  1. O'Day is one of those unorthodox type of pitchers who can be tough to hit . His age does not seem to be much of a factor. He can be useful in his role.
  2. Harm , The " Cleveland vibe " ? That's a new one .
  3. This is a shocker . Came out of the blue with no previous rumors or anything. Ottavino at his best can be a big help in our bullpen. The question is : Can he shake off last year and regain his form at age 35 ? Stay tuned.
  4. What is this " baseball trade values " site anyway? Is it a panel of " experts" in baseball deals? Future G.M.s ? Mensa candidates? Or is it just a couple of pencil neck geeks , with a ton of college debt , trying to make a few bucks with their computer?
  5. Keeping up with the Yankees is always a challenge and never easy. It has always been that way. That is what makes it so gratifying when we are able to beat them. That is why 2004 was our true defining moment. The best sports moment of all time. And winning the A.L. East three straight years , 2016 - 2018 , was so great . And so worth the so- called " price we paid."
  6. Ben is focused on building up their farm. What's a few lousy teams and last place finishes when you are working on the future? I think he has a ten year plan. Be very patient Pirate fans. Very , very patient.
  7. Richards can be a nice addition to the rotation if he can stay healthy. But with his track record, that is a very big " IF " . Definitely taking a gamble here.
  8. I don't have a problem with this move. While not what you would call a game changer, Hernandez is a versatile player who adds a little right handed pop to the lineup. That should play well at Fenway.
  9. Zac Grotz is what is euphemistically known as a " depth signing."
  10. The " price we paid " helped build a champion and , arguably, one of the greatest teams of all time. It was well worth it. By the way , I still don't see that the price was nearly as high as some think. As for draft picks ; the better you are , the lower the draft picks. That's the way it is. It's certainly not an excuse to not try and be the best. I don't know if Kennedy is speaking for John Henry , but that statement is not what so many Sox fans want to hear after last year's debacle.
  11. Still a chance they sign JBJ. But they do still need a quality starter . And as I have been saying for the past two years, they absolutely have to bolster the bullpen. So many games come down to the bullpens these days , and that doesn't look like it will change anytime soon.
  12. I'm not necessarily in favor of trading Benintendi. But if they could sign Ozuna, it would be fine. But what are the odds of that?
  13. That's what we heard a year ago . " It's still early. Plenty of time to do something. " Then it was , " at the deadline." Now , it's a year later . And we are still hearing " It's early. Plenty of time." Okay. But let's not wait until anyone who can make an impact is already taken.
  14. There are not a lot of good, objective sports writers. On one hand , you have the " chipmunks " who are always trying to stir up a little mischief. On the other hand , you have the " butt kissers " who are always trying to be nice and curry favor with those who they think can help or hurt them. True objectivity is becoming a lost art.
  15. We finished an embarrassing last in 2020. Behind even Baltimore. So far we have done little to improve on that. We keep hearing " In Bloom we trust " , but it is now time for him to do something to warrant that trust.
  16. I don't think there are too many fans who are content to have another miserable season in the hope that things will be better in 2022 and beyond. Perhaps we are a bit spoiled, but that is how it goes. I hope that Sox ownership and management realizes that.
  17. If robots can't figure out how to solve those little Captcha puzzles , do we really want them calling balls and strikes?
  18. The solution to most problems is usually relatively simple. You don't need a room full of deep thinkers to figure it out. To speed up the pace of ballgames, give the umpires the authority and responsibility of keeping the games moving at a brisk pace. Almost every game you see can easily be speeded up . However , many kids today are just not interested in baseball , no matter the length of the games.
  19. Maybe we should have a robot commissioner. Or at least Manfred should hire a robot " special assistant. "
  20. I expect the Sox to make a significant move , probably more than one , very shortly. Bloom is a patient guy , but the situation really demands some action beyond a few depth ( aka jabroni) signings. Look for something soon.
  21. The good news is that you no longer have to go to Vegas or Atlantic City to blow your life savings. Due to the magic of the Internet, you can now go online , and a lovely lady will smile sweetly , and maybe show a little cleavage , as she takes your money. All from the comfort of your own living room. This is progress. ( This message is brought to you by Gamblers Anonymous) Please wager wisely.
  22. I think the Boston 's willingness to trade Benintendi could indicate a plan to sign JBJ. Think about it.
  23. Baseball does not have point spreads , but there are still betting odds , favorites and underdogs. And regular season records are not necessarily the determining factor. There is a general understanding of which team is better. And my point is that the better team is more likely to win. Call it a crapshoot or whatever you want, but the favorite is the favorite for a reason. They are more likely to win.
  24. I will always have good memories of Curtis Leskanic. I remember him doing the " Angels in the snow thing " after the championship was won. I remember him pitching, basically broken down and washed up , on sheer guts and some luck , with an 86 year curse staring at him. A whole lot of things went into ending that curse. And Curt Leskanic was a part of it.
