  1. A Sox loss tonight , or a Clevland win will mathematically eliminate them . Finis . A disappointing season no matter how you look at it .
  2. I had assumed his role was D.D.'s advisor and right hand man .
  3. And that is the rub . The better guys are , the more they get paid .
  4. Yeah . That is surprising . I was under the impression that LaRussa was there only because of Dombrowski. I wonder what his role will be .
  5. The King and his Court were a four man softball team . A pitcher ( Feigner ) , catcher and two fielders . They toured the country playing , and regularly beating , regulation softball teams . They were all good hitters , and Feigner was tougher to hit than Nolan Ryan .
  6. Anyone remember the late Eddie Feigner ? The King and his Court .
  7. Need to pass two of them . It's like that stereotypical old guy on the corner with the sign that reads " The end is near ."
  8. The Sox tragic numbers now are : With the A's - one . With the Rays - three . With the Guardians - four .
  9. To me , the back and forth trash talk with Yankee fans is all part of the deal . I have done it all my life . No problem with it .
  10. The Sox tragic numbers are : Six with the Guardians , four with the Rays and three with the A's .
  11. John Henry should have been more forthcoming as to the reason for the firing . His failure to do that has led to the speculation and guesswork .
  12. It would be foolish to suggest that the Sox still have a reasonable shot . However , crazy things do sometimes happen. Last night the A's closer blew a game against the lowly Royals . The Rays have some tough games ahead . Cleveland has been very iffy . The pressure is on all of them . It would be shocking if the Sox got back in the race , but it would not be the biggest upset of all time either .
  13. A sense of humor is very important in life . Too many people take too many things too seriously too often . It's not good for you .
  14. It's Sept . 17 . And we are still mathematically alive . Beat the Giants . Sweep the Rays . Hope for a miracle .
  15. Promiscuous robots . Coming soon . At a theater near you.
  16. Robots have no place on the baseball field . They have already taken over too much as it is . The best solution is to stop making robots . So far , they have not figured out how to reproduce themselves .
  17. Well , they don't really have to think about trading Betts . That really would be cause for firing .
  18. The fact is that next year's success hinges to a large extent on the health and productivity of Sale , Price and Eovaldi . Nothing we can do about that except hope for the best . ( Although a strong and deep bullpen would surely help . ) Still , the first four hitters in the lineup are the strength of this team . Don't break that up , whatever you do . Losing Mookie or J.D. would be a killer .
  19. Fair enough . Shouldn't that have to applied to D.D. as well ?
  20. We do have a couple of guys ( Chavis , Hernandez , Hernandez , Dalbec and maybe Duran ) to fill our immediate needs . Developing pitching has been an ongoing problem . No doubt about that . The contracts for Price , Sale and Eovaldi could be a continuing problem .I am not advocating going big for a guy like Cole , just for keeping our top guys in the fold . To me , all this reset talk is nonsense . It is crazy to even think of losing Betts .
  21. As stated in my farm anology , the farm always has to be re- planted . But you don't want to go hungry for two years while waiting . Not when you are the richest farmer in the state .
  22. Yep . Kind of like how blown saves can be demoralizing .
  23. We didn't bounce back from those two straight dismal cellar finishes by restocking the farm . We bounced back by acquiring the top quality players that we needed .
  24. Possibly . I / we don't really know . Henry could have avoided the speculation by explaining his reasons . Anyway , I don't see where signing Betts would spell financial ruin . The difference between what he is being paid now and what it would take to keep him would probably be more than made up by losing Porcello alone . I don't think it is the back breaker that some make it out to be .
  25. I am pretty careful how I spend my money . However , I have no problem whatsoever spending John Henry ' s money and spending it freely . The guy is loaded . He rakes it in from the Sox , Fenway , NESN and everything else he's got going .He charges us plenty for tickets , etc . The so called luxury tax wasn't my idea . It was his and the rest of the lords of baseball . Mookie Betts is a true franchise player . I don't really know what it would take to sign him , but I think Henry should be willing to match any offer . He can well afford it . If he would rather save the cash , that's his business . But the team and the fans will suffer for it .
