  1. “I’m going to want the ball in that situation 10 times out of nine,” said Sale about wanting to go back and pitch the ninth. “It is what it is. Do I want to? Yeah. But at the end of the day, he’s the manager and makes the calls. Check the book. Craig’s been pretty damn good back there. We ended up winning.” Yes John, why didn't you just ask him? It was his game to win.
  2. Sad thing is no one paying $10M for Pablo. Just a bad signing by Cherington. Here's the bottom line. We got lucky and rid of bad contracts to the Dodgers. Never again was the refrain we heard from Sox management. Then they turn around and sign Hanley and Pablo for $200M. Ben should have been fired.
  3. Bingo....It was a great get by DD. I don't care what Moncada and Kopech do. It was a good trade for the Sox.
  4. JF won't use Kimbrel for 4 out situation but not a big deal to use him for 6 outs? OK....
  5. Chris Sale would disagree. fyi...Sale was 14-2 on after July 2nd start last year. Then he went 3-8 to finish 17-10.
  6. are you sure they are all DH?
  7. Sale with a record of 1-0 is clearly the Cy Young award winner if season ended today.
  8. Beltran and Hanley only DHs without a homer so far.
  9. Well I don't need to see WAR to know that we have a special player in Sale.
  10. NEW YORK — The $13.5 million risk on Clay Buchholz produced two starts, a 12.27 ERA, and arm surgery Tuesday. It served as a reminder for Phillies president Andy MacPhail of how fragile and expensive veteran pitchers like Buchholz are. A reminder that the Phillies, if they are to jump in the standings, must develop young pitchers. Should be a reminder to all GMs.
  11. JBJ is an elite defender, as is Betts. Beni will be a good defensive OF, not elite. He simply does not have the athleticism of JBJ and Betts, and athleticism matters in outfield, assuming you have strong arm to go with it. Xander will never be an elite defensive SS. Beni will be a great outfielder for us but his projected ceiling is not much higher than where he is today. JBJ has a way to go to get to his ceiling, if he gets there at all.
  12. I guess the real question is was Thornburg a damaged good when we got him? How is he injured? Did he sleep wrong? If not our throwing program, then what? Did we rush him thinking he had completed his prescribed Sox regiment over the winter? I just don't get it.
  13. our singles hitting team couldn't string together enough hits...it now takes three singles to score a run...leading the league in batting average means nothing...it's all about scoring runs...
  14. No premature withdrawl from Bid Dick Rick?
  15. We have the 3rd highest payroll this year. LA Dodgers have the highest at $242M but they are paying over $50M to several players no longer playing for Dodgers. In reality there are five clubs (counting Dodgers) in the same ball park in spending, near $200M. If that's NOT an advantage going forward, I don't know what is. Spare me with doomsday scenario. Sox fans have it made with ownership group willing to spend money for good on field product. Now if we keep making mistakes as Ben did by signing Pablo for 5 yrs at $95M, our ability to spend will be negated. If we get a lousy team, it's on DD.
  16. Sox still has the advantage in money that it can throw at scouting. Obviously with good finishes we'll lose the ability to draft high. I wished that MLB would allow trading players for draft picks.
  17. Bullpen future looks bright also, of course part of it is due to 'starters' getting converted. But it's encouraging. We have NO outfielders. Need Bradley and Betts signed/extended. We have plenty of time on Beni (6 years, FA for 2023). It maybe cheaper for us to sign Pomeranz/Sale than Porcello/Sale. I wouldn't count on Groome just yet. Hard to project out on an 18 year old.
  18. He's under team control for 6 years. Why would we trade him?
  19. We might try a two for one trade to make room for Hembree, or we may just trade Ross or Hembree or create a phantom DL for someone. I'd be very surprised if everyone is truly 100% healthy.
  20. Right now we need our starting rotation to be better...
  21. Yes, I agee that he would have caught it today. Last year? He would have ate it. (it was low blow, but you teed it up for me, Kimmi)
  22. Are we a better team with Brock Holt/Selsky combo or Rutledge/Hernandez combo when Bradley Jr returns?
  23. Moreland has been impressive. $5.5M was well spent. Did I hear right that Kimbrel has converted 23 straight save opportunities? I have no doubt that DD will pick up his option for next year. If Barnes, Hembree and Kelly continue to improve and impress and Smith and Thornburg are good as advertised upon their return, then we will have pretty stout bullpen. Could use a lefty. Maybe convert B Johnson as a reliever? We could use little more consistent power from HRam. At some point, if Pablo continues to struggle at the plate, can anyone see him following Craig route? Or is his time vested so that 'exile' is an unavailable option? He needs to get on a hot streak.
  24. Having Sale highlights inadequacy of pitchers we have on our staff. As a coach, I always preach playing with since of urgency or having athletes with a 'motor' on the court/field. Sale is epitome of that type of an athlete. Compare that to Pomeranze. Oblivious to the pitch count. Not having a care as to how much the team needs him to go at least six innings. E Rod is following similar path. You can't nibble at the corners all night long. Man up. For those that's convinced that we didn't need Sale, well I think you are dead wrong. He's a role model for rest of our pitching staff.
