    Off topic. Does anyone know why Newcomb started 31 games for Atlanta in 2018 but was jettisoned to the pen in 2019? What gives? He had a pretty good year as a starter.

    So we dodged a bullet NOT signing Jordan Montgomery. He had a horrendous year for Arizona and now he's out for the year with Tommy John surgery. Jordan had exercised his option to play for the Diamondbacks in 2025 for $22,500,000. If you recall he was a last minute signee near the end of spring training last year. Some though we had chance due to the fact that his wife doing her internship in Boston (?). He would be a perfect pickup for the Red Sox in 2026. You know, pay him low salary so he can continue to rehab and attach an option for $20M for 2027. That's what we do, isn't it?

    It would be nice to extend Crochet but the management appears to be lasered focused on developing pitching talent. I like the direction we're headed.

Campbell 6 yrs (2B) Wong 4 yrs (C) Casas 4 yrs (1B) Abreu 5 yrs (RF) Rafael 7 yrs (CF) Devers 9 yrs (DH) Story 3 yrs (SS) Duran 4 yrs (LF) Romy 4 yrs (utility) Hamilton 5 yrs (utility) Narvaez 6 yrs (C) We also have Mayer and Anthony waiting......Mayer is one injury to Story from moving up. Our positional roster is set up pretty well for foreseeable future.

    Technically, it's how many DAYS he spends on the major league roster. I believe the magic number is 174 days (just going by memory). ML baseball season lasts 187 days.     Your response to my post makes absolutely no sense. My point was we have many injured players coming back, Trevor Story and Casas to mention just two. Getting more at bat and defense from Story will improve the Sox. Bregman will also outperform Tyler offensively and defensively. Who in the hell said anything about making anyone full time anything?

    Interesting Cot's just within last couple of minutes reduced luxury tax payroll on Bregman from $40M to $31.704M. We are under the tax limit by $566K. I don't really care what the total outlay is. I only care about the luxury tax payroll. This signing looks better and better. I hop he hits 60 HR, wins the World Series MVP and opts out. Then extend Croshet to a $320M, 8 year deal with an opt out after second year.

    This should be a 90 game winning team just having players healthier than last year. 2024 Casas 63 games and 212 AB Story 26 games and 94 AB Yoshida 108 games and 378 AB Tyler 113 games and 411 AB (this is the right handed bat we're looking to replace with Bregman who has played 145, 161 and 155 games for Houston the last three years.) Our defense will be much better with Story and Bregman in the linuup. How can we not be optimistic?

    Here's my post from 1/27th. The topic was what to do with unspent $40M in luxury tax payroll for 2025 season on that date. Unfortunately you're right. I hate that our management has no imagination. I KNOW that he wants a long term deal. I don't believe we should give him 5/6 year deal with what we have coming up. This is when you become bold and tell Boras, come to Fenway for 1 year and hit 40HR and re-establish higher value. Here take $30-$35M on a one year deal. The fact that they are unwilling to take any financial risk at this time (even just for one year deal) tells me that they are cheap and just wants to play the youngsters. That's fine if you are consistently in the playoffs but we're not.

    So what? $30-$35M is just sitting there. So you're now afraid of INJURY? And what if he hits what he did last year? You never gamble on someone's upside? Especially a right handed pull hitter that will play 81 games in Fenway. The topic was more in line of what to do with $40M in unspent luxury tax payroll. A one year deal seems perfect. Do you think somehow you're get a cut of unspent money? LOL

    If the idea is to play Anthony and Campbell this year at LF and 2B, I would save the 'money' for next year's FA class. Unfortunately, we still have too many questions with this roster especially from injury standpoint. Technically, we're 'getting' new players from free agency, minors and the injury list. Anthony Campbell Crochet Whitlock Casas Giolito. Buehler Champman Hendriks Sandoval I'm sure I'm missing couple of more names. My point is we have enough 'new' players that needs to be molded with returning players. Get a cheap right handed bat, another reliever and call it the day

    Let's see. Cora wants to see Hamilton play outfield. Hamilton bats left. Abreu bats left. Duran bats left. Without having seen Hamilton play left field, I'm pretty sure he's a better outfielder than Yoshida. When healthy, Yoshida may be a very good hitter. Another expensive signing to mask coming up short on players that we really needed. We are always willing to let a free agent get away on $3-$5M per year differential but very willing to give out $90M to a guy that I think I can outrun.

    But if you’re not willing to pay for Crochet in 2027 and beyond after you made it clear you believe in him enough to move 4 of your top 15 prospects in your system, then what the hell are you doing? If I don't see an extension, Bres will hear from me every day until he quits.

    I would keep him. I think he'll be our starting CF on April 1st.

    I've always thought that we should bring up promising rookies in late April to give us an 'extra' year of team control, a la 4 arbitration years plus 3 years at minimum. I had forgotten that Rookie of the Year now brings in an extra draft pick. I'm hoping Campbell has an outstanding Spring and comes up North with the varsity team. His ceiling seems much higher than that of what's his face from Atlanta.
