As trade deadline approaches, Red Sox listening on Alex Verdugo (sources)
I seem to get mocked when I suggested the Sox may trade Verdugo to get a controlled starting pitcher (I think it was Moon) or that somehow I make things up. Well here it is.
It matters NOT what anyone here thinks.
It matters MOST what Bloom and his underlings are thinking.

BUILD THE CORE GROUP TO GO AFTER TITLES.
That means productive players under TEAM CONTROL.
Unfortunately for both Pivetta and Verdugo, they are in their Arbitration Year 2, meaning one more year before hitting FA.
The article CONFIRMS there's been no discussion of extension with the Verdugo camp.
Now that's not to say that it won't happen over the winter.
My feeling is Bloom is comfortable with prospects of Rafaela and Abreu coming up and filling the spots in outfield next year. Maybe not in the spring but by mid-summer.
You can always find a Duvall to fill in for awhile.
