  1. Everyone laughs at the Mets , but BVW got Stroman cheap . And it looks like he is keeping Thor , Wheeler and Diaz after all . Meanwhile , D.D. continues the thumb twiddling he has done ever since taking down his Christmas tree . And Cashman is sweating more than Aroldis Chapman with men on base . And that's a lot of sweat .
  2. If the old man was still alive , heads would be rolling in the training and conditioning department .
  3. It's so easy to ridicule the Mets . But they got Stroman for two mid level prospects . They have one of the best rotations in the game and some good , young talent . They have been playing better and are still in the playoff hunt . They may not trade Thor , Wheeler or Diaz after all . Not unless they get back something very good . We will have to see who gets the last laugh here .
  4. As the deadline nears , if the season ended today , the Sox would be going home . The question is , how did this happen ?
  5. Going all the way back to the free agent period , Dombrowski has stated that he thinks the players we have are enough to win it . He has never changed his opinion on that . So , I don't think we should be expecting anything big in the next 48 hours . I would like to have Diaz , but I don't see any way we can top the other offers for him . The Mets are not going to sell him cheap. And I don't see any sense in trading for a reliever who is no better than what we have now . Tomorrow will probably be relatively quiet as far as major deals by anyone , for that matter .
  6. Here's more . Chavis is batting .260 , with 16 home runs in 83 games against major league pitching . Dalbec , who by the way , is a year older than Chavis , is batting .230 with 20 home runs in 101 games against Double A pitching . No question in my mind which one is the keeper .
  7. Maybe Diaz has been a victim of the juiced ball . I don't remember ever seeing so many opposite field home runs as I see this year. Used to be that you could negate a guy's power by pitching away . Now , every Tom , Dick and Harry seems to have opposite field power . But Diaz has excellent stuff . He would be a great acquisition .
  8. Maybe the kingpin was near his spending limit . Had to go cheap on the hitmen .
  9. I would trade Dalbec for Diaz in one minute . Hard to believe the Mets won't get a better offer than that .
  10. Nobody asked me , but here are a couple of things that should be stopped : 1 - Managers telling the ump to hold up for a minute while they check the replay to see if they want to challenge the call . If you want to challenge , then challenge immediately . 2- Players carrying " cheat notes " in their pockets and hats . Do your homework for heaven's sake . No cheat notes .
  11. It will be interesting to see what the Mets do in the next two days . The N.L. wild card race is wide open , so maybe they think they still have a shot . Anyway , it looks like Cashman was beaten to the punch again .
  12. I give German credit . I thought he was going to fold like a cheap suit . But he didn't . He wasn't great , but he was good enough .
  13. That is impressive , considering that I have so many good ones . ( Maybe a couple of clunkers too . )
  14. " Serious issue " is an understatement . The Yank's starting rotation is a shell - shocked mess . Tonight is poor Domingo's turn to get shellacked . I am thinking he is a nervous wreck this afternoon.
  15. There is no way out for poor Domingo German tonight . With a sell out crowd of fans thirsting for blood at Fenway and a national TV audience , he will be shaking in his spikes . He will suffer a devastating and confidence shattering beating . Probably wind up on the I.L.
  16. Well , yeah . But only after reading the latest from Jeff Passan and discussing it with his pals down at Joe's Pub .
  17. Edwin Diaz has really good stuff . Obviously , the results have not been there this season , but I think he does have value . I would not mind the Sox getting him .
  18. Summing up what I think is true : Fans that post on baseball forums are much more likely to be into the advanced metrics . The average fan , who does not post on forums , is more likely to favor the traditional stats . If you disagree with that , it's okay . No problem .
  19. The Yankees's starting rotation is in absolute shambles . Cashman doesn't know where to begin fixing it .
  20. That is a ridiculous analogy . How many Red Sox fans are there ? How many of them post on TalkSox ? What percentage ? Saying that there are some average fans on here does not in any way mean that the average fan posts on here or any other Sox forum . The vast , vast majority do not . That is not even debatable .
  21. Three weeks ago , Hembree was being touted as the next closer . Now , he is on the outs . And so it goes . I will say it once more : Eovaldi closing can stabilize the bullpen . Guys like Workman , Barnes , possibly Hernandez and the rest can settle into their setup roles . That is how a bullpen should operate . All season long , it has been too uncertain . Too much playing it by ear . Not good .
  22. Widespread only among the advocates . Not the general fan base .
  23. That is just it . The average fan does not post on message boards either . People that do are more likely to be into that sort of thing . I did say that this is my belief . I do know quite a few " average fans . " I don't feel the need to answer a question about sitting in the bleachers and questioning fans .
  24. Yeah , but we are not getting any news to speak of . The NFL training camps are getting more news coverage . Same thing with free agency . All we heard were reasons and excuses why owners and GMs were hesitant to do anything . So afraid of making a mistake . In my opinion , this is not how to promote interest in the game .
  25. It is my belief that the average baseball fan is not into the ever growing , advanced metric alphabet soup of stats . When they look at pitchers , they look at wins , losses , ERA , saves , blown saves and strikeouts . When they look at hitters , they look at batting average , home runs , doubles , RBIs , runs scored and stolen bases . For those who enjoy the analytics , fine . Enjoy it . But I don't see it gaining widespread popularity any time soon .
