  1. Is it time to convert one of infielders to outfield? What happens if Bradley Jr is out for an extended time? Do we have another "Betts" in the system? I'm looking for defense. I'm thinking Hernandez....
  2. Of all the problems I can think of right now for the Sox, catching ain't it.
  3. We do know that when Cherington pulled the 'trigger', he failed. Pablo and Hanley's contracts will hamstring us for another 3 years. And the biggest fail was NOT signing Lester. THAT led to Price signing by DD. I'm not crazy about Kimbrel signing but have you watched the games? It's critical to have a closer. He should have came in and pitched with two runners on in the 8th inning game the other day. Walking 4 batters and losing the lead forcing a tie game is the exact time when you bring in your closer to strike out a batter and keep the game tied. Kimbrel faced 6 batters yesterday. What the f*** is difference had he come in with 2 outs in the 8th? Go ahead and put a 6 batter limit if you must. If he faces more than 6 batters to get 4 outs, well he must not have it anyway and needs to come out or we've already lost the game. Obviously JF is not a poker player and has no idea about odds. Just ask Baltimore fans how they feel about 'saving' their closer.
  4. http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2017/04/chris_sales_secret_weapon_on_t.html#incart_2box Good write up about Sale on him changing up speeds on fastballs, calls it Batting Practice fastball.
  5. after watching 3 sub par starting pitching performances, I'm ready for Sale. What if tomorrow was Clay's turn? Ugh....
  6. No worries....he just walked two....teased Martinez...... He falls in love with his curve at times. Just learn to throw strikes bud!
  7. Here we go...obligatory walk by Kimbrel
  8. I have to disagree there....it took every bit of Price and Kimbrel
  9. Oh by the way, now that Clay is gone he's become quite a legend around here among some of you.....he pitched 5 innings, gave up 8 hits, 2 walks and 4 runs. Yeah, I miss him too.
  10. Unless you can offer an alternative ..... So what would you have done on your official first off season? You got hired because the team just finished dead last for second year in a row. "We have five aces" strategy did not work. You would just sit tight? Offer some scenarios. You can't simply continue to critique without offering solution.
  11. Nope, I will always give credit to the team for going for a win, even in our 3rd game. That's why I will never second guess DD for trading for Pom last year. He owed every player on the 25 man roster every chance to win the pennant. How can you sacrifice a whole year's worth of effort from Pedy, Ortiz, Betts, Bradley Jr, etc for a kid who may or may not pitch in the majors? He did the right thing. I bet Miller would have come in.
  12. JF did not want to put in Kimbrel in a 4 out situation this early in the year. What the hell does that mean? I've seen Kimbrel face 5 or 6 hitters in 9th inning. With two runners on and two out, tie game, isn't this the time to put your 'best finisher'? He could possibly faced only 4 batters in getting those 4 outs. With 4 outs to go, and that first out being most critical, why not pitch him and take him out if the pitch count gets out of hand? U ultimately is it not the pitch count that matters the most? I'm sorry but I WANT TO SCREAM, WHAT A BUNCH OF *USSIES. Cy Young would be rolling in his graves. I almost forgot, we are at a disadvantage because we have to overcome our inept manager. Edge goes to Cleveland.
  13. JF did not want Kimbrel to go for four outs today. Maybe in the future, but not game #3. What the f*** is wrong with our society. Do we have to baby a guy making $12.5M? We had a chance to win today. Up 5-4. I'M JUST GOT TO SCREAM. WHY ARE WE SUCH WUSSIES ANYMORE?
  14. This lineup is no fun to watch.....Betts, Hanley and Xander gone....ugh
  15. My problem with Pom is his demeanor on the mound. He looks to lack confidence. And by the way I feel same about Barnes. What he said after his first outing was all b.s. That he was 'surprised' to get the call? Porcello says "be ready next time out". When E Rod pitches well, he looks to be unhittable. I'm looking forward to next 30 days...one scheduled day off.
  16. We need for E Rod to step up this year. As I've mentioned before, this year corresponds to Lester's breakout year he had as a young Sox hurler. As with most young pitchers, it's all about control and locating his pitches for E Rod. Then we can wait patiently on Groome to arrive around 2020.
  17. By the way, Sale would have been much better had he gotten strike calls for pitches in lower strike zone. I counted at least 6 strikes at the knees that were not called. Ump at least was consistent, opposing pitcher did not get strike calls at the bottom either. He is good.
  18. Lets beat a new horse... Groome, Devers and Pomeranz enough to get Q?
  19. All I know and all I care about is Sale getting 2 starts per playoff games per series. He has PRESENCE on the mound. For that reason alone, we have improved more than anyone else.
  20. So both Pom and Espi have experienced forearm tightness?
  21. Looks like E Rod and Wright will flip so Wright can follow Sale. Wright will pitch Friday as previously scheduled. That will break up two lefties back to back.....Porcello, Sale, Wright, E Rod and Pom. My head is spinning from all the off field crap that's going on......but we are 2-0. Schwarber just hit a three run homer to give Cubs a 5-4 lead. Bullpen is so critical.
  22. I do it all the time and I followed him when he was at IU with Schwarber. Any other 'big' name starting pitchers out there? We might as go for broke!!! (just kidding)
  23. You are talking about Sam Travis, not Travis Shaw?
  24. Holt was not at Fenway last night due to flu symptoms. BUT I still would have played Young. It maybe that we'll get a big boost when Price returns. E Rod, Wright or Pom will go to the bullpen. And think if Carson Smith comes back strong and Thornburg returns to last year's form when he returns. Sandy Leon is a stud defensive catcher. I would hate to trade any of our catchers, including Swihart. Moreland hit .230 last year so expecting him to make more contact is wishful thinking. He hit a ball that would been a game winning home run on any other day so we have to be patient. Really encouraged by Kelly's 2 innings. We're 2-0 and get a day off. Play, sit, play, sit, waiting for spring weather to return. By the way, we now play next 30 games with 1 day off......good for Sox fans.
  25. I was most encouraged by 1 walk given up by our pitching staff over 12 innings. Sale was good as advertised. Good to see Kelly pitch well in his first outing.
