  1. We have not used an opener in 7 games... Our rotation should be going forward starting Tuesday Pivetta Paxton Sale Bello Crawford I heard Cora say they are stretching out Houck. We have Jansen, Martin, Winckowski, Schreiber, Whitlock, Bernardino, Houck, Murphy and Llovera in the pen? Walter may still be in the mix. Not sure if we could have done much better at the trade deadline.
  2. I bet he throws harder than Kluber.
  3. Just let me dream for a minute.....and sign Soto year later.
  4. Or, we can simply sign Ohtani for 10 year $650M and sign a second starter at $15M....lol Go with the outfield of Yoshida, Duran and Rafaela and Ohtani as DH. We gain two starting pitchers. Trade Verdugo and save $6M. Maybe Pivetta too. Quality over quantity.
  5. Jansen and Martin will come off the payroll after 2024, $23.5M. Maybe Houck and Whitlock can replace them at better price. ($4.8 for Whitlock) I think Sale's 2025 option will be picked up assuming he is healthy, it's only $20M and $5M is deferred. Healthy Sale at $15M seems reasonable to me.
  6. 2024 Projected Payroll $29.100M Devers (3B) $25.600M Sale (SP) $23.333M Story (SS) $18.000M Yoshida (DH) $16.000M Jansen (CL) $07.500M Martin (Set Up) $04.688M Whitlock (RP) $02.000M Refsnyder (Utility) $20.000M Insurance, etc $147.00M (assumes Turner opts out). $237.00M Tax Threshhold $90.00M available $01.5M McGuire © $15.0M Wong ©, Reyes (2B), Houck (SP), Bello (SP), Kutter (SP), Winck (RP), Schreiber (RP), Duran (OF), Rafaela (OF), Bernardino (RP), Murphy (RP), Walters (RP), Reliever (1), utility (2) $07.0M Verdugo (RF) $06.5M Pivetta (SP) $30.0M I say we have $60M available assuming all the pre arbitration players are signed for $1M each. (see the 15 players I have listed) $60M MINIMUM more if Bloom can convince Henry to go for it.
  7. I will go along with Whitlock and Houck in the pen. Whitlock seems too frail to pitch 170 innings and maybe not as successful if starting. But the two would really strengthen our pen.
  8. Cody Bellinger 1b-of 1 year/$17.5M (2023), plus 2024 option 1 year/$17.5M (2023), plus 2024 mutual option signed by Chicago Cubs as a free agent 12/6/22 23:$12.5M, 24:$25M mutual option ($5M buyout) award bonus: $1M for Comeback Player of the Year Should we have any interest in him? Add power. He can play center field and Rafaela right, or vice versa. Duran in left. Trade Verdugo. Yoshida to DH. I saw him in Wrigley. Good looking hitter.
  9. I am also done ranting about Whitlock starting. Go in peace. Bullpen seems more fitting for him and his arm. Our pen all the sudden looks much stronger for next year. Starters, Starters, and Starters, please John Henry.
  10. 10 hits from our top 5......not bad.
  11. The roster is all set up for the playoff chase....that became very clear when the trading deadline past. There's really not much more Bloom can do now. We now wait only on Houck's return. I would think Rafaela would help with his defense and speed but who drops if he get the call?
  12. Glad to see Cora take out Crawford and not worry about giving him a chance at a 'win'. They are all must games now and managed as such.
  13. Cubs, White Sox and the Reds games are the games blacked out on my MLB subscriptions. Fox games are on MLB tv. Not ESPN. Not Peacock. Screw the Friday night Apple TV games. Ugh. I'm okay with MLB raising my fee to cover the cost of black out games, within reason of course.
  14. During 2022, I did chuckled at what the Rangers did. Signed Seager to 10 year, $325M deal and Semien to a 7 year, $175M deal. The team did not look much better to me. At least they were not on my radar. But the owner tried. Ranger then followed those signings with adding a slew of quality starting pitchers. It was a two year plan now looking back. I hope we are at year one of two year 'go for it' plan. Our core group is emerging position wise. It's time to do whatever to add starting pitchers. Trade some farmhands if you have to. Sign some free agents. We have in the pen, possibly, Whitlock, Houck, Schreiber, Winckowski, Pivetta, Martin, Janssen, Crawford, Bernadino, etc. Couple of them might start. If we don't go for it in 2024, I'll be very disappointed.
  15. Rafaela can also play short. We conplain about D. Duvall goes 0-4 with 4 K' s last night. He looked stupid in RF. He does NOTHING for me.
  16. Not sure why it took so long to get Reyes back. I got the sense they were working on a Kike trade. He is more valuable than Chang. I read somewhere Chang is not good at 2B.
  17. Rafaela is superb defender. I'm not advocating whole slew of AAA guys to come to Boston. But I like to see Rafaela sooner rather than later.
  18. Bernadino, Jacques along with Murphy and Walter have come up. But I cede to your point. Bello, Whitlock, Houck, Schreiber, Winckowski are all under team control for few years.
  19. Never forget that we had one of our best starters Paxton pitching the game 1 in a crucial series. He got hammered for multiple home runs. We also had a chance to win game 2 but poor baseball plays doomed us. Sale should pitch the openers. But our astute baseball people will insist on wasting his bullets facing minor leaguers for multiple starts. How many games does Story need to get up to speed? Ugh.
  20. Our pitching #10-#13 needs an upgrade. Sale, Whitlock and Houck will help. I get that once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen. I'm just not convinced Sox can do it this year even we get a wildcard spot. It's almost time to bring up Rafaela and see if he can play RF for outgoing Verdugo.
  21. We often chose offense over defense. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's ugly.
  22. Xander, 52 runs, 11 HR, 37 RBI in 400 AB. First year of 11 year, $25M+ AAV contract. No thanks
  23. We need back up plan, A, B & C.
  24. Sale Bello Crawford Houck Whitlock I hope he goes after the Japanese pitcher. The phenom.
  25. I'm extremely happy with the emergence of Duran, Casas, Wong and Bello. Bloom did extend Devers. I guess we can blame Bloom for signing injury prone players such as Sale, Paxton and Story. I was okay with Kike signing had he played centerfield and 2B, not shortstop. I am NOT saying I knew beforehand Kike was bad at short. I had no idea. Kluber just sucks. I like this team.
