  1. If the Red Sox give him one more start, it will be a huge mistake. Time to move him to the bullpen. They can't give away games and starting Pomeranz will give away games. He has no fastball anymore and relies solely on his curve. That's not good enough.
  2. They can't give Pomeranz another start, right? I realize you shouldn't overreact to one start, but this has been going on all year with Pomeranz. His stuff just isn't good enough. He has no fastball, relies solely on the curve, and the curve is going to fail him from time to time and get hit a long way. The Orioles don't exactly have a dominant lineup, and Pomeranz couldn't complete 5 innings against them. You have to move him to the bullpen to see if he can develop into a one inning reliever. They need to find another starter on the trade market -- Pomeranz has been a failure for the entire season, the sample size is large enough now and the stuff isn't there.
  3. I would offer Dallbec and Beeks for Wheeler. What a bargain for the Mets!
  4. It is one thing to ask for donations to help pay for the cost of a website (which isn't overly expensive) it is another thing to ask for donations under the guise of "scouting players," which is really nothing more than a paid vacation. Mike Andrews also lies to soxprospects forum members about this matter and the amount of donations coming in. I know about this because I know an ex-forum member who knew about these things. Andrews also lies each year when he threatens to make soxprospects a paid site if he doesn't receive sufficient donations. In reality, he has no intention to do this. He knows that he can't do this--no one is going to pay money to soxprospects on a monthly basis (a subscription) when they can get information on Red Sox prospects for free on other sites. But as Nietzsche pointed out, to each his own. If you like the guy, good for you. I think he is a pimp.
  5. I just don't see the Yankees giving up the prospects for Archer. The Rays are going to want the moon for him--partly due to his contract, partly due to his talent. Moreover, the Rays have to be thinking that Archer and Snell are a nice foundation to a solid pitching staff, something to build around.
  6. On a positive note, Sanchez ripped that ball in the ninth inning. He hit it right at the 2b playing near the bag, but he ripped the ball. I'm not sure what the exit velocity was, but I'm sure it was impressive. True, Sanchez didn't hustle but how many times does a second baseman make a boneheaded play like that? The 2b (don't remember his name) should have thrown the ball to first for an easy out and that happens 99% of the time. Instead, he tosses it to the SS who wasn't even on the 2b bag. To be fair to Sanchez, he didn't anticipate that kind of stupidity because it hardly ever happens in the major leagues. Sanchez ripped the ball but it was a routine play after that until the 2b turned it into a circus.
  7. Sanchez is on the trade block? I didn't know that. he does suck defensively. Part of it, though, is the pitching staff, the pitching philosophy of Rothschild: "throw a slider in the dirt and when you have finished throwing a slider in the dirt throw another one in the dirt and then another and another. . . ." Teams should run on the Yankees more especially with two strikes on the batter. Once the Yankees pitching staff gets two strikes, it is slider in the dirt time.
  8. I liked how he took the sure out at first before throwing it to second. Always get that sure out. A pretty good player for 6 million. He is signed for that amount next year too.
  9. Soxprospects has turned into a shithole. I only go to Soxprospects to read Eric's thoughts. True, he gets things wrong (don't we all) but it is kind of interesting to read the perspective of someone who actually worked in the Red Sox front office. BTW, Eric does not want the Red Sox to pursue a SP at the trade deadline. The founder of soxprospects, Mike Andrews, is a real scumbag. The only time he posts on the site is when he asks members for donations to help pay for his vacations. I rely on MLB Pipeline to learn about prospects. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/prospects/index.jsp I can understand why Eric left SOSH. Someone should invite him to this forum, the best Red Sox forum on the internet!
  10. Wasn't J.Morneau's career derailed due to concussions? I don't remember now, but two concussions in four months of baseball should be a red flag IMO. Some teams might want to see Frazier stay healthy (or concussion-free) for a full season before trading for him.
  11. I hated Boone's decision to bunt with Didi in the ninth inning. If the bunt is successful, you lose Stanton's bat (intentional walk) and that is exactly what happened. The Yankees gave up an out and then lost Stanton's bat. Two negatives.
  12. I don't want the Yankees to get Degrom. The Yankees are a very strong team, one of the best in baseball, and if they acquire a SP like Degrom they will be just as good as the Red Sox. I don't want that. I do believe Cashman made a mistake in not being aggressive enough in acquiring a pitcher like Degrom. He had a chance to get Cole and he blew it. We don't know the nature of Cashman's talks with the Mets, but I suspect he tried to acquire Degrom in an unfair, one-sided deal, the only kind of deal that Cashman likes, similar to the rip off deal he made with Derek Jeter. And now, according to Olney (Twitter), it is too late: Notice that Olney put the burden on the Mets--I don't agree with that assessment. The fact is, the Mets don't have to trade Degrom right now, they can just as easily move him in the offseason. The burden is on the teams that need a SP like Degrom and didn't make the Mets an offer they couldn't refuse. Without trading for a pitcher like Degrom, the Yankees are looking at the wild card and an early exit from the playoffs. I wonder what Yankees fans will think in October when the Yankees are eliminated and they watch G.Cole take the mound for the Astros? At that point will Cashman realize that he should have offered something better than C.Frazier and C.Adams? Will Cashman realize that he should have been more aggressive in pursuing Degrom?
