  1. Dombrowski has the knack of seeing what needs to be done and the aggressiveness to go out and do it. He is a good judge of baseball talent. He knows who to acquire, who to trade and who to keep. The results speak for themselves.
  2. Basically, the Sox are still trying to recover from the asinine decision to fire Dombrowski and bring in Bloom. John Henry wanted to go in a different direction for something " more sustainable ". It was a very dumb move and has simply not worked out.
  3. The upcoming series with the Yankees is a good test. The Sox cannot afford to go into the Bronx and get embarrassed this weekend. They are going to have to raise their game and provide some hope to the fans, as well as to management. They do catch a bit of a break in that they won't see Fried and the Yankee's closer, Weaver, is now on the I.L.
  4. To say that it has been a rough few months is misleading. Actually, it has been a few years now,
  5. They have not shown very much. But I do think the team is better than the results have been. A lot of close games where they just could not get the key hit or make the key play. It wouldn't take too much to improve that. And with three wild cards, any improvement would be reason not to quit on the season. Plus, I just despise all the talk about being " sellers " when it's not yet summer. What kind of attitude is that?
  6. When Schiraldi exited, the Sox were still up one run. The tying run scored on Stanley's wild pitch. Stanley gets the blown save. Schiraldi gets the loss on Buckner's error.
  7. If the Red Sox are sellers on June 3, it is time to rethink our loyalty. This is far too early to give up the ship. What is wrong with these jokers ?
  8. As far as pitching injuries are concerned, I have neither the time or the desire to do any research on this. But I do find it hard to believe that there were more pitching injuries four years ago than there are these days. Right now , it seems epidemic. At least three more yesterday.
  9. I don't think any of the great pitchers would appreciate being yanked after 4.2 innings. I think Cora is just doing what he thinks gives the team their best chance of winning. And he might also be sending a message to Bello and the others. Pitching changes , or lack of same, are the number one cause of managers being second guessed.
  10. Braves starter, Bryce Elder is a mediocre right hander. Not great velocity. Not a big strikeout pitcher. The kind of pitcher that the Sox should be able to handle and maybe do some damage. Have to like their chances in this one.
  11. Dodger juggernaut.
  12. I guess when a pitcher is up for a new contract or for arbitration, they don't want management telling them that they didn't win many games either.
  13. It's not just the pitch clock itself, but the constant pressure to not violate it. There should be a little more leeway if it's a tough situation or a long at bat, etc. The pitcher should be able to step off and take a few breaths without using a mound visit or time out. Obviously, you don't want them taking 30 seconds or more between every pitch. But the continual need to hurry up is not good for health.
  14. I would bet that Roman Anthony will be called up when the Sox return home on Monday. I agree that it should have been sooner, but I am pretty sure that the move is imminent.
  15. Is it a crackpot theory to believe that a certain recovery time is needed when performing strenuous activities ? And to continually have that clock ticking pitch after pitch is not a potential problem. ? To constantly be in hurry up mode does not lead to mistakes ? Pitchers are getting hurt every single game. Not all of them require Tommy John surgery. And I don't hate the pitch clock. I like the quicker games. I am just tying to figure out what the problem is. I am not ready the just accept the party line that velocity is the only cause.
  16. Do me a favor. Don't point anything out to me. I have my opinions and I have my basis for them. And data is easily manipulated and not something I would swear by anyway. You like the pitch clock. Good for you.
  17. What I see are the pitching injuries that are happening every day. And a common sense that tells me that a certain recovery time is often needed between exertions. I will never be able to convince you of that , but it does not change my opinion.
  18. When I was a kid , ( many, many moons ago) they told us that throwing the curve ball would ruin your arm. Try to stick with the fastball and throw it as hard as you could. Maximum effort for maximum velocity is nothing new. What is new is the pitch clock. The continual need to hurry up . I absolutely think that could very well be a factor in the rash of injuries we are seeing. And others don't agree. So be it.
  19. I think you have made up your mind that you don't want the pitch clock to be a contributing factor to the pitching injuries that we are seeing on a daily basis. And there is nothing that will change your mind.
  20. The Sox had Mookie under contract through 2020 . Time enough to offer an extension. After that, they still could have signed him as a free agent, as the Yankees did with Judge. The fact is, John Henry did not want to spring for the money.
  21. MLB does not want to consider the pitch clock as a factor in the rash of pitching injuries because the pitch clock is their innovation. Many fans do not want to consider the pitch clock as a factor in the injuries because they like the shorter, faster paced games. The blame is usually put on the increased velocity . But it seems to me that the increased velocity would be all the more reason to not always be in a hurry to beat the ticking clock. Sometimes you need a little breather between reps.
  22. No. Now they have closers to give up the grand slam in the ninth.
  23. In most cases, ( not all, but most) the great pitchers were big winners who battled to get the W. No doubt, times have changed.
  24. Boxing analogy. A fighter is boxing beautifully. Good jab. Nice footwork. Great technique. He is leading on points. Then he gets knocked out. He loses the fight. He gets a lot of style points, but the loss goes on his record nevertheless. And the other guy gets the title shot, outdoors in the ballpark.
