba or bFip in the bleachers .
  4. The Yankees's problematic rotation is being exposed more and more . That will continue . It is simply not very good . Certainly not championship caliber .
  5. Frazier is locked in Cashman's doghouse. And I was wrong about the Yankees needing another starting pitcher . One would not be enough . Their rotation is a mess .
  6. D.D. might sign you just to quiet you .
  7. Last night was the Boston Massacre revisited. Poor Tanaka walked off the mound looking beaten , embarrassed , humiliated and possibly washed up .
  8. You should always look at a pitcher's won - lost record in conjunction with his ERA . If they are both good , you probably have a good pitcher . If one or the other is out of line , you can look for a reason why .
  9. Okay , but wins for the starters and saves for the bullpen are good things . If you are getting a lot of them , the team is probably doing well . If you are not getting a lot of them , it's not a good sign .
  10. Moving Moreland would basically be a salary dump . You won't get much in return. Certainly not a reliever who is any better than what we already have.
  11. The " bullpen is not a problem " spin is still going strong.
  12. That could be part of it . Of course , the pitchers have to cooperate and pitch him middle away . Tough to go the other way with an inside pitch .
  13. Yankees will be without Sanchez for this series , so we catch a break there . This series has a little different feel than it usually does . The Sox just need wins , no matter who the opponent is . Like Porcello, Tanaka is very vulnerable to the long ball . Go with Boston in this one .
  14. JBJ has been a much better hitter at home than on the road . On the road , he has been awful. Left field in Fenway is a big part of it .
  15. Max , You are missing one little detail . Since D.D. took over , we have won three straight A.L. East titles and one World Series . Without the pitchers you listed above that does not happen.
  16. Thanks . I forgot that. Early start too.
  17. I don't know if the numbers would bear this out , but it seems to me that there are more blown saves this year than ever before . The Red Sox are not the only ones doing it .
  18. Give the Rays credit for overachieving as much as they have this year . But I think they are pretty well cooked. Stick the fork in them tonight .
  19. The Yankee's starters have basically struggled every bit as much as ours have . They don't go deep in games either . Their bullpen has still performed well . No excuses needed.
  20. Yeah . I think getting a Yates or a Giles is a pipe dream . Too much competition out there .
  21. Cashman sure is taking his time about fixing that weak link rotation.
  22. With a pitching staff , I think it all works together. Good starters benefit the bullpen and vice versa . Ideally , you want both areas to be good.
  23. I think Eovaldi should get a pass on last night's results. First time back and he obviously was not sharp . It might take a couple of appearances before he gets it in gear . Still think it's a good move .
  24. It all depends on how he does tonight . If he gets a couple of hits tonight , he might be okay and worth keeping . If he goes hitless tonight , he is finished and should be dumped .
  25. Well , there are ham and eggers too . A ham and egger is a notch better than a jabroni, but certainly not good .
