I don't get why anyone would opt out of $19.375M contract to earn $15M for 3 years. I would pay JD $26M for two years beginning 2023 assuming he's healthy. I don't get the math on opting out. If I'm JD, I'd roll the dice on becoming an free agent for 2023 season.

I'll add an addendum. We are NOT the only team in MLB that's overworked. Can we just quit being bunch of wussies? It's all part of game. If we have bunch of old positional players that require more frequent rest, well then it's time to get some younger players. If our pen is 'overworked', then bring up fresh arms from the farm. Oh you say we don't have any quality arms in the farm? Then we should have traded for one. Oh but we didn't want to give up prospects to acquire quality pen help, then SHUT THE f*** UP. We are what we are...... I'm happy that we're in the playoff chase. It's time for these men to be professionals that they are. Let's not make excuses for them.

Good point. That's why not one player makes over $10M and they only have two players that have contract for 2022. Pretty amazing.

Richards pitches 5 innings, gives up 4 runs, only 3 earned runs and we do backflips for his stellar performance. Such is the state of Red Sox. I'm not worried as long as Cora is not worried. Who was the poster that told me I was all wet for saying Barnes is regressing?

And then there are the God's of all knowing baseball group, insisting trust Bloom and Cora. THEY WILL KNOW WHEN TO CALL HIM UP. Well the first group HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH DURAN BEING CALLED UP. Bloom and Cora did. Now the so called experts on this Board is laughing at us? Let's take a bit further. If Duran sucks, why are we holding onto those so called TOP PROSPECTS like they are worth something? You can't have it both ways. I'm glad Duran is on our roster. I love watching him play. I do not have Bloom's cell phone number. He promoted Duran. Make sure you don't hurt yourself patting yourself on the back.

We have dumb players and they suffer no consequences for their carelessness. Gonzalez led off the seventh with a walk, then Vázquez singled. But Gonzalez got picked off second base by catcher Reese McGuire. Vázquez, who took second base when Gonzalez got stuck in a rundown, then was thrown out trying to steal third base. Marwin is Cora guy, he does no wrong.

No one is going to care how well we play before the All Star break next year. We know they'll crack. It'll be tough winter trying to sell season tickets.

This goes back to what Moon and I think is needed. You build the staff from top down. Find someone at #1 and the entire staff benefits by dropping down one spot. Now it's still possible and hopefully that role will be filled by Chris Sale at some point. If not 2021, then in 2022 when he's been 'out' for almost two years. Give Yankees credit, they have that pitcher in G Cole. They also have two additional starters that will eventually come off the IL. Sox needs to give Whitlock and Houck every opportunity to become a starter in 2022. With our current financial situation, we probably need to retain E Rod and go with this starting rotation. Yes, we need 6. Sale Eovaldi E Rod Pivetta Houck Whitlock I'm pretty sure someone will be hurt from time to time. AND HOPE THAT WHITLOCK WILL OUTPERFORM EXPECTATIONS. E Rod will be another year away from 2020, Whitlock, Houck and Pivetta all should be improving.

Having two dead contracts really hamstrung Bloom at trade deadline. $16M for Price and $13M for Pedroia. We could have absorbed the entire contracts for better return. He simply had no money to work.

With that you prove my point......sometimes it's better to trade a black chip for two red chips.....not too many "can't miss prospects". Let's examine Devers. Is he a once in a lifetime type player? Would you pay him $30M for 12 years before his free agency? Or is it better to trade him for two established young major leaguer? A starting pitcher and a position player not yet in arbitration?
