  1. Good news is there is no reason not to play Rafaela and Abreu if we think we have no shot at making the playoffs. I don't think we have a chance with this pitching staff. Might as well find out if we need Verdugo. Obviously it won't cost us much to keep him.
  2. I did not finish my post. I had no issues with Kike playing short to start the year. How did I know he would struggle at short? I was upset with Cora after he said Kike shouldn't play short, but Cora returned him to short. I thought his friendship with Kike had lot to do with it. You want proof? I have none. Just my opinion. I am sure Cora is a good manager but he is not infallible. Of course we knew that. Sue me Moon. I know I'm not perfect like many of you here.
  3. Let's hear it from all the Cora apologists. You know same ones that defended him in Kike at shortstop experiment.
  4. In a critical series, after taking 4-3 lead in the fifth, this is the best Cora can come up with?
  5. Nice job managing. Why don't we just forfeit tomorrow so we can rest our pitching staff? We have 13 pitchers and this the best we can do? Hell Moon might as well manage this this team. He can't do much worse.
  6. BOSTON — Ceddanne Rafaela, one of the top handful of prospects in the Red Sox’s player development system, was added to the team’s active roster Monday as the club made a flurry of moves. Rafaela was promoted to fill the spot of outfielder Wilyer Abreu, who was placed on the paternity leave list Monday. Abreu, too, made his major league debut last week while the team was in Houston. The Sox also added infielder David Hamilton while placing infielder Pablo Reyes on the 10-day IL with an elbow injury. I really like these moves......no more holding back high level prospects. Roll them out and see what they can do. Deal all the cards for everyone to see.
  7. Yep, but he looks to be our future ace unless we sign someone above him. He's mentally tough. He's not afraid to get in a tough spot and get out of it.
  8. I'm pretty sure Adrain Beltre signed with Boston to showcase his talent after an injury riddled season the previous year. It seemed like we didn't really go after him. Yeah, I am kidding about the first part.
  9. By the numbers, WAR for pitchers. T8th, 3.5 Bello T37th, 2.6 Martin T49th, 2.3 Kutter T79th, 1.7 Paxton T106th, 1.4 Bernardino T106th, 1.4 Jansen T106th 1.4 Winckowski T132nd, 1.2 Pivetta T191st, 0.8 Sale Thank goodness for Bello, Kutter and Martin. Another wasted year for Whitlock. Biggest disappointment for me. Turning into a Matt Barnes.
  10. 4 years later we are still talking about Betts. Come to think of it I thought Sox should have pursued signing Adrian Beltre much more aggressively after his walk off year in Boston. We couldn't settle on a third baseman for a long time after his departure. Not until Mike Lowell came around.
  11. Moon, my response was NOT questioning Cora. It was made to a poster who thought questioning Verdugo's ability in light of him leading the Sox in War this year was off base. You are arguing with the wrong person.
  12. It's more about letting Verdugo go through his final arbitration year is my issue. Extend him or trade him. It's business. And to remind you, last year he sucked as a defender by MANY on this board. And now he's a Gold Glove candidate. What happened? I hope he got better because he worked hard at it. Not because he was lazy in the past. His attitude has been questioned by his manager, not by me.
  13. Just saw the last page from yesterday. All the talk about Betts. Let's just say that I'm glad at the very least we got Wong for trading Betts. I'm not sure what will happen to Verdugo but we also got something out of him the last 3 years and he may give us more in a trade this winter. I think how Abreu does over next 30 days will determine Verdugo's fate. I love his power potential.
  14. 1. Alex Verdugo RF 2. Justin Turner DH 3. Adam Duvall LF 4. Triston Casas 1B 5. Trevor Story SS 6. Pablo Reyes 2B 7. Wilyer Abreu CF 8. Connor Wong C 9. Luis Urías 3B Abreu starting versus a lefty opener no less. Not complaining at all. I want him in the lineup everyday. Rob Refsnyder is out after going 2-4 yesterday with a double. Yoshida is out again. Batting .250 in August, his worst month.
  15. Let's enjoy the game today at 1:35 pm. Looking forward to Houck pitching. Have a great day, all Sox fans. Adios.
  16. Bellhorn04 Have you seen all my posts today? See the one about I said I like my current team? I bitched mostly about two players and they are both gone.
  17. I can't remember off top of my head.....I think two players were held out that Sunday. Maybe it was a night game before an afternoon game. I'm not a fan of scheduled time off but I do see the other side of the argument. (I don't have access to MassLive archives but I bet one of you can go back on THIS thread and find a discussion about it.)
  18. Be careful....you'll get Cora fans pissed off about 'scheduled' time off. They need to be fresh for April 2024. PS. Giving a player Sunday off before the All Star Break did it for me. You treat them like babies, they will act like babies.
  19. Yep, you're saying it's doable and I'm witcha ya. (wasn't Clement the guy that got hit in the head or something and was never the same?)
  20. By the numbers.....looking at 2024 luxury tax payroll (no arbitration payroll included), $237M threshhold 1 Orioles $21M (can you say, 'crap'?) 2 Rays $99M (but includes $16M for Wander) 3 Jays $141M 4 Sox $157M 5 Yankees $196M (this team sure looks old and slow) Scary to think what the Orioles can buy.
  21. Having Jansen and Martin come back will give us head start going into 2024.
  22. hedge fund manager Steve Cohen purchased the Mets for about $2.475 billion in November, 2020 Opening Mets Payroll under Cohen. 2023 $330,685,945 ( 1) 2022 $264,498,338 ( 2) 2021 $195,448,964 ( 3) Maybe John Henry and Steve Cohen can swap teams. I'll say one thing about hedge fund managers. They know when they are holding a LOSER. Mets' luxury tax payroll at start for 2023 was $376M. It will be $243M, which includes $55M for 3 players not playing in 2024. Mr. Verlander, Cohen paid $10M for the balance of your 2023 payroll and $25M for 2024 just to get rid of you. That's what he thought of you in the end. He probably thinks you stole his money. But by all means, act tough. (but if we trade for you, I'll be your fan.)
  23. They are professionals. I never said anything about 'quitters'. I like my current Red Sox. The time is running out. I will say that there's only one person responsible for this season. It's the guy that signed Kluber. He more than anyone else put us three games behind the wild card teams. We were slow to react to Kluber's ineptitude. The $10M price tag may had something to do with it. He's been put out to the pasture. There will be time to reflect on this much later, when the season is over. I think Bloom has done many right things and I don't think he should be fired. He'll be judged before April 1st, 2024. We'll see if he does enough to correct the team composition. Or will it be another hope and a prayer season?
  24. Our starters are struggling. I just don't see us going on a streak to gain grounds. Not sure going 6 out of 10 will get the job done. Running out of time.
  25. Great pitching staff will get us title 5. Our core position players are pretty well set. We will always need a Turner/Duvall type rentals but they can be found. Start with 2 aces. Maybe Bello will take another step forward. We can't count on sale. I think we will move away from him. Paxton is fading fast. Who here thought Kutter would be our top 3 starter? We need to do the Texas hustle. Sign as many starters as possible and see who sticks on the wall.
