  1. Seems like we should keep an eye on this Sale guy. The Red Sox ace made his first rehab appearance on Thursday, and it seems things went pretty well. There were a few hits scattered around, but he reportedly had his fastball sitting in the 93-94 range and was seemingly hitting the zone at a decent enough rate to go without a walk. Next stop is most likely going to be in Portland on Tuesday night, and yours truly happens to have some tickets. Should be neat And there's this Sale's kid hoping to get to the majors soon...
  2. This was just a terrible game all-around for Worcester, who fell behind 7-0 after three innings and the game was just about over from there. Presumably, it would have been Tanner Houck’s turn to start and they went with a bullpen game instead. But I really want to focus on Jeter Downs, whose season has been a major disappointment. He’s been able to hide in the Jarren Duran shadow for most of the year, but with Duran up in the majors now there is nowhere to hide. After this latest 0-fer, Downs is now sitting with a .649 OPS and a strikeout rate over 30 percent. With Connor Wong also struggling — he has a .459 OPS, though he also missed a bunch of time with injury — and Alex Verdugo hitting a major slump, it is not a great stretch for the players in the Mookie deal Per OvertheMonster... And there's this....
  3. Bloom seem ecstatic with our 2nd pick from Florida(?). Many though he was a first rounder before he had slight slump this past season. Nothing we can't fix was the jest of it. Also very intrigued with the long shot, a teenage pitcher who is 6-4 and weighs 160lbs. He needs to room with Pablo. Oh wait.....never mind.
  4. Bloom is happy with the Draft... Hope to sign 13-15, maybe couple of more...... One of the draft analysis was surprised that we did not draft any 'seniors' that can be signed for $100K and save money for others. Sounds like Bloom drafted players that will skip altogether and attend college, thus saving even more money. These guys are sneaky smart.
  5. I thought so....I'm a good ranter.
  6. I think an article in MassLive said Duran will bat vs righties and some vs lefties, according to Cora. He will also play all three OF positions.
  7. I have not seen any official moves.....
  8. Not really sure why Arroyo is working out at 1B unless the team is planning to demote Dalbec.
  9. Sale actually pitched 3 innings this morning against lowly minor league team. His next stop is Portland.
  10. Duran is 6' 3" tall. He came up as second baseman. Obviously he's fielded groundballs. Why not teach him to play 1B? Unless of course he can't learn to take direct route to the first base bag. I'm only half kidding.
  11. The extra inning game that we lost when Barnes blew it, Workman was fortunate to pitch two innings and we had 2 run lead. Even the Chinese knew that we couldn't hold the lead with the guy we brought in. That games at that point should have been played to win. I repeat. THAT GAME AT THAT POINT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLAYED TO WIN. All Cora had to do was to turn to one of his upcoming starter and say, "Can you go get the win for us?" So what if said starter had to miss a turn. I would bet on Chris Sale holding a two run lead for one inning opposed to Chris Sale starting a game and winning. If we miss the playoffs by one game, I will always remember how Cora managed it. You can't go by the books. What's the big f***ing deal about pitching one inning? You can't tell me all of the three upcoming starters would have refused. How's that Oldtimer?
  12. Moon, you're valued member here. Don't ever change. I needle you from time to time but you give us volumes of good stuff.

  14. Boston Red Sox calling up Tanner Houck on Thursday; righty will join Jarren Duran on roster for series vs. Yankees per MassLive. Nothing much to add......
  15. Nope, lose to us and win vs others......I don't believe they can get back in the hunt...too many teams to overcome...Sox, Ray, Blue Jays will not ALL tank. I just want them to think they can get back in it. Wild Card Berth, 2nd spot occupied by the A's, Rays 2 1/2 up on the A's. 3 1/2 back, Seattle 4 1/2 back, Yankees, Blue Jays, Guardians 5 1/2 back, Angels The boat can only hold two passengers....
  16. Hello? Buhler? Buhler? Anyone here? Everyone at work?
  17. Cynical me want the Yankees to stay in the race so they can add more payroll, go over the luxury tax threshold and lose their younger talent in a trade.
  18. A 6-3 lefthanded shortstop projected to be #1 pick by many landed on our lap. I wanted pitching but the kid seems to have future in the league. I'd think there's much more talent gap between Marcelo and Trey Ball than their draft positions, #4 vs #7. Ball set a low bar for future #1 Sox picks.
  19. Oh wait, I forgot about the lack of production from our 1B.
  20. So what do I complain about? Kike seems to be filling in nicely leading off. I don't have to see Santana on lineup card as often. Marwin's playing time is limited with Arroyo coming back. Whitlock is being used in higher leverage situations. Josh Taylor got his bad outing out of the way so he can go on another streak. Godfather said to Johnny Fontane...."You're going to act like a man. What's the matter with you?" Garrett the Johnny Fontane Richards has finally quit whining. Sawamura has adjusted to US's Bigger Balls. Japanese are smaller. Duran has been called up. Houck probably will be next. Chris Sale is on track. Life is good.
  21. I always think I'm smarter than sportswriters. I just can't write as well.
  22. I haven't seen anything on Chris Sale's rehab assignments but he maybe back by August 1st assuming no physical set backs. We need to tread water for next couple of weeks, not going deep dive against AL East foes. Our pitching scares me a little.
  23. Per MLB.com, Power Rankings 4) White Sox (7) The White Sox sweeping the season series over the Orioles in the first-half finale was an indication of how this season has gone for them so far -- Chicago has won 26 of 31 games against the four teams with the worst records in the AL: the Orioles, Rangers, Royals and Twins. Against everyone else, they’re 28-30. And the second-half schedule is favorable for the South Siders: they have the fifth-easiest remaining schedule in the AL, behind only the Rays, Tigers, Royals and Astros. We're 32-24 vs +.500 teams. Not sure why we're ranked behind a team with 28-30 vs .500 teams. We're #5. It doesn't make sense. Not a big deal.
  24. I seriously doubt Bloom would give up on Dalbec this soon.
  25. Yep....Hey we could be here talking about last year's team....
