  1. The phone rings: Bloom : " Hello." Caller: " Hello Chaim , John Henry here." Bloom: " Oh , Hi Mr. Henry. What's up? ". Henry : " Call me John . How are you , Chaim ? And how's the family ?" Bloom : " Fine , John. What's on your mind this morning? ". Henry: " It's about the manager's job. You know me and my associates like Alex Cora a lot . We think he deserves another chance." Bloom: "Yes, John . I agree , but ... ". Henry: " Now don't get me wrong Chaim . I love Alex , but the choice is strictly up to you . Don't let the fact that I sign the checks influence your decision. I trust you completely. I know you like this other fellow , I forget his name , the guy with no experience." Bloom: " Sam Fuld?" Henry: " Yes , yes , that's it. So , think about it, Chaim. It's up to you. I will support any decision you make. Have a nice day." Bloom : " Thank you Mr. Henry , I mean John . I will give you my decision very soon. Have a great day. Goodbye." Henry : " Take care, Chaim." End of call.
  2. My feeling is that Cora was the choice all along. All this other stuff is just window dressing and spin. Only an idiot would take Fuld over Cora.
  3. I'm not a basher. Just grouchy a lot.
  4. Especially after Bronson signed a " team friendly " contract. No loyalty in baseball ,or among guitar players apparently.
  5. A lot of those " anyone can be traded" folks are the first ones to complain when a player leaves for more money or a more preferred location. Sorry , it works both ways folks. There is no loyalty in business. And , as we know, baseball is big business.
  6. Thank you. I have to give all credit to my local " wagering expert" Paul " Needlenose " Minagge. He has a way of knowing these things.
  7. 40% of those surveyed down at Clancy's thought Jeter Downs was a small racetrack in Alabama.
  8. My guess is that Cora will be named very shortly. I think Bloom likes Fuld and is trying to help him get some recognition by making him "the first runner up."
  9. No. I am just another jabroni who is not too thrilled with things at the moment. That could change. Harmony will always be the true " Cooler."
  10. New organizational philosophy: Save the farm . Decimate the starting lineup.
  11. I would keep JBJ , if possible. Springer would most likely be too expensive. Duran is waiting in the wings , but I don't know that he is ready yet.
  12. The mind can affect plenty. When you lose your confidence and start to anticipate failure, trouble follows. Call it the " yips " or whatever, but you have to find a way to relax and regain your self confidence. It's not so easy to do.
  13. Always like to see a man with a plan. It's great if you can sell your boss on a five year plan. It gives you some job security, if nothing else.
  14. Long time assistant in the Sox' analytics department, Harold Nerdwell, figures he has the inside track for this new position. He just spent all morning at Staples. Bought himself a nice , new pocket protector and everything. Ever thoughtful, Harold picked up a few gifts for Chaim also.
  15. I feel the same way. Now , we need to keep this " cliff " or down period as brief as possible.
  16. We had a great three year run 2016-2018. A lot of fun with those teams. As we know , anything can happen in the post season. 2018 was the culmination of it all.
  17. It's great to have your cake and eat it too. But it doesn't happen too often. Can't cry about the ones who got away. Enjoy what we have .
  18. Kopech had a lengthy drug suspension while in the Sox minor league system. He also broke his pitching hand in a brawl with a teammate. Definitely red flags . This year he got married in January , announced that his wife was pregnant shortly after that , then filed for divorce in June. This guy definitely has the characteristics of a problem child.
  19. That is what every auctioneer and every single e-bay seller tends to do. It is usually the smartest move.
  20. Michael Kopech throws very hard , but he had already shown signs of being a problem child. He has yet to accomplish anything for the White Sox. Anderson Espinosa still has not pitched beyond A Ball , where he has been less than stellar. His claim to fame is still being somewhere on the list of " Next Pedros ". Both have been injury prone at a young age. Logan Allen continues to be highly regarded on here for some reason. San Diego has since re-packaged him to Cleveland, where he is currently in their farm system as they try to determine his role. He has amounted to nothing so far. Yoan Moncada has shown excellent ability, although perhaps due to Covid , he regressed this year. Next season will tell a lot about him. Whether he will ever be better than Devers is debatable. All things considered, I think the trades were successful. We enjoyed three excellent and exciting seasons. I have no regrets.
  21. We just don't know. It could be that the prospects D.D. traded were overvalued and D.D. realized it. Or maybe not. One thing is for sure. Our pitching was in sad shape, both starters and bullpen. And there was no apparent help in the minors. We needed pitching.
  22. The MLB fan base does seem to be shrinking. I'm not sure what the solution is. It is obvious that Manfred does not have the answers.
  23. Max , Excellent post. Well thought out and some very good points. Not a rant at all.
  24. Here is the difference that doesn't show in fWAR : Lester is a winner. A champion. Perez is a jabroni.
  25. Well , they all have names . So you can make a list of them. It sounds good that way. Are they any good ? That remains to be seen.
