  1. Steven Wright returns
  2. Barnes is a pussy.
  3. Votto......Beni (Cincy kid) as the head liner, Swihart and Travis and other minor leaguers. Stanton...Xander, E Rod and others You can plug in a defensive ss. Staton plays LF. Replace E Rod with Wright. I say go big or don't do anything at all.
  4. Encarnacion was thought to be pretty good. He turned down an offer from Toronto but in the end had to settle for Cleveland offer. All I'm saying is he and other power bats over estimated their value.
  5. I don't know about that. Several power bats got passed over last winter.
  6. Yankees usually set the standards. In this case Chapman contract will showcase what NOT to do with a closer.
  7. Hell you can't have a better 9th batter.
  8. Obviously money needed elsewhere? Asking price too high?
  9. Yankees owe Chapman 4 more years at $17M per. Is that what's to going to take to re-sign Kimbrel after 2018? May need a cheaper replacement.
  10. I suggested on Game Thread that we take automatic out every time he is due up. That will speed up the game. Today that's automatic 5 outs. Shave off 15 minutes.
  11. Can we just speed up the f***ing game by taking an out every time Holt is due up? Hell that ought to save 5 minutes.
  12. Brock Holt is a joke but John Farrell is a bigger one. The day before Devers big home run vs Chapman, he benched Devers vs a left hander, BUT started Holt instead. (it may have been the same game). Is he a f***ing idiot? He actually thinks Holt hits better than Devers vs lefties? Manageres 'out think' themselves too often It's okay to have thoughts inside the box if outside the box thinking is worse.
  13. I agree. Baseball season is a marathon. You can't put the same line up day in day out. Maybe a week is not a long sample size but a month is. Devers has hit well throughout his first 20 games. He should be given opportunity to drive in runs. These are professional hitters. They are getting paid to hit. I'll be more than happy to tell a .200 guy "GET f***ING BETTER". It's about WINNING.
  14. Yep, he needed at least a month in AAA.
  15. Now that Devers has filled in nicely at 3B, Thornburg deal does not sting as much. We are 5 games up and we have a 3B with much higher ceiling than Shaw. Injury sucks but I doubt he was damaged goods at the time of trade.
  16. Other than the closer, this pretty has to be the make up of bullpen to reduce cost. Spend the money elsewhere. Workman Year 1 Scott Year 1 Barnes Year 2 Hembree Year 2 C Smith Year 3 Thornburg A2 Kelly A2 Abad A3
  17. Is it a norm to have constant injuries among our pitchers? Is that the future of mlb pitchers? Just seems like we can't catch a break. (nobody got hurt, I'm talking in general)
  18. Bottom line is we were getting pitiful production from 3B, 1B and DH spot relative to the league. 3B looks to be fixed. Moreland is playing as well as expected and what we paid for. Plus he was to share the bag with Hanley with Yound taking over the DH spot on those days. That did not happen. Hurt or otherwise, Hanley has been disappointing. There's always a nagging injury with the guy. Hell he can hurt himself just swinging the bat. Travis would be serviceable and cost effective at 1B if Devers and Hanley gives us 30 home runs apiece. Maybe we sign Nunez and see what we need at 2018 trade deadline. Our pen should be improved next year (although that can change quickly from year to year).
  19. Our pitching has carried us. DD saw an opportunity to acquire Sale and he saw this year's result as a possibility. He also continued to add pieces to our bullpen even thought it has not worked for Thornburg. It's incredulous how well we're doing despite our anemic offensive production at 3B, 1B amd DH spots. Pablo experiment failed. We now have it covered with Devers. DD went for defensive help from 1B. We are getting exactly what we paid for in Moreland. Hurt or otherwise, Hanley has not produced. A singles hitter that we're paying $19M. But we're stuck with him for two more years. Pitching and defense still rule the game. Not sure why we didn't pursue Gray either. We'll have to address contracts of both Kimbrel and Pom after 2018 season.
  20. I'd do that in a heart beat if Stanton can play 1B.
  21. I was going for 'worst case' scenario boys and girls. Don't get your panties in a bunch.
  22. With 40 games remaining and 7 1/2 game lead in wildcard race, I figure all we need is to split to capture a playoff spot. Non first place team would have to go 28-12 (.700) to move past us.
  23. Then you and your friends can retreat from the cliff?
  24. If we win it all this year, DD's approach maybe different. It maybe that he will have an opportunity to reshape the ball club. What if there's another opportunity to acquire a front line ace? How about a big bat? Not winning will put pressure to continue to add to get over the hump. Winning it all will allow us to reshape the team with one eye towards getting off the road to impending cliff.
  25. Looks like he would have fitted under the cap for this year....You can't ever have enough pitching.
