  1. Aroldis Chapman has tested positive for Covid . He is said to only have mild symptoms. But you have to wonder if it will have an effect on his nandrolone- jacked biceps.
  2. Some of the players , especially those with kids , are going to be playing with a lot on their mind . Have to wonder how it willl affect their performance in a sport that requires plenty of focus .
  3. A few more positive tests , a few more opt outs and they may very well just call the whole thing off . This is like watching a rain delay . The rain lets up a bit and you think they are going to resume play ; then another downpour hits .
  4. How about the Cleveland Galehouses ? If it wasn't for the late , great Denny Galehouse , they would be " celebrating " a 100 year championship drought this season . You are welcome , Cleveland .
  5. Many towns or areas are named after various Indian tribes . This is intended as a compliment , not at all derogatory . The Florida State football team is nicknamed " Seminoles " , without any complaint from the Seminole tribe in Florida. Certainly , " Redskins " can be offensive and should be changed , but is there really a need to change everything ?
  6. Maybe they need to do a study to find out if left handers are more susceptible to the virus .
  7. A tie . It means good luck when that happens.
  8. David Price opted out . He will not pitch for the Dodgers this year.
  9. The schedule for the Divisional races will be evenly balanced. However , the schedule for the wild card races will be more unbalanced than ever .
  10. At least we won't have to listen to that banal reminder that " The season is a marathon, not a sprint." Be thankful for that much.
  11. I think the teams are planning on doing the training in their own city / ballpark.
  12. Yes . That is their purpose. But sometimes it gets a little out of hand .
  13. I am as big a sports fan as anyone . I would like to see at least some semblance of a baseball season this year . But let's keep it real . The owners are living the good life, with or without baseball . The better players are making big money as well . And we are paying for all of it . Professional athletes are part of the overall entertainment industry. Their purpose is to provide us with diversion, amusement and entertainment. Just like the actors , singers and dancers . For this , not only do these performers , these entertainers become wealthy , but we also put them on a pedestal, idolize and worship them . Their egos become more bloated every day . It gets to where they tell us how to act , how to think and how to vote . And we listen to them . I think we all need a little reality check here . It's our money . We don't have to spend it on athletes , singers or actresses . The owners and the players can all go to hell . We are in charge . ( Or at least we are supposed to be . )
  14. Cricket, like baseball , is unique in its style and rules . The other major team sports all have the same , war like , premise . Two opposing armies, trying to penetrate and break down the opponent's defense , while defending their own territory and home.
  15. Tough to predict how good high school players will be as they progress. Most of the young pitching talent seems to come from Latin America these days . We don't know much about them until they arrive on the scene and start producing.
  16. Sometimes I make stuff up . And " wacky " is becoming pretty commonplace on TalkSox.
  17. In the past year , I have gone to literally thousands upon thousands of high school baseball games , and I can say this : The Red Sox draft choices are far and away the finest in all the land .
  18. I agree with that . A one year suspension seems fair .
  19. Human nature : We tend to discount, excuse or soft pedal bad behavior by those who we otherwise like .
  20. My guess is that they will " hammer out an agreement " and have at least some semblance of a season. Sadly however , they have already done more damage to a sport that was losing popularity to begin with .
  21. I hate to say it , but Red Sox fans quite often leave a lot to be desired in their attitude and behavior. That is evident at Fenway and even on this forum of ( allegedly) more educated , refined and sophisticated fans .
  22. Based on his play for the Rays , Crawford seemed like a good acquisition at the time. Unfortunately, it did not work out . It happens. The current allegations certainly do raise questions about his character.
  23. You are losing a little off the fastball. That's often the start of a decline. Better work on the breaking stuff.
  24. Folks who care enough to post ideas and opinions on baseball forums like this are just a drop in the bucket of the fan support that MLB needs to continue to thrive as a major sport . Baseball will always survive , at least as a niche sport , for the hard core fans . But to maintain it's position as one of the major players in the sports/entertainment business , it needs wide spread support from the " casual " fan base . It cannot afford to alienate this group. I'm not so sure they realize this.
