  1. Rays are tied 1-1, which means they'll win in the ninth....
  2. That makes too much sense......really bummed Arroyo got hurt. He'll be that 'tough out' guy in my view. He was a first round pick after all.
  3. Switching topic to 1B We always need to be mindful of what the organization is doing..... They have worked out Cordero at 1B his last couple of weeks in the minors. He is starting today at 1B against the Yankees. Are we waiting on Arroyo to return? Waiting on a trade? Or are we hoping for a miracle with Cordero? He gets hot the second time around? (I see that he struck out his first at bat.)
  4. Cordero starting at 1B today. He needs to get hot right away. We should have training JD at 1B.
  5. I'm not recommending trading away anyone. I'd wait on Sale before trading away any pitchers.
  6. Is Scherzer > E Rod (projected $15M?) + Richards ($10M) + Perez ($6M). Bloom will not pull the trigger without knowing he can extend him. Then the question becomes how much talent do we give up? Will the Nationals be satisfied by quantity versus quality? Sale Scherzer Eovaldi Pivetta Houck
  7. Richards did not cost us anything other than his paycheck. If someone would take the entire amount owed for remainder of season then no harm no foul. Having said that, we'd probably go for the infamous PTBNL.
  8. Dear God Please make them stop!
  9. Luxury Tax...revisited If the goal is to go over by less than $20M, then the penalties maybe insignificant. Penalties $4.0M 20% $6.0M 30% $8.5M 40% If you look at the penalties relative to total luxury tax payroll, than the penalty amounts look insignificant. Even at 40%, $8.5M on $230M payroll is less than 4% of the total. Assuming we're not hurt by nonfinancial penalties associated with going over the limit, than I'm with those not concerned about it. Yes, I've changed my my. Staying below $210M makes no sense. Bigger question is can we make a meaningful addition without giving up the future? I'm definitely opposed to trading player such as Bello.
  10. Who is going to tell Sale not the max out? What you say is very logical. So do you get as many innings as possible in the minors thinking that will lessen his chance of hurting himself if he does 'push' little harder once he gets to the majors? What's the history of pitchers attempting to return and blowing his arm again? Anyone?
  11. You don't ever want to perform unnecessary surgeries. But this TJ issue is certainly alarming. With so much money invested in these guys, I'm more inclined to think when in doubt, go ahead and do the surgery. It seems inevitably the surgery will be needed. Sale could have been ready for spring training had he had the surgery right away. Anyone going to the Portland game today? Can you stream it on your cell phone? Please?
  12. There's no one that will give us the 'push' more than Sale. Today is another big day. Sale is scheduled to pitch in his 3rd rehab start. I do want to point out to the management that Sale is just not any pitcher. If he's healthy enough, he should be getting innings at the major league level. What's the big deal? Our current guys hardly go past 5 innings. It would be waste to pitch Sale in minors much longer. Will he get hurt easier pitching 4 innings in majors as opposed to in the minors? Are we afraid that Sale lacks confidence? That he'll cry if he gets shelled against major league hitting his first time out? I rather watch Sale work on his pitches than Richards. Don't waste his bullets in meaningless games.
  13. I would go to my local bar to watch Sox games. I'd usually spend $25-30, not a lot but can add up. If I did this say 30 times a year, it's approaching $1000. I got smarter and subscribed to MLB.tv. for $125. I did not use to watch other teams but I seem to have more spare time. Best money I've spent.
  14. I coach. I'm blessed with terrific athletes. Their movements are very efficient and effortless. People often correlate that to 'not working hard enough'.
  15. I get excited watching Duran play. Not sure how he will turn out but HE SURE LOOKS LIKE HE BELONGS. I don't see him with his heads down even after striking out. He's got the swag. I also know many of you are down on Rios. But he's a guy Bloom knows well. He has some command issues but who doesn't? From my perspective he's ahead of Workman and Andriese and has tons of upside. Workman as usual, got hammered facing the leadoff hitter in the ninth. Luckily, it was right at someone. Even with 6-1 lead, I was holding my breath.
  16. Duran has better plate discipline than Dalbec and Chavis.
  17. Connor Seabold to start for WooSox tonight.....ramping him up!!!!
  18. A gift from his young wife is what I'm hearing.
  19. It's really too bad that JD can't play 1B. Sign Nelson Cruz as DH.
  20. 1 intriguing prospect trade chip for each team per mlb.com Red Sox: Brayan Bello, RHP (No. 18) Bello's preseason ranking on our Red Sox Top 30 belies the fact that he has emerged as the organization's best healthy pitching prospect while logging a 3.00 ERA with a 76/16 K/BB ratio in 54 innings between High-A and Double-A. Signed for just $28,000 out of the Dominican Republic in 2017, he has a mid-90s fastball and flashes a plus slider and changeup in the mid-80s. No thanks, we'll keep him.
  21. Rick Porcello needs his own thread....Mediocre or Above Average?
  22. They've been getting rest periodically. I think Cora is very mindful of that. But I just don't get why we have to baby these guys above and beyond their off days. It's one thing if they're hurt but another if they're not.
  23. I understand the luxury of using Houck in multiple scenarios but IF he's clearly an upgrade over Richards and Perez, then he needs to be in the starting rotation. Why in the hell would we trade for another starter when we'll have Houck and Sale available? Get help in the bullpen. Get rid of mop up duty guy in Workman and maybe Rios (I think the Sox likes him).
  24. Tanner Houck was outstanding last night. Not getting much air time on his fine outing, overshadowed by Kike's heroics. I sure do love his attitude. Take the ball and fire! No fear in him nor Whitlock. Stretch them both out for next year. We don't need to pay Richards $10M when we have these kids. Sale, Eovaldi, E Rod (?), Pivetta, Houck and Whitlock. We'll still have Barnes, Sawamura, Darwinzon and Taylor in the pen. Perez can be a spot starter and a long reliever. The pen can reconstructed over the winter. There will some young arms ready for 2022.
