  1. I would like to hear from smart people on this board about what we can get at 4th pick....any can't miss starting pitcher? Please no high school kids...
  2. Yep, let's play by the rules. His injury was unpredictable. Not everything in life is fair. Celtics 1st round pick dying without ever playing.....Miami Marlins player dying in boat accident....Pedey getting injured is not the worst thing in life. I just hope he's able to function normally. I'd hate for him to suffer....
  3. You already knew your kid was going to flunk out school. You've already processed that. Then you didn't have to hear your neighbor brag about his son who didn't get the scholarship. There's a difference. We already knew Sox was going to suck. Now only if the Dodgers lose, trifecta.
  4. Yankees went another year without winning the pennant. In a 60 game season, many more of their arbitration players/to be players gained another year of service. Translation. The team payroll got more expensive and is coming closer the the cliff.
  5. It's really not time to butt up against the luxury tax limits with a $30M contract thrown in there.....that will cripple Bloom's ability to navigate next couple of years. You always have to remember that some of the younger talent will need bigger paycheck as time goes on..... Build a contender first, then go out and sign the best player....
  6. I guess it comes down to Bloom's ability to make/sign good deals. I love having Sale but if you gave me the option, I wouldn't want his contract right now.
  7. Other issue in the horizon is that current CBA ends after 2021 season. I thought owners got the better end of the stick last time around. But this COVID thing will be used against the players due to significant financial losses suffered by entire baseball. Sure the players suffered too but the owners will take care of themselves first. Not sure where the luxury tax threashhold is headed. If you had asked me last year I would have said jumping up to $220-$225M range but now I'm not sure. Obviously as a Sox fan, I want that number to be as high as possible. In essence it becomes our de facto player budget. Any thoughts?
  8. Core players Devers, Verdugo, Xander, Vazquez... Vaz can be extended at some point or could be a valuable trade chip. Would love to see Dalbec join this bunch.... I just don't see the playoff chase in 2021. I don't see Sale returning until All Star break. Not enough starting pitching depth. I rather Bloom continue to make incremental improvements via trades and small FA deals. But the big elephant in the room is the news that Sox had the biggest drop off in TV viewership in 2020. Not sure Henry's reaction to that. I hope he doesn't overreact. We'll see.
  9. Pedey's $13.75 after 2021 season ought to buy us a decent starter.
  10. very true.....rest of article spoke of Bloom's history with Rays to buy out couple of free agent years during player's pre-arbitration period and not wait to extend during arbitration years.
  11. The Red Sox have only four players -- Chris Sale, Xander Bogaerts, J.D. Martinez and Nathan Eovaldi -- locked into salaries through 2022, with the rest of the roster either arbitration-eligible or set to hit free agency by that point. Some of the club’s young players are candidates for extensions, even in these uncertain financial times. Music to my ears....Bloom has blank canvass to paint his masterpiece...
  12. Betts was gone when he refused our last offer.....how much did you want to pay him?
  13. Your statement makes absolutely no sense. Red Sox gave up one year of service from Betts (which later turned out to be 60 game season) for perhaps 3 future major leaguers. Do you really think we lost that trade?
  14. Well thank you....That's the type of deal that will keep the pipeline full, eventually
  15. There was much debate on this board about bringing up Moncada....several arguments against it....not ready, damage his psyche, etc. I'm glad he got an audition just to find out what he was made of....he played third because of second base being blocked by Dustin. He made his audition. Devers was deemed to be better so they had no problem including him in the deal. The one I hated to see go was Kopech.
  16. I've been impressed with Bloom so far.....his every move makes the team better....glad he's on our side...
  17. Well Kopech hasn't done anything to deserve a 4 year $68M extension. I just liked him.....we'll see about his injury but your're right. I just liked the guy when he was traded to White Sox. Obviously DD knew about Devers and Moncada was expendable because we already had a second baseman....Pedey.......oh wait...
  18. Yep, Yep, Yep....3 last places in 4 years. What did anyone expect DD to do? Stay the course? Henry didn't hire DD to improve to 4th place in standings. DD did his job, Henry no longer needed him, adios. That's how the business world works. No lifetime job guaranty.
  19. Do we try to extend E Rod in off season? Do we sign and trade him? I can see the latter happening.
  20. "Tanks for the Memories"......Classic...my coffee just came out of my mouth...
  21. Only player I want back from DD deals is Kopech....I still think he'll have a stellar career. But we did what we did to get Sale on his OLD contract. That was still a good trade.
  22. Boston would forfeit its second-highest pick and $500,000 in international signing bonus pool money. The Red Sox will draft fourth overall in 2021 if MLB decides to use 2020 win-loss records to determine draft order, as expected. The Red Sox also would have the fourth pick in the second round. Would they want to give up a second-round draft pick that high? Springer and Bauer have qualifying offer attached to them.......I think Bloom values his 5th pick in the second round...what do you think? He made Rays competitive without paying premium money on a player....I don't think its in his DNA to do it while rebuilding the farm system.
  23. Bingo....
  24. You damn right.....if Sox non tender him, what would the Yankees pay him?
  25. I'm just curious how long have all of you been a Sox fan? I've been a Sox fan since 1967 when I was 11 years old. I came here from Japan, I didn't speak English but I loved baseball. With passing of Bob Gibson, it reminded me that I could have easily been a Cardinals fan. I just think as a little boy, "Red Sox" made sense even with the language barrier. So....about 52 seasons? ps...for the younger fans, back then it was NBC and game of the week for most of the country... mlb.com subscription was not available...
