  1. I think the practice of pitchers putting something on their hands to help their grip on the ball is very widespread. How much it helps with spin rate , I really don't know. It looks like MLB is going to police it more thoroughly. They are obviously hoping for more offense.
  2. No doubt there have been exceptions , but generally players named later don't ever amount to much.
  3. Time will tell whether or not it was a good deal. Too soon right now. But there are those who will defend Bloom no matter how it turns out. We seem to be getting to where we root for or against the G.M.s more than we root for the players.
  4. I wonder what Boone was thinking when he pitched to Devers with first base open in the sixth inning? Now , I'm no managerial genius or anything, but putting Devers on seemed to be in the no - brainer category.
  5. Stanton has as much raw power as anyone in the game. But he takes some of the weakest , strangest swings I have ever seen. Honestly, my Aunt Tillie took better hacks in backyard wiffleball games.
  6. The Yankees are on the brink of falling out of contention. They are playing terrible baseball and apparently have forgotten how to hit. Boone looks totally lost and befuddled. Cashman is quiet . And Steinbrenner is nowhere to be found. A Sox sweep looks imminent.
  7. I honestly think some fans would not mind playing second fiddle to the Yankees , and never quite winning the pennant , as long as we had a few promising youngsters down on the farm and the " future looked bright." (None of the boys down at Clancy's feel that way.) The " future " never really gets here. It's always in the future.
  8. If the Sox are in contention at the deadline ( and I think they will be ) , why in the world would they even consider trading Matt Barnes ? That makes no sense whatsoever.
  9. I steal most of my stuff.
  10. Some folks seem to forget that there are two big league teams competing in a game. They focus only on the Sox ' player. The Sox' hitter or pitcher is either great or he really sucks . No credit or blame is assigned to the opposing hitter or pitcher.
  11. Workman in. Brewer out and off the roster. Good move. The Cubs have an excellent bullpen, but I do think they were a little hasty in dumping Workman. He can be a good addition for the Sox.
  12. The Mets have probably been harder hit with injuries than anyone . But they are a very good team . I would not sell them short.
  13. The saving grace for the Yankees is their bullpen. You simply cannot overstate how important the bullpen is in today's game.
  14. Workman opted out of the minor league contract. Sox have to promote him or he becomes a free agent again. That is my understanding of the situation at present.
  15. They should bring him up. He has to be better than some of the current crew. If they don't sign him , someone else will.
  16. The powerhouse Yankee teams of yesteryear always featured an array of strong left handed hitters. Somehow, Cashman has gotten away from that . Their lineup is almost entirely right handed.
  17. Water seeks it's level.
  18. Could have been worse. Could have signed Ozuna .
  19. Big week in The Bronx . Rays in for four and the Sox for three. Boone's job could be on the line here.
  20. Florida , not Canada.
  21. Watching the game , the only expression that comes to mind is ; " The wheels are coming off ."
  22. It will be interesting to see how the Sox fare in these matchups. While generally highly regarded, these teams all have serious flaws in one area or another. The schedule is not as daunting as you may think.
  23. Garcia is another one of those kids who was unfairly hyped as " The next Pedro." When I see him pitch , I wonder what they were thinking. He is not even close to that. Unfortunately, bearing a passing resemblance to someone does not give you that person's talent and ability.
  24. I have no idea what the Yankees see in Deivi Garcia. He is just not very good.
  25. What the Rays lack in star power, they make up for by consistently playing good , solid , fundamental , winning baseball. ( The Jays are the exact opposite) A lot of credit should go to Kevin Cash , arguably the best manager in the game. He seems to get the absolute best out of what he has to work with.
