  1. Definite Starters for Now (thinking like Bloom) 1 Sale 2 Kluber On the wings, only if Cora can't come up with the five 1 Paxton, probably will start in the pen, maybe the first option to join the 'five' when he completes the rehab assignments. Will be a starter as long as he doesn't 'blow it' 1 G. Whitlock Will be a starter as long as he's beaten out performance wise by 5 other pitchers 1 N Pivetta Will be a starter as long as he's perceived to be less than Bell and Paxton, performance wise 1 Houck Will be a starter if Houck falters and moves to the pen 1 Bello It's a puzzle......or a cluster f***
  2. Is it time to say good bye to Ort?
  3. Thanks as always Moon.
  4. With one of the largest contracts given out, it's no brainer and nothing wrong with hoping Sale would give the Sox SOMETHING. It remains to be seen how much he has left in his tank. Whether his early struggles are rust coming off of 3 years of no activity or if it's a permanent decline remains to be seen. I am also curious about how Kluber finished out last year. What did Bloom see that we haven't seen from Kluber thus far? I'm also not expecting much from Paxton if he does return. I'm just excited that Houck has developed additional arsenal to become a starter, Bello is evolving and developing (unfortunate that he had a setback during spring training), Whitlock hopefully will come around from the hip injury he sustained last year and Pivetta will continue to give us the innings and every fifth start. I've not given up on Kutter also as a starter. He looks like a better option than Kluber at this point. We're still ahead of last year's pace in April. It doesn't feel like we're in last place.
  5. Devers contract also doesn't kick in until 2024 so really has no place in this year's finances. The problem is BECAUSE we threw money at Kluber we are now obligated to give him 10 starts at minimum. You don't think Bello doesn't watch Kluber and thinks to himself I am better ?
  6. You are correct. This is why we get a Kluber.
  7. This was on Sale. Couldn't protect 4-0 lead. I've had enough of our veteran pitchers. Rather lose with our young guys.
  8. Arroyo's confidence is shot.
  9. So we keep making the same mistake?
  10. What is f***ing magical about having a struggling pitcher give up a 4 run lead just so he can go 5 innings? Cora doesn't think that we're going to WASTE Winckowski's arm in a losing cause? f*** Cora.
  11. Sale's got nothing. At some point, he's going to run out of excuses. Next time he says I sucked, everyone's going to agree and say YEP.
  12. I think Kutter is available so Sale just needs to complete 5.
  13. It was all about not wasting a pitching spot for 5 days sitting on the bench vs having a reliever over the next few games.
  14. Bello has been sent down and a lefty reliever called up. No point in having a starter sit on the bench and not be available. Houck has made the cut. No way Sox was going to give up on Kluber. Bloom would ather lose the season than admit he is wromg about Kluber. Lets hope Kluber gets it together or we will lose every fifth day.
  15. I hope you're not counting me in that 'some' poster. My only comment was not getting the hitting production out of LF and 1B. Look mom, after one game, Yoshida's OPS jumped to .700's.
  16. I'm getting concerned about our pen usage with having a 6 man rotation. It's great that a starter is getting an extra day's rest but at what cost? Kutter and Winckowski can't go back to back days, needing two or three days rest sometime. Janssen is good for one inning. That's puts stress on Bleier, Ort, Schreiber and Brasier. We will be off the 19 straight games schedule soon. We need to get back to 5 man. It's one thing if all the starters are going 6 innings, but we're not there yet. Cora's got some tough decisions to make.
  17. Chang plays solid D at short. I am more concerned about our starting pitching, 1B and Arroyo's inability to 'seize' the moment when given the chance.
  18. Sorry, this is a response to Old Red on Yoshida I agree. He simply has not made hard contacts we were promised. I tend to be optimistic but he has to show it on the field. Our expectation is higher for a player signed to $90M for 5 years. It's more of an indictment on Bloom than on Yoshida.
  19. I posted before his 2 HR. I have Yoshida in my core group. We have him for 5 years at $180M. No way we give up on him. I was merely pointing out we were not getting O production out of traditional hitting positions. We are all on the same page. I like Tapia but the emergence of Duran may phase him out with now 4 left handed hitting OF. I have always been a fan of Duran but he had to get on base. I'd be happy for him to join the core group going foward. You can't teach speed.
  20. I just want to thank Cora for bringing Ort. The guy has no mental acuity. 4 straight balls, ignores the base runner, then a wild pitch. We deserve to lose. I hope Cora enjoyed watching the game slip away.
  21. Offensively my concern is in LF and 1B. They are hitting positions. Ws are not getting the offensive production out of those two spots. If they hit, then Chang at SS and Wong behind the plate becomes irrelevant offensively.
  22. I wasn't suggesting moving Winckowski to starter role. BUT if we had to, say Sale and someone else gets hurt, it's nice to know we have options. I'm just having fun....I have all my chores done. Waiting for Must See TV....Bello's second start of the year.
  23. Rolling Power Rating for our Starters 1 Chris Sale...maybe his demise announced by our Yankee fan here was premature. 2 Tanner Houck (And our manager thinks he should go to the pen? Really?) 3 Whitlock (1 out of 3 start is not great) 4 Nick Pivetta (he's the true definition of mediocrity) 5 Bello...can move up to #3 with a strong start today 6 Kutter....not ready to give up on him, second only to Tanner in "*uc* you demeanor. Love it. 7 Winckowski...his arsenal has improved. 8 Paxton.....he may stay at #8 as he racks up IL time 9 Kluber...his tank looks empty
  24. The problem is no matter what the fWAR say, no one is going to give Vaz $20M per year. Right now there's only one catcher worthy of that contract and I don't have to see any metrics.
  25. Here's my latest Red Sox Core Group Watch..building for the future. (Team Control assuming options picked up) 1B Casas (6 years) He has already broken the record for single season check swings, previously held by Xander 2B Story (5 years) SS Mayer (6+ years, when promoted) 3B Devers (11 years) LF Yoshida (5 years) New to the group RF Verdugo, yep only 2 years of team control but EXTENSION maybe on the way? Hey we jumped the gun on Barnes. CF Duran, (6 years) yep on the heels of good hitting week. He looks like a rock star C WONG (6 years)....He looks to be the guy that will lead us to more wins than any other catcher. PS for entertainment purpose only.
