  1. Robles 16 pitches (4 outs), Dieckman 28 pitches (2 outs) If it's all about pitch count, I was little surprised we didn't go with Robles to start the 9th inning. I'm sure the pitching coach wanted Dieckman to have a clean inning. I just thought Robles had decent command and the first batter in 9th was right handed (maybe he was a switch hitter). On his second walk, he was ahead in count 1-2 and I thought he got little cute throwing 3 breaking balls to walk the hitter. Then he also had the next hitter 1-2, and even thought the batter looked overmatched, Dieckman again got away from his fastball couple of times. If you allow Dieckman 28 pitches, why not a longer outing for Robles? Do you count the warm up pitches on top? Just asking.
  2. My source if I heard it correctly was Eck during recent appearance by Valdez on NESN telecast. Eck was impressed with his change and added how many in a row he had thrown. Anyone else hear it? Even 12 straight is impressive.
  3. Yes but it's really hard to swallow his two year contract. Ottavino signed for $4M this year. Too bad we didn't pick up that contract, a one year deal. We paid him net $7.875M last year. I think Bloom is waiting for our farm to provide outstanding pitching in near future. Bello is at the top of my list to become a starter in 2023. Our pen will be better when and if 'old' Taylor returns.
  4. I tend to agree with Moon on relievers...hit and miss Gee, all you have to do is look at Barnes...2 year $18.75M is no chump change...how many of these mistakes do you want? He's at best our #5 reliever right now...
  5. Toronto starter goes 8+ innings. We're doing cartwheels for 5 innings. Do Sox pitching coaches have low expectation of our starters? I heard Cora say Whitlock may go 3 or 4 innings. WTF? I'm anxious to see how efficient Whitlock will be Saturday. I'm excited.
  6. I heard he threw 17 straight change ups once.......must have great arm motion to deceive the hitters.
  7. Getting Taylor back healthy and productive would help.
  8. GM IP-(ER) Pitcher 01 5.0-(3) Eovoldi 02 5.2-(4) Pivetta 03 3.1-(3) Houck 04 4.1-(1) Wacha Quality 05 4.1-(3) Hill 06 5.0-(2) Eovaldi Quality 07 2.0-(4) Pivetta 08 5.2-(0) Houck Quality 09 5.0-(0) Wacha Quality 10 4.2-(4) Hill 11 4.1-(1) Eovaldi Quality
  9. Ever since I posted how much I like Kutter's 'stuff', his outings have been very poor. Obviously the top 4 have emerged. They are Whitlock, Robles, Strahm and Diekman. Taylor hopefully will return soon and pith effectively. Davis probably is expendable when Taylor returns, making Davis the fourth left hander. I'm assuming at some point (May 1st?), we'll go back to 26 man roster. I like Valdez better than Brasier right now. Just have not been impressed with Sawamura this year. Just not sure what to think of Barnes. 1st man out...Kutter Crawford 2nd man out...Austin Davis 3rd man out...is it Valdez simply due to option remaining? I like Valdez because he seems to have a rubber arm and can go multiple innings.
  10. Are we getting hurt by long balls so far this year? Even Whitlock gave up a big home run in his first outing. 2 by Hill today.
  11. I'm pretty sure JD is not vaccinated. Anyone confirm? I thought I read that somewhere. My apologies if I'm wrong.
  12. I would say baseball fans are right there.
  13. I'm pretty sure our former president was vaccinated and still tested positive. Your point is?
  14. Sure.....Houck is always welcome at my house. Apparently he's welcome in Sox clubhouse.
  15. So Tanner doesn't pose health risk in US but does in Canada? I love our new science. 2+2 is now 5.
  16. GM IP-(ER) Pitcher 01 5.0-(3) Eovoldi 02 5.2-(4) Pivetta 03 3.1-(3) Houck 04 4.1-(1) Wacha Quality 05 4.1-(3) Hill 06 5.0-(2) Eovaldi Quality 07 2.0-(4) Pivetta 08 5.2-(0) Houck Quality 09 5.0-(0) Wacha Quality How to speed up games? Just watch Wacha pitch. Get the ball back, throw. Similar to Whitlock/Houck. He looks pretty darn good to me. Yeah I know it's the Twinkies. Great command.
  17. Most definitely. Then you won't need a $30M/year starter, not even close. You'll also need couple of guys on strict 'cleaner' roles. Guys that can come in and just pitch to eat innings where games are lost.
  18. Darwinzon Hernandez pitching line: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 0 HBP. WooSox lead 9-0 in the top of the fourth inning. At some point, do you evaluate a pitcher solely on WHIP and not on BB/9innings? Please don't be flippant. Does his ability to strike out hitters factor into his walk ratio? If he's allowed to start a 'clean' inning, does it ultimately matter if it's a base on balls or base hits? Base on balls is just one base. Hits can be multiple bases. Say in 10 innings, I rather have Darwinzon pitch with his strike out ability than say Brasier. Brasier can't pitch out of runner on second with no outs without giving up a run. He almost has to be lucky that hard hit balls goes to a fielder.
  19. Whitlock threw 10 sliders and got 9 called strikes + whiffs. He also hit 97 and had 12.5 mph of separation between his sinker and changeup. He's ridiculously good. per SoxProspects. He's a throwback....keep rowing.....I know he's married but boy he would be a great pick up for my daughter...lol.
  20. In large part it will depend on Paxton's ability to come back and pitch well. I like Eovaldi and I may give him $22M but no more than for 3 years. We finally have Price's $16M coming off and JD's $22M for sure. This will be an exciting winter in my opinion. It should set the tone for next five years, I hope. There should be an attraction playing for Boston with its fanbase. Stadium is full. Team will look to be competitive each year (let's just forget 2020 other than the fact that we got the #4 pick). I'm pretty sure E Rod would rather pitch for the Sox. He took the money and he'll be able to take care of his family very well in exchange for spending 6 months in Detroit for few years. So few fans in such a big stadium.

  22. Question for all you pitching gurus..... How does Whitlock warm up on his game days? Can we assume that Cora/pitching coach lets him know he maybe called? Does his pregame routine differ from say Barnes due to anticipated innings to be pitched? Is he good and warm 'more' than say a traditional closer when he comes in? Or does he warm up like any other pitcher? How do you warm up as a starter that comes in in 5th or 6th or 7th inning to pitch 3 or more innings?
  23. We speak of 'serious' offer but no one knows what that is......I don't care what other shortstops received. If the offered amount is correct, then Sox simply doesn't value Xander as much as many fans do. No freaking way I give Xander $30M for say 6 more years. TV ratings only go down if Sox becomes non competitive. With a payroll of $230M, I doubt we become the Orioles. We'd have the dumbest front office if that's the case. How many of you are going to quit watching the Sox if he goes elsewhere? That's the real question. Are you now going to become a Dodgers fan? I have two options. Watch the Sox or don't watch the Sox. I don't care to watch another baseball team. As long as there's a hope that the team will be competitive, then I'll watch them.
