  1. It depends on the situation, but they won't have him be a backup catcher for any significant amount of time. It would never happen.
  2. Let's just continue to disagree on this. I don't care if Swihart's hitting a .1000 in Pawtucket during "May or June," they'd never make him a "full time DH." They aren't going to call him up in May or June to "catch 2 or 3 times a week," either. He needs to develop right now, and he WILL start somewhere. There are only 4 possible scenarios for Swihart: Injured, traded, starting catcher in Boston, starting catcher in Pawtucket. That's it. They also aren't going to "platoon Benintendi" with anyone, either. If he struggles early on, they'll send him to Pawtucket. You don't ever "platoon" top young prospects for a reason. As of right now, they could struggle to find enough at bats for Young & Holt as it is, and you want to throw Swihart in the outfield mix?
  3. The Red Sox aren't going to impede the development of a young prospect like Blake Swihart to make him a platoon player on the Major League roster. It's shortsighted and it never happens. They've already stated that Swihart will catch everyday in Pawtucket, unless he's forced into catching duties due to injury to Leon/Vasquez. Brock Holt will be the 5th outfielder when it's necessary and I'll be shocked if they don't bring in someone to handle the DH spot fairly regularly. Swihart certainly won't be in the DH mix.
  4. I doubt there would've been any interest in that "reunion" from either Cespedes or the Sox.
  5. So would I. Beltran supposedly likes Boston, but he is obviously familiar with Texas, NY & Houston. He may choose not to come to here. If not, V-mart may be a plan B or C if the price is reasonable.
  6. I think Beltran will get at least 20 x 2, considering who the teams are that are involved.
  7. Beltran is in control of that decision right now and could get ugly
  8. I think that all good baseball executives are able to adapt to the circumstances & Dombrowski seems to be a sharp enough guy to make solid decisions based on what he has to work with. I know you don't like the Kimbrel deal, but it's looking more & more like he may have been ahead of the game when it came to putting a value on premium relievers, especially if the numbers being thrown around for Jansen & Chapman come to fruition.
  9. I can think of two former Seattle Mariners who were "can't miss" before they ever put on the uniform.
  10. Baseball is a mental game. Maybe when Jay Buhner referred to Ackley as a "mental midget," it might explain why Ackley has been a bust as a former #2 overall pick. Andrew Bentinendi has given no indication that he struggles with the mental aspect of baseball.
  11. Nunez has much more value to the Giants in a super utility role & probably gets exposed as an every day 3rd baseman. How much Sandoval's shoulder affected him the last two years is debatable, but I seriously doubt they project Sandoval to repeat his WAR "value" over the last 2 years.
  12. I'm not sure if you've ever seen Benintendi play, but he has one of the purist left handed swings I've seen in the last 25 years. If he's not a "sure thing" at this point, then no one is.
  13. Sandoval going back to SF isn't as ridiculous as you seem to think it is. They currently have a need at 3rd, they are obviously built to compete now and there's a history there. I think that the Sox would have to pick up some of his remaining contract even if Cain is included and probably throw in an A ball prospect with some upside at the minimum, but mentioning Benintendi & Moncada IS laughable. If the Sox decide to move either of those guys (Benintendi isn't going anywhere), then they'll be part of a package for an all star type player in return.
  14. I think they'd absolutely have to include a prospect, but names like Moncada & Bentintendi are laughable.
  15. The Sox aren't going to give up a top prospect to be able to move Sandoval. It doesn't make any sense. They'd release him first.
  16. Bentintendi isn't mentioned in the article.
  17. My point was that the Sox aren't going to give up Benintendi to remove themselves from the Sandoval deal.
  18. That would've ended the conversation very quickly.
  19. I'm pretty sure that if you asked half of the guys from that '13 team who Jose Iglesias is, they'd say, "My wife really enjoys his music."
  20. They still have Iggy's jersey hanging on the wall in the clubhouse and all the players touch it before they head out on the field. It was Dempster's idea. I heard they even made a mannequin of Iglesias and poured champagne on it after they won the series.
  21. You can't put a "stat" on the boost picking up a guy like Peavy gives a team in a playoff race, but based on player reactions, it's not insignificant. Throw in the fact that a lot of Sox pitchers commented on how much they learned from Peavy, and you get a better sense of how much that deal helped that year. As Notin mentioned, it strengthened the rotation as well as the bullpen, so basing a deal strictly on "game logs" is a little short sighted.
  22. Ha! ..2 out of 3 solid vices ain't bad.
  23. As always, you fail to include the fact that the Sox had concerns about his medical reports, concerns about his attitude/focus and concerns about his ability to hit with any kind of power at all. All of these concerns have proved to have merit since he was traded. I have yet to have a conversation with a single Sox fan who has ever uttered the phrase, "Boy, I wish we still had Jose Iglesias," yet you present this trade as if it set the Sox organization back 10 years. This topic has been beat to death. Let it go, man!
  24. If you're Colby Rasmus, why would you ever consider signing with Boston if you're looking for an opportunity to rebuild your value? They have 3 young outfielders who would ideally play 150 games or so each and a 4th outfielder who should be in there against most lefties. Being a part time DH and 5th outfielder doesn't seem like much of an opportunity. If I'm Rasmus, Boston might be the last place I want to play, and I hope the Sox shoot a hell of a lot higher than Rasmus if they look for a lefty to platoon with Young at DH.
  25. I think the cost for Quintana could be higher than the cost for Sale, as it sounds like Quintana is the one guy the White Sox don't want to move. That probably eliminates "reasonable."