  13. Agreed. I would rank starter as priority number one. 2b priority number two. Wright might not come back at all. Trading for a guy who can pitch fourth in the rotation in October makes sense. The playoff rotation: (1) Sale (2) Porcello (3) Rodriguez or Price (the other goes to the bullpen, hopefully Price to the bullpen) (4) trade target (hopefully Z.Wheeler)
  14. Someone -- was it Heyman? -- said this is all nonsense. The Yankees are not trading Gray. After all, the Yankees are a little short in the rotation as it is. They can't possibly lose another starter.
  15. C.Frazier, Brian Cashman's favorite trade chip--he can't get rid of him fast enough--was put on the DL for a concussion. This was the second time this year that Frazier landed on the DL due to concussion. With the trade deadline coming up, the timing couldn't be more problematic for the Yankees: a second concussion will give teams pause in trading for Frazier. To obtain a SP, the Yankees will need to turn to other trade chips. I doubt they can use Loaisiga in a trade (shoulder). Of course, the Yankees still have Florial and Sheffield and could obtain a really good starter with those two. According to reports, however, the Yankees are unwilling to trade Sheffield. The Yankees might look to obtain more of a 4th or 5th starter, a guy who won't require a top prospect. But this might not be the best strategy. The Yankees are one of the best teams in baseball--why not go all out for a SP and increase the team's odds of winning a championship?
  16. I would trade for a 2b and a starting pitcher. I wouldn't bother trading for a relief arm. There is a chance that Pomeranz won't make it as a SP this year and the Red Sox will need to move him to the bullpen as a one inning reliever (to improve his velocity). Pomeranz pitched out of the bullpen a few years ago for the Red Sox and did OK. Due to injury, the Red Sox may decide to move Rodriguez to the bullpen in October, depending on when he returns. Finally, an argument could be made for moving Price to the bullpen in October. Thus, I would trade for a starter, knowing that I can move one or two of my lefty starters to the bullpen in October.
  17. Yeah, bad timing for Harvey. He gave up 8 ERs. On a positive note, maybe the Red Sox can acquire him more cheaply. This would only happen to the Mets.
  18. If they can acquire Moustakas cheaply enough, I would have no problem seeing him replace Devers for the rest of the season and into October. He will be an upgrade over what Devers is now. Devers OPS+ is 89; Moustakas OPS+ is 109. Defensively, Moustakas has better range than Devers and makes fewer errors. However, it makes less sense to replace Devers at 3b while keeping Nunez as the starter at 2b. Nunez is the biggest problem in the infield and the first guy who should be replaced.
  19. It sounds like the Diamondbacks and Brewers are after the Mets Cabrera: https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-trade-rumors-roundup-asdrubal-cabrera-could-be-the-next-met-on-the-move/ No news of the Red Sox being interested. Dombrowski can't ignore the hole at second base, right?
  20. The year Ben signed Hanley and Sandoval, many fans criticized him prior to the season for his starting pitching staff. As the season unfolded, the fans were proven right. I remember that staff: C.Buchholz, J.Kelly, W.Miley, a washed up J.Masterson, and R.Porcello. During that offseason, the Red Sox could have signed M.Scherzer.
  21. Jonathan Schoop is a free agent after next season. The Orioles are in full blown rebuild mode. We can be pretty certain that Schoop will not be playing for the Orioles beyond next season. Schoop is also having a down year this season and that could possibly lower his trade value. Just thinking out loud here......
  22. I argued that his spending on Hanley, Sandoval, and Castillo would undermine his chances of obtaining a GM position. I stand by that argument. He may get some consideration but at the end of the day owners will have a hard time overlooking those three costly decisions. Trading for and taking on the contract of A.Craig isn't going to help, either.
  23. Let Kimbrell walk via free agency and sign K.Herrera. The Red Sox save money (Herrera will come cheaper than Kimbrell), obtain a younger player (Herrera is 19 months younger than Kimbrel), and obtain a draft pick for Kimbrel. Herrera will not require draft compensation. Herrera keeps the closer seat warm for a few years until Feltman is ready to take over.
  24. I don't know if the Dodgers plan to bring back Machado. (1) Doesn't Seager return next year? (2) J.Turner is signed through 2020 for 37 million. Machado won't be able to play SS for the Dodgers next year. I guess they could sign him for 3b and then try to move Turner's contract or use Turner as a utility player. That's an expensive utility player, however. Also, if Machado really wants to play SS, the Dodgers aren't the team for him.
  25. I don't think the level of competition matters in this case. What matters is how he looked or performed, not the results. In this case, the velocity wasn't there, but the curve was sharp. That's a step in the right direction. You can evaluate the curve independently of the results. I wouldn't promote him at this time, though. I want to make sure he can consistently throw a quality curve. Thus, I would keep him down in the minors for at least one more start.
