  1. I thought it was a good deal for the Blue Jays--they acquired two guys who have a real shot at being starting players, Drury at 3b and McKinney in the OF. Getting two starting position players for a couple of months of Happ is nice work. From the Yankees perspective, they have the depth to overpay for Happ. They key for the Yankees was holding on to the top prospects--Sheffield and Florial. So, a win-win for both teams. I would rather have Wheeler over Happ but it sounds like the Mets want one really good prospect for Wheeler at least. Wheeler would have cost the Yankees Sheffield or Florial, plus other pieces.
  2. I totally agree with this. Don't know what it is about Pomeranz, maybe because Dombrowski traded for him, he is reluctant to give up on him. Johnson should stay in the rotation. Pomeranz has earned a bullpen demotion.
  3. Exactly. It's almost like Dombrowski faked out Cashman. While Cashman was trading for Britton, the Red Sox were trading for Eovaldi. The Red Sox need Eovaldi more than Britton. The Yankees need Eovaldi more than Britton. Bad job by Cashman. While I like Beeks, I would trade him over Shawaryn, Groome, Houck, and Mata. So, the Red Sox acquired one of the best SPs on the trade market and kept their top 4 SP prospects. That's impressive. The only thing that pisses me off: Brian Johnson is going to the bullpen instead of Pomeranz. Big guy Dave refuses to give up on Pomeranz......
  4. It is amazing what has happened to Kelly. He was one of the Red Sox's best relief pitchers and now they can't trust him in a close game. I would put him on the DL, give him some rest, and then maybe he can find it again on a rehab assignment.
  5. I'm starting to think this is our strategy too. Add a relief pitcher, and just hope that Nunez gets hot. Holt is decent enough at 2b if Nunez never wakes up. I just hope the Red Sox don't trade Houck, Shawaryn, Groome, Mata, Buttrey, or Feltman. Hold on to the young pitching. I would use Dalbec as my main trade chip -- he is forever blocked at 3b anyway with Devers. I also want to hold on to Ockimey (replaces Moreland in 2020) and Chatham (possible future starter at 2b). If the Red Sox don't trade for a relief pitcher, they might be able to improve the pen from within: Buttrey.
  6. Not with Chris Sale pitching games 1 and 5. Amazing to think that the Red Sox and Yankees haven't met up in the playoffs since 2004. Back then in 2003 and 2004, it felt like they would meet up every year and yet here we are in 2018 and it hasn't happened in almost 15 years. . . .
  7. I'm starting to think that the Red Sox aren't in on Cabrera (Mets, 2b) at all -- I can't find any reports linking them to Cabrera. While I haven't looked at the defensive metrics, I have heard that they aren't very friendly to Cabrera and so maybe the Red Sox don't want to deal with his defense. Sure, Nunez is weak defensively too, but Holt is pretty solid defensively. What other 2b are out there? I'm forgetting someone?
  8. If you wait to acquire Eovaldi, maybe you lose him to another team, and then the Red Sox might be left paying a higher price for someone else at the deadline. I wonder if the Yankees were involved in the Eovaldi talks? They need Eovaldi more than Britton. But maybe the Yankees didn't want the Astros to end up with Britton--a kind of pay back for acquiring Cole.
  9. Yeah, I would rather have a rested Eovaldi, the Red Sox can now slot him in at the best time/spot. Also, even without Eovaldi pitching, the Rays went to the bullpen approach and beat the Yankees 3-2. The Red Sox can have their cake and eat it too.
  10. As far as I know, the guys on soxprospects aren't trained professional scouts--they are fans on an internet board, just like us here. They call themselves scouts but that doesn't mean they are real professional scouts. In contrast, I have heard that Perfect Game is run by real professional scouts. There is a football site too, a paid site, forgot the name now, that also has reports and articles from professional scouts. By the way, MVP 78, I plan to take a trip to spring training in Florida next year to watch a few Red Sox youngsters. Would you donate to my trip? I'll even write up an amateur scouting report on what I see. By the way, I only fly first class. LOL. Make check payable to Fan_since_Boggs.
  11. Yeah but they aren't professional scouts. They are amateurs who watch a ballgame like a fan does. The only difference is that they write up amateur scouting reports--the fan doesn't. I also don't understand why SOSH asks for money. There are plenty of free forums on the internet, why should members pay? What benefit does SOSH provide? Likewise, you can get all the info on soxprospects elsewhere.
  12. Probably waited too long for this -- people were calling for it a few years ago.
  13. They acquired Eovaldi without giving up Houck, Shawaryn, or Groome, the Red Sox top 3 pitching prospects. Don't get me wrong, I like Beeks, but he doesn't have the upside of Groome and Houck. Shawaryn, who is a year younger than Beeks, has slightly better projection IMO. Beeks is a nice pitcher, but they could afford to move him with Houck and Shawaryn ready to enter the rotation mix by 2020. I also wonder if the Red Sox talked to the Mets about Wheeler. My proposed trade was Beeks and Dalbec for Wheeler but maybe the Mets are expecting a greater return. Wheeler does has one more year of control. Eovaldi is definitely a guy the Red Sox should consider resigning in the offseason. Get a starting 2b and Dombrowski's work is done.
  14. And Eovaldi is good enough to be your fourth starter in the playoffs. A great trade, as SP depth was becoming a real concern. I wonder what Eric Von thinks about this deal as he was arguing over and over again that the Red Sox don't need to trade for a starter and that there is a 50/50 chance they can rely on Pomeranz. I like Eric's stuff, but I disagreed with him on the starter issue.
  15. Johnson has pitched better than Pomeranz. I'll be so pissed off if they take Johnson out of the starting rotation for Pomeranz.
  16. Perhaps he can gain an little extra velocity working as a one inning reliever. That is really the only hope that is left before he turns into another Runny Nose Castillo. Sure, I wouldn't use him in high leverage situations at first.
  17. I agree. You don't want to go over it every year, but it makes sense to go over it this year. They need to go all out for a championship and can't let the stupid contracts of Hanley and Sandoval hinder that quest.
  18. Staff as of right now: Sale Porcello Price Eovaldi Johnson See you in the bullpen Pomeranz
  19. For Jalen Beeks. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/07/red-sox-to-acquire-nathan-eovaldi.html Great deal for the Red Sox. Great deal for the Rays, too. A win-win. Does this put the Red Sox over the highest luxury tax threshold? I don't care if it did--the Red Sox shouldn't worry about that at this point. It is interesting that this deal is made the day after Pomeranz stunk up the joint.
  20. I agree. Velazquez is a better pitcher than the 2018 Pomeranz.
  21. I'm OK with Cora's decision to send Pomeranz back out there in the 5th. Cora needs to figure out what Pomeranz is and if he can help them in the rotation this year. Pomeranz blew it, of course. While I don't disagree with Cora's decision, I will strongly disagree with the decision to give Pomeranz another start. For me, he has earned a demotion to the bullpen. He hasn't pitched well this year in the majors or minors. His stuff is subpar.
  22. Agreed. The sample size is large enough now. For the most part, he didn't even pitch well against minor league hitters.
