  1. I see that Frank Arias has been playing second base. Is he being auditioned for other clubs showing his versatility or is he getting readied to play second base for the Sox?
  2. $50M for 8 years really looks good for a gold glove center fielder who is beginning to hit.
  3. I'm thinking maybe Bres thinks he has nothing to lose at his point. Maybe? The worst thing he can do at this trade deadline is to nickel and dime and us not get into the playoffs. It's time for him to do something he's uncomfortable.
  4. Also, the 8 year $50M deal for Rafaela that runs through 2031 is looking better and better. I also think Bello's can establish some value remainder of the year. A $9M for next 3 years plus option doesn't sound outrageous for a team desperate for starting help.
  5. Supposedly we were interested in Juan Soto. I know his contract runs longer than Anthony's. (this is in response to my original post about needing an upgrade on Left Field among other positions) How about shipping Anthony and Duran to Mets for Soto? Soto's $51M less Anthony's $16M would put the net luxury tax at $35M. The cash is $46M beginning 2030 for Soto. How much money would you ask in return to do this deal? Soto's OPS is hovering .947 with 21 HR while you never know when Anthony's pinky will heal. He would fit in nicely in left field. DH in later years. If the Mets give us $100M, would you do it? I can see Mets owner thinking twice about the $750M deal. Any idea what we would have to give up to obtain Skubal? I think Soto, Skubal and a closer would complete this team.
  6. what is our infield situation right now? 1B Contreras (.945) 1ST IN AL 3B Durbin (.704) 7TH IN AL BIG CLIMB LAST MONTH SS Monasterio (.774) 12TH IN AL AS A TEAM 2B Seigler (.743) 15TH IN AL AS A TEAM LF Duran (.589) 14TH IN AL CF/RF Gold Gloves (.768 & .754) DH Yoshida (.716) 12TH IN AL CC Team (.626) LAST IN AL Looks to me like we need a hitting left fielder. Catching is dead last, 2B is dead last, DH is 12th in AL Absolutely Unacceptable for a team that plays in Fenway half the time. Left field is 14th in AL. And you say Arias can't help this team. How can he do worse?
  7. I'd say roll the dice with Bello tomorrow....let him pitch until the arm falls off.
  8. "you owe it to those players in the dugout to go for it more than not" That's what I am always thinking. The clock is ticking every day for 26 guys in the dugout. Breslow can not be 'wasting' another year. Always looking for 'next year'. If the team needs a position filled, find that guy and you play him. What are we saving Arias for? 2028? He is NOT going to cost the Sox anything in terms of service time. We'll have him for six years starting in 2027. Stop the frekin' nonsense about he will be damaged if first doesn't succeed. Are you telling me he's worse than SEIGLER? Play the best 26 out there.
  9. I have been reprimanded for understating Anthony's injury. I though it was just his pinky. Apparently its more serious than that. I can't hate him because he has a pretty sister who looks more fit than he does.
  10. I know he only had two at bats, but he has become my favorite Red Sox along with Triston Casas, Kutter Crawford and Tanner Houck.
  11. All hands on deck.....call up Franklin Arias. How much worse can he do than Durbin?
  12. With good starting pitching, everything is possible. 4 game lead in the loss column for the last wildcard spot is HUGE.
  13. Pitching, Pitching Pitching....I think we need another closer type. Our starting pitching is solid especially if 6 innings is covered by the starters. We could upgrade our pen. Good example was two days ago when it could've easily gone sideways with Weissert giving up 3 runs. Slaten's ERA gives me no comfort.
  14. Franklin Arias is one step closer to joining the Boston Red Sox. Most of you dismissed the idea of him playing in the majors this year. Well he's one step closer. Why should we spend big money on another contract on a shortstop. If I'm the owner I would insist on playing him first. Quit getting stuck with non productive contracts such as Story and Yoshida, yes Yoshida. He's an overpay. What are we going to do with Kristian Campbell? Looks like Sandoval is a bust at his price. Good thing we didn't give Mayer a longer term so called 'hometown' discount contract. What about trading Anthony for Skubal? With Anthony's $17M coming off the books, we can offer Skubal $50M for two years and two option years at the same price. Net cost would $33M per year on luxury tax payroll. Think big. You think Skubal would turn that down? Anthony's contract runs through 2033? Give Skubal $350M for 7 years. Half kidding of course but serious about our young shortstop.
  15. Lets go REDS...playing Mariners who are two games back of Sox (3 games in loss column)
  16. Definition: A noun referring to a person with white or light-colored skin. I'm pretty sure no one would think I have light-colored skin. Whatcha talkin bout, Max? All good!
  17. Tolle vs 4-9 pitcher with ERA of 4.19. We should score runs.
  18. What do you want to know? Anthony's pinky still doesn't feel right. He's not swinging the bat. I don't think Crochet has thrown in weeks. My guess is Anthony will have a surgery this winter and won't return until next July. That's what we're good at. Paying injured players good money to rehab. Sandoval will earn $18.5M for 9 1/3 innings pitched so far in two starts. And they told us he maybe back last September. Not going to be negative. We don't need Anthony and Crochet. They have done NOTHING this year to contribute. We have won without them.
  19. “We’re not going to resume hitting if there’s still discomfort in the hand,” Tracy said, per The Boston Globe. “That’s a big piece of our lineup. It would be great to get him back. The whole point is we don’t want our player, that player, to play injured, especially when it comes to swinging the bat. So, just continuing to get him to where he feels very confident in his mind that that hand feels good. That’s our goal.” So it's just up to Anthony? No medical opinion offered? Heck horse owners spend more money taking care of their investment.
  20. I sure have forgotten about Story, Anthony and Mayer. Pitching really matters more.
