  1. A lot of talk these days about Zach Britton. I can understand the Sox would like a quality left hand reliever in the BP but is Britton the right guy. He was lights out in the past, but that was then and he has gone through an injury and I am not so sure we want to take that risk, especially if it would mean giving up a lot to get him.
  2. i remember from the game that Porcello was getting hammered and couldn't find the strike zone. Cora left him in until the game was in great jeopardy and then had to go to the BP anyway. I don't see how his decision in that case can be supported. It was highly questionable and the results were bad.
  3. The priorities are in the pitching department. Holt is a keeper but not as an everyday player. We will not be able to fill every position where we have a need so maybe Phillips comes in to help for this year if he shows up in AAA. Otherwise a starter is needed and one or two relief pitchers, letting our worst go. Catcher is also still up in the air until later in August. If we can get by until then, Vaz will become available and the need will be reduced. If Leon is injured in the interim, we would be forced to act.
  4. Imagine a competition where outfielders tried to make the fastest and most accurate throw home and they threw their arm out. Great for the game?
  5. The guy who I think has been helped the most is Bogaerts. He did have injuries last year but this year he is more aggressive and trying to use the power he has had but not really used. I credit Cora with that change by instructing him to be more aggressive on strikes early and asking him to try to pull more balls. Maybe JDM has also helped him but to me it was Cora who set the tone.
  6. Realistically, DD will go for a SP, RP or two, 2nd baseman, catching prospect but the emphasis will be on pitching. To the extent he can bolster the pitching, he might have to give away future pitching prospects and more. He will need to act and I would guess the options are already lined up. We will be outbid on some of them so maybe we don't get the ideal arrangement but it is competitive out there and if DD can strengthen this years team, fire away.
  7. Chances are nothing will be announced before completion of the AS Game so as not to detract from the importance of it. After that, expect the trades to be announced with many in the offing. DD has been working so something is probably in the cards now.
  8. There is a report that said he hurt his knee. I will attempt to go back and find the link.
  9. Yes and last night E-Rod sprained his surgically repaired knee. It could bee a major setback.
  10. I thought this string was about who we should trade for. In that case, with Wright not doing as well as hoped and now E Rod out with a knee sprain on his surgically repaired knee, we might change our focus to look for a starter and probably a reliever as well. Priorities change and our recent injury bug has probably changed who we go after.
  11. I meant Scott, good catch.
  12. Yes, and now we need additional relief pitching. Hembree is irratic, Robbie Ross is not putting up ML numbers, Kelly has been bad of late, but I have opes for him. Velo is there, just needs to get it back together. I think we could use at least one reliever and possibly two, but we also need a second baseman as Pedroia doesn.t look like he will play again in 2018. After that, who know. We can scrape by at catcher and CF is not a big priority. We have a good team, but pitching could be our downfall. DD needs to act in that area for sure.
  13. That's got to be some kind of record for GSs by the Sox. I have been around a long time and never remember a year like this. Now the Guardians need too take it to the Yankees for icing on the cake.
  14. Hate to see Kimbrel walk Smoak when he was ahead on the count. Lets get Granderson.
  15. You wonder if he lost count of the number of outs. We miss Pearse and Beni. The lineup has definitely been shortened.
  16. Now we are behind. Kelly left a mess. He is off his game for sure. Maybe the AS break will help.
  17. How long is his bereavement leave? Will he play again before the AS Break?
  18. I agree with those (anyone else) who believes it is time to close this thread.
  19. Yes. We need a lefty that is reliable. I wouldn't necessarily go for the big name but look for health and reliability over star quality.
  20. I think the point is that it was obvious Porcello didn't have it last night and rather than letting the team go way down in the score, porcello needed relief. In the end, Cora had to use the P anyway, so nothing was saved by getting Porcello shelled totally. It is true that the Sox staff is short right now, but there are also only a couple of games remaining until the break. Having Kelly and Robbie Scott look ineffective is another issue. It still looks like the BP shold be a priority in DDs thinking.
  21. There will be questions of what Cora was thinking to allow Porcello to go so long when it was obvious he didn't have anything tonight. I see little justification for his inaction.
  22. Just what I was thinking. Terrific duel and Mookie finally won the battle.
  23. Taking the good ones and swinging at the bad. Maybe the third time around. Tough, with a leadoff double and the top of the order up, we couldn't produce a run.
  24. Even JBJ has been making better contact. He has hit more balls to center and left as well. Maybe a little more pull would also work for him as his long balls to center wind up as outs. There is hope for him. I heard the comment was made from Cora recently that JBJ has finally joined the team, meaning he is buying in to hitting suggestions for him. Hope its true. He has a long way to go to get to a 230 average but there is time for him to achieve that. He would have to hit around 270 for the rest of the year to do it.
  25. Whatever happened to sliding feet first? That was taught to all young ball players of my generation and seldom resulted in more than a little raspberry. We played on gritty diamonds.
