  1. The next seven games are against the worst that MLB has to offer. That should help to lift the spirits a bit.
  2. It is a long season . There are going to be ups and downs. You are going to lose some games. That is how it usually is. Folks need to relax a bit. This is a pretty good , but not great team. Long way to go.
  3. I am noticing some high scoring games lately . The hitters may be starting to catch up a bit. Things might not be as bad as we thought.
  4. Most people want to get ahead in their profession. Sports seem to get preferential consideration from the government regarding their treatment of employees.
  5. I wonder if old Pythagaras could have hit Chapman's splitter?
  6. The bullpens. Even the lousy teams have a steady parade of guys coming out of the pen throwing gas for an inning.
  7. We will have a better idea of things when the minor league season gets going. The so- called " alternate site " is no substitute for the minor leagues.
  8. Should baseball players (who are human beings ) be traded , swapped and bartered ? Sometimes thousands of miles from home ? Just on the whim of a GM , or to placate the " fans "?
  9. Bell , I'm starting to come around on Bloom . I had him figured as just an Ivy League , Theo wannabe , pencil neck geek. But he has made a few good moves . Hornswoggling Cashman out of Whitlock in itself is worth a big feather in his cap.
  10. I watched the SNY feed the past two nights. Three observations: 1 - The Sox are a legitimate contender. 2 - The Mets need lessons on hitting or laying off the breaking ball. 3 - The Met's announcers are far , far better than the NESN crew.
  11. Thanks. I do try to add a little humor to things. Sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't. People tend to take everything a little too seriously. As far as trades are concerned, I think Dombrowski did what needed to be done . I have no complaints.
  12. If I gave you four cans of tomato soup in exchange for your Cadillac, you might say I overpaid because I could have gotten a half decent car for just three cans of soup . But in the end , I got the Cadillac and you got the tomato soup. I think I made out pretty well in the deal.
  13. You are never going to get big betting odds on an MLB game , regardless of the pitchers. There are just too many variables in baseball. It would not be a huge upset if the Sox win tomorrow night.
  14. Right now , the Yankees are still in the " this club is too good to keep playing this poorly " mode . At what point does that turn to " concern" ? And when does " concern " turn to " panic " ? As noted before , Hal seems to be a lot more patient than his old man was . If George were still alive, heads would already be rolling in the Bronx.
  15. Five and a half years after being traded , Logan Allen has an MLB career record of 3 - 6 , with an ERA of 5.64 . Yet we still have folks checking the box scores daily , hoping that he does well so they can post a sarcastic " Thanks , Dave ."
  16. There are a lot of folks who think they are the two best teams in MLB. They are developing quite a rivalry.
  17. Seven inning games. Runner on second to start the tenth inning. Asinine ideas . The folks who run baseball have no clue as to what is wrong with the game and what needs to be done to correct it.
  18. Elementary, my dear Watson. Have a nice day.
  19. A big part of success in pitching is getting hitters to swing at pitches that are NOT strikes.
  20. Do you ever get the feeling that someone is putting you on ? Just a little bit ?
  21. Absolutely. In the old days , it always seemed that we were being mocked , beaten and bullied by the big , bad Yankees and their obnoxious fans . That took a big hit with the great comeback in 2004 . And it went away completely by the time we won three straight A.L. East titles , culminating in 1918 with our fourth championship in fifteen years. Now , Yankee fans are only mildly annoying. The only downside being that some Sox fans have now become just a bit obnoxious themselves.
  22. We always need to be periodically reminded that the baseball season is a marathon. Can't get too high with every win or too low with every loss. The schedule for the immediate future looks pretty soft . Lots of games against the Rangers , Tigers and ( yet again ) the Orioles. That should keep the Sox in first place , at least for now.
  23. Hitting a baseball ain't easy. With bullpens today featuring a parade of flame throwers it just gets harder. The use of shifts certainly doesn't help matters either . It can be tough enough to just put the ball in play , much less " hit it where they ain't " to beat the shift . It is not unprecedented for sports to regulate the defensive alignments in order to enhance the offense and make the game more exciting. It is something that MLB should think about.
  24. I think folks are going to have to start taking this ballclub seriously as a real contender. They are playing with a lot of confidence and seem to be one of those teams that is greater than the sum of it's parts. Also , the rest of the A.L. does not look especially daunting. Could be a very interesting season.
