As trade deadline approaches, Red Sox listening on Alex Verdugo (sources) I seem to get mocked when I suggested the Sox may trade Verdugo to get a controlled starting pitcher (I think it was Moon) or that somehow I make things up. Well here it is. It matters NOT what anyone here thinks. It matters MOST what Bloom and his underlings are thinking. The theme is this and 99% of posters get it. BUILD THE CORE GROUP TO GO AFTER TITLES. That means productive players under TEAM CONTROL. Unfortunately for both Pivetta and Verdugo, they are in their Arbitration Year 2, meaning one more year before hitting FA. The article CONFIRMS there's been no discussion of extension with the Verdugo camp. Now that's not to say that it won't happen over the winter. My feeling is Bloom is comfortable with prospects of Rafaela and Abreu coming up and filling the spots in outfield next year. Maybe not in the spring but by mid-summer. You can always find a Duvall to fill in for awhile.

Maybe you should sit this one out, Moon. You and Bellhorn will fight for Kike till the end? I'm with Notin on this. Cora hurt our chances of getting into the playoffs because of him not acting quickly enough on resolving the issue of Kike playing short. Period. Am I wrong?

You really have become an apologist for Kike. Who the heck knows what half the things people say are true or not. Despite having the WORST WAR in the majors, Kike was complaining about lack of consistent playing time. A good team player would have said "I need to make most of the opportunity I do get and help this team".....is it time for you to color your hair and wear pink shoes?

Not sure the urgency to move Trevor to short. Unless Sox are planning to play Turner at 2B more than once a week. I get it that you don't want to shuffle Trevor from 2B to SS every other game.....but I sure would want to protect his arm. We have a big investment in this guy. He needs to be on the field and not in the dugout.

Trevor Story's contract. He is signed through 2027, thus he has 4 years remaining. There is a club option for $25M for 2028 with a $5M buyout. Trevor can opt out after 2025 BUT SOX CAN NEGATE THAT BY PICKING UP THE 2028 CLUB OPTION. Got it? Never seen this type of a contract before. Basically he's here until 2027, and maybe through 2028, unless he's traded. He does get his 10 years of major league service in after the 2025 season. My head is spinning.

Max Scherzer agreed not to exercise his opt out after 2023 (doubt he would have at $43M). Texans and the Mets basically splitting the $43M for 2024 season. A good deal for both teams.

It's odd that in another chat site, fans were insinuating that Kike was selfish and some of his teammates were getting tired of his me first antics.

Bring up a guy that can field ss. There must be hundreds of these guys. You know defense first shortstops. Christ we got Reyes from Oakland for $75K. Think hard about that. What option did a ball club with $215M payroll have? You guys kill me.

Kike is a veteran. His low offensive production was secondary to his bad defense. Casa was a high ranking rookie. You stick him in 9th hole and carry him. It's paid off.

Thank you. Finally a poster with unbiased view on Cora. Cora is a good manager. But he was wrong on Kike. I like Bloom. But he has made many missteps. Going over the tax limit last year without going for it was a big mistake. Don't half ass it Bloom.

Kike is NOT playing short for LA. Playing Kike after after announcing he would not play short was troubling shoeed his bias. Yeah the whole planet is wrong except for Cora when it came to Kike. I'm for one enjoying watching the Sox play without Kike.

You keep talking about adding a decent pitcher. The whole point of the article was about trading Verdugo for a pitcher knowing you have Duvall to play RF. If you think Bello has receached his ceiling then I say really? He is nowhere close to his ceiling.

ESPN announcers kept talking about Casa should move up in the lineup. It happens tonight. Masslive wrote frequently about trading Kike. They clearly saw what was happening. Something Cora refused to admit. Masslive now thinks Verdugo is expendable. Reason? They think this is his ceiling. They might be right.

Masslive Outside of the box trade Go with Yoshida, Duran and Duval. Verdugo is maxed out. Trade him for a pitcher. I bet the Yankees would want him.

I am hoping Turner opts in for 2024. Beyond that he is holding up a younger player because I think Yoshida is better off at DH spot. I want to see Abreu and Rafaela. If they fail I rather have the bad news sooner than later

Had Duval not been hurt, we may have never discovered Duran. Think about that...... Don't let rentals retard the journey that Bloom is taking us. Build the core group.

We said the same thing about Kike. Never underestimate mother nature and it's toll on human body.

He's 38 and it's a terrible idea to extend him. t's time to get on with the core group. We need the DH spot for Yoshida. Duval will be gone so we need a right handed OF bat. .. CC Wong 1B Casas 2B SS Story 3B Devers LF CF Duran RF Verdugo DH Yoshida All will be here for few years with exception of Verdugo. I would expect that two openings will be filled internally by start of 2025 unless we trade for a controlled player prior to that.

He's now third in AL 1B with OPS of .837. Meanwhile, Anthony Rizzo of Yanks in 9th place with OPS of .719. Unbelievable.

It's hard to be mad when this year We found future CF in Duran We found/cemented 1B in Casas We found future C in Wong We found future bat in Yoshida We found future ace in Bello We rid of Kike We rid of Brasier (I don't care if he's a Cy Younger, he couldn't do it in Boston) It's all about collecting the core group EARLY. Am I going to be upset we don't make the playoffs? Hell no.

We finally get rid of worst WAR guy in the majors. I like this team much better. I am sure some here are disappointed.

Unlike last year our compensation pick would be higher if declines. More and more I think about it why just not hang on to him?
